@NDguy191 Well regardless of how he looks, it's Bruce Freakin' Forman and he's one of the best jazz guitarists out there! I don't personally care about what he looks like as long as the sound is there.
Yardbird suite is the only Parker tune that I can really groove to. I know that his faster bop stuff was the music of the era and very pioneering, but this is his masterpiece.
Wow man, this was great! I never heard of these guys before but am glad that I hear them now. That piano is superb. Thanks for the share uploader.:) Oh, the whole band is great! How did I ever miss these guys?
Great film clip...great JAZZZZZ!! Man that painist....dig, dig, dig that pianist!!! Ya Bobby! Then came Bruce...oh my, oh my! That boy ain't shy! The drums and bass are right on and beyond!!! Richie...well, what can one say but...Richie Cole..there is only one...the best!!! What a group! Outstanding jazz! "Well done" to say the least!
@zwalrus1 - Man, hate to be odd-man out; don't know who those "six" were or what they said but; if it was anything along the lines of this not swinging at all then I'm afraid they are dead on.
@zwalrus1 - Man, hate to be odd-man out; don't know who those "six" were or what they said but; if it was anything along the lines of this not swinging at all then I'm afraid they are dead on.
Ahhhh, the great Bobby Enriquez...what a performer! Glad I saw him before he passed on. Danforth Theater in Toronto around 1990 I think. One of the best piano players ever! What got me into him was this very concert which I recorded off the TV back in the day. I saw this guy hammering the keys and invited everyone I knew over and made them watch it.
@jacksecret Yeah! i remember dude...it was on A&E....they also showed Blakey with the Marsalis brothers during that period...funny---now it's just reality TV...sad.
Didn't they call Bobby the Wild Man from Mindanao? I got to see all these guys around the SF scene in the '70s. Scott Morris is another cat that was taken way to young. Listen to those cymbal rides. How could you not burn with that going on behind you? Richie and Bruce... WOW! Great posting, thanx.
Exactly right mb, as I have never seen a pianist that is so innovative about How to use a piano. Amazing stuff that I have never ever heard before. Very happy to see a fellow musician venturing into uncharted waters, so to speak.
I grew up with Bobby E in our hometown of Bacolod City in the Philippines. We would tinker my grandmother's grand piano and that's where he honed his God-given talent. Piano is still in the living room to this day and Bobby's spirit lives on in those ivories. Long live his memories! Archie
ive seen this group live several times and bobby is alway fun to watch. they call him the wild man from mindano.and bruce has always been one of my favorite guitar players.A good freind of mine used to play drums with ritchie and bruce so we got to hang out a few times. They a a couple of great guys and incredable musicians
Second thing...i love of the sound of that guitar player.
thrid.....Richie, his sound is reminisent of charlie parkers. i quite like it. i like the sound he has. and i like parker's sound, and phil woods. My teacher has a mix of a charlie parker and phil woods. with a little of gary foster thrown in. its amazing. but still....richie's sound it amazin.
Obviously richie chose the cream of the crop to be in his band.
Wow! That guitar player has a unique voice! He does not just sound like every other bebop player. I think he has the perfect mix between tradition and personal touch. Of course, all these cats play like no tomorrow, but the guitar player really caught my attention regarding improv.
These players are unbelievable. Let me say this.... one of my favorite players ever. Bobby Enriquez.... the Wild Man on piano will always be my favorite. Listen to this guy!!!!!!!!!
I saw Bobby "Wild Man" Enriquez several times back in the day. This clip doesn't even do him justice. I saw him drive some huge crowds absolutely wild!
Marian McPartland also does this, and she told me Duke Ellington did as well. That position allows the pianist to come closer to facing the audience (and the other players).
wow! I remember looking for video clips of richie cole a few years ago but couldn't find any on here. I borrowed the LP from my high school music teacher when I was 15 years old and played it non stop for months!!! Its great to finally see these fantastic musicians in the flesh. Cheers
yeah! and Richie and Bobby together is like dying and going to heaven! Those two should have married each other, lol! What a divine combination, a music union made in jazz heaven... I sure miss Bobby! He was crazily terrrrrriffic!
