It IS the sort of joke Family Guy used to do. You know, when it was still a good show and not an endless sequence of pop-cultural non sequiturs. Also, recurring characters with development FTW.
I hate to say it but this video perfectly defines why LRR won't be immensely popular. A long dragged out video with a punchline that didn't really deliver. I love you guys! But this one just didn't do it for me...
...You know, I've been thinking about it a lot lately, and this really sums up my feelings about LRR. I really like you guys, and you all deserve any success you get... but you really really REALLY need to learn how to pace your videos better. I know this was barely 3 minutes, but it felt like it was over 5.
Surely that's a good thing though? You're getting two minutes extra free!
Meanderings on this sort of thing *in the middle of a warzone (or whatever)* seems hilarious to me, and I thought this one was much better than the 1st. It just depends on your sense of Humour. I thought the same thing about the Ice Cream factory vid and that won awards.
I guess what I'm saying is that I thought the whole video was a punchline, the spade/spoon was just a way of capping off the absurdity of the situation.
It just seems like it's a type of joke Family Guy would do. "HEY PEOPLE IN THIS SITUATION WOULDNT NORMALLY TALK LIKE THIS, SO WACKY".
Also, no, longer videos are not automatically the best videos. Like I said before, it's all about PACING. If a video goes on for three minutes where nothing happens, it makes people less likely to watch the whole thing. They'll just move on before it's even done.
If I were to suggest anything with this video, it would've worked broken up into another Rapidfire.
I disagree. The Family Guy style (in the derogatory sense) is about beating a dead horse--you could go so far as to call it a 'Rose is a Rose is a Rose' attempt at humour, where going over the same thing again and again is expected to eventually yield different results. While this sketch keeps the same premise throughout (Solid Snake talking to a victim), the comedy doesn't lean on the premise, rather the dialogue itself (commentary on the game, redefinition of war, etc).

Consdering it was done as one long shot pre-desertbus, I think it was fantastic.

I believe the term you are looking for is "comedic irony", and Family Guy is certainly not the first to come up with it.

I'm not saying they were. I'm just saying it's a Family Guy style joke; drawn out and it just keeps getting less funny the longer it goes.

Kane and Crowthorne, rather. Whatever--random mercenaries from a game I've never played.

also, lol at the three people who voted down my comment. "WAHH, SOMEONE'S OFFERING VALID CRITICISM"

It is dragged out with an unsatisfying punch-line. It's not a recurring problem though - they're usually better than this.

I'm guessing Kane and Crowthorne don't have a great track record with Knifey Spoony.

Okay. The folding shovel really capped this one off. And it was nice getting the instant tipoff from The Desert Bus!
...which feed I should probably turn back on now.
Good stuff, guys!
