Long story, but in their heyday (1980 - 1986) they were the victims of bad managers & horrible record company support. It was one piece of bad luck after another, often due to their record company not having, or just not spending, the money to promote them. They made 5 great records, and after Virgin Records disgracefully let the brilliant Silent Scream album die, Gary was devastated & left the music business. It sucks for us, but I can't blame him a bit. What more could he do?
No problem. Yeah, it was a shame. All their records were really good, particularly the last two, Burning and Silent Scream. For the latter, Gary and Van spent an entire year writing it, and songs like "Somewhere in Your Heart" and "I'm Getting Out" should've been all over the radio. But Virgin Records had other priorities with its money and didn't promote it. I'm surprised the band didn't strangle Richard Branson (Virgin's owner). :-P
