The bows look like they would easily submerge in a big sea. The weight of the aero rig mast seems enormous- contrary to all the principles of light weight sailing in a proa. Why is it that a lot of cruising proas today have such clunky or over powered rigs? A crab claw latteen would be so much lighter and possibly lift the nose up a lot.

The bows are designed to be semi wave piercing so submerging isn't a problem, they have a lot of reserve buoyancy. Crab claws were obviously considered but rejected for many reasons. Sailing at windspeed not enough for you? This is a cruising boat.

The wind varied from about 10 knots in the start of the video to 15 knots at the end. Boat speed was about the same.
