  • Mysterious Ways - U2 and Falling Down - Chapterhouse have different guitar riffs.

  • This should have been on Beavis & Butt-head.

  • This video is the most nineties thing I have ever seen and I love it

  • I STILL listen to this album.

  • shoegaze rocked

  • I hate this song because somebody has to.

  • @birinbirinbirin the term "indie" was used back then to describe bands that were on independent record labels - lots of different styles/genres were considered indie in the 80's and 90's because they were not on a mainstream record label - so i am using the term correctly

  • @filtermadg YES!!! good job a lot of people think its a genre of music now a days. Thanx for realizing this.

  • goin to see them in la!!!!!

  • I never heard them back in the day, so I'm catching up-there's another great song they did called "Precious One", I think...

  • i'm havin a chapterhouse fest tonite and watching all the videos, just love the wah-wah! can't believe i get to see them live again!! bought my ticket today!!

  • hahaha, videos were really crap back in the day tho!

  • Gotta love shoegaze.

  • my bloody valentaineと比べませんが、こんなカッコいいシュゲーザー・バンドがいたことを分かって下さい。復活を願います。

  • So 90s

  • This video makes me LOL in a good way

  • wow ,. it's been a while on this one... sheesh... gotta love them 90's

  • Shoegazers rule!!

  • i love these second tier bands a lot

  • tip top! still one of my faves, the things they made me feel and think can't be matched.

  • Such a great band.

  • where in the hell can i find whirlpool? in good quality?

  • i also thought u2 ripped off this riff....when i heard the song they did i hated them even more.

  • that U2 one is maybe "mysterious ways" in "Achtung Baby ". i love that 'cause it was similar to "Fallin' Down"...no, anyway, those days i was fond of these 'indie dance'-like songs.

  • maybe not their best song, but damn, definitely one of them. I always thought U2 ripped off that guitar riff.. I have a Dedicated sampler with this version on it, plus tracks by Spacemen 3, Cranes and the first recordings of Spiritualized. I love this stuff.

  • you mean "Freefall" EP ver.?...so, i agree with you. that's more fuzzy and garagey. i like that more than this extra-produced "Whirlpool" version.

  • YES

  • Check the holes in the jeans such a huge part of that era mine were naturally worn in while other's cut them i never got into the whole in the bum look though.

  • is ulrich schnauss remixing this song?

  • A great song i wish i heard these bands a lot sooner,I grew up with Ride, MBE, Neds but missed out on bands like Chapterrhouse, slowdive Lush etc ,they probably weren't as popular?

  • he's wearing a different shirt when it goes to just him singing in front of the green screen.

  • "indie didn't evolve until the late 90's and only recently became mainstream in the mid 2000's"

Now I've REALLY heard it all.

  • yeah, I guess the Smiths, JAMC, Wonderstuff were heavy metal..

  • ahhahaahahahahahhahahahahah.....S-BAND-Ohhhhhhh BOy do you need to do some livin'. Is Chapterhouse Indie? I always though their Shoehouse-Gaze with Proto-Sadcore Undertones

  • Oh, yes, *I* need to do some "livin'" :).

Ok, British Indie started in 2001 and you're clever.

  • why this band is so underrated? :(

  • looks like a Derek Jarman video

  • The shoegaze era came after The Factory dissolution, but this song is marvellous, anyway

  • Er, what? Factory was still just about around when shoegazing started. I definitely saw this lot, MBV, Ride and Slowdive before factory folded, and these bands were pretty much the main poster boys for shoegaze back then.

  • factory was at its height when this came out. the mondays were tops and this song in particular clearly shows madchester influence

  • I think I'm the only person in the U.S. who bought this album way back when. I know I bought one album. The cover looked like stained glass. Somehow I still remember it. Perhaps 'cause it's really trippy and influential and cool.

  • remember shaking my hair to this when ihad some back in the day at washington heights in reading golden years

  • oh man, this was when the term indie actually meant something special

  • indie didn't evolve until the late 90's and only recently became mainstream in the mid 2000's.

  • no, learn your history. "indie" came out of the uk indepedent scene in the late 70s and thrived through out till the mid 90s in the uk. you must be 100% yank if you didnt know that. what do you think bands on factory or creation records were called?

  • You truly are an idiot. Indie was coined after many groups started forming garage bands and allying with indipendent labels. Basically, "mom and pop" music labels. Back in the 70's, you couldn't even afford to put together an album. Yank? lol.. keep your gibberish to yourself.

  • seriously, are you retarded? what do you think the smiths were called? what do you think c86 was (i doubt you ever even heard of the term less alone )? it was an "indie" movement. the term "indie" was coined by the uk media and derived from the uk independent charts which started in the late 70s (first number one being the classic "where's captain kirk" by spizzenergi, an "indie" band back then). ive been into indie music for 20+ years, and know it didnt start with the strokes.

  • you are the idiot rickzters. My favourite Indie stuff was late 80's through to about 94. Indie was really coming alive in the early eighties and I felt it peaked in the mid 90's

  • If you could form indipendent, small labels in the 70's as easy as you've described it... large corporate music labels wouldn't exist today. Music has become expensive and completely dominant in controlling artists today. Why do you think so much music is crappy today? Its all about the money. "Indie" was never used before until now. I grew up with new wave, alternative, electronica, you name it... never once did i hear "indie" in my time frame 80-present.

  • in case you didnt know, chapterhouse were in an english band. the term "indie" has been used in england to describe bands since the late 70s.

  • I think I can add my two cents worth as an 'eyewitness' from the mid-1980s. I used to DJ at University, 1987-1990 and our nights were always billed as 'Indie Nights' - so the term was current then. Similarly, I recall the popular UK 'Chart Show' having an 'Indie Chart' every other week. 'Indie' as a term may not have existed in the US until recently, but it has been alive and kicking (as a popularly recognised term) since at least the mid-1980s. Hope this helps.

  • The best thing about the Chart Show and its fantastic Indie Charts was that The Sugarcubes' seminal Birthday single seemed to be at the top of it for just about the whole of 1987. And THAT record was the absolute dogs knackers when it came to delivering the biggest possible contrast to the absolute shite that was in the mainstream charts at that time - absolutely blowing away all preconceptions of what music could be about.

Halcyon days those - I miss them a lot.

  • One more thing, stop reading wikipedia for your info, because I just tracked down everything you said. So maybe YOU should learn the origins rather than relying on information that may or may not be true. Truth is, there has always been broke artists, but the term "indie" was never brought up until now and traced back to the late 70's and 80's... it was never official and "indie" now never existed then. PERIOD.

  • haha seriously, i laughed so hard reading that. you really need to get schooled on this stuff before you spat your fingers.

  • Are you kidding me? I've wasted a handful of seconds reading the shite you've posted here and Yes, even I don't know why I've fucking bother'd mate but it's clear you have no idea what you are on about. In the UK, I would say you can track it back to bands around the raw time of Joy Division, The Sex Pistols and The Clash. In the 1980's, you had two massive indie icons in The Smiths and The Stone Roses. You have no argument here mate and I am sure even you know this. Why make a cunt of yourself?

  • "what do you think bands on factory or creation records were"

    uhm SHOEGAZE maybe?

  • shoegaze was an "indie" movement much like twee and madchester back in that era, tard. and factory didnt have any "shoegazer" bands on their label. fucking moron

  • jeez chill out.. buy some tampax buddy, i was talking about creation

  • there were many other bands on creation prior to the "shoegaze" movement. the c86 movement, another INDIE movement had bands from creation like primal scream, bodines, and yikes, even alan mcgee's own band, biff bang pow.
