@whitedime Foam rolling followed by static stretching can be much more effective then either alone. Don't neglect stretching, foam roll is not meant to replace and static stretching especially during 'phase one' workouts actually is (for most people) necessary to help the muscle repair, align/grow properly, and to, most importantly, STAY THAT WAY. Higher phase workouts don't need static stretching but that doesn't mean one never does it again either.
I AM a monkey who humps a football and I take exception to your analogy!! A. that's not what it looks like. 2. get some sun. $. Thanks for the vid, minus the discriminatory and unecessary shot at monkies.
Hi just a quick question when iv been doing foam rolling there has been some arguments about holding postion as if there is knots in the muscle you will relise / flood the knot there for realiseing . also with the lat would it be better to follow the muscle around so instead of staying on the side flowing the muscle fibers around to the attatment . Love fit cast im a english Personal trainer and loveing the knolege i have gained from you cast
I've heard the same thing TS500ER that you shouldn't foam roll before training. I think it was Bill Hartman that said it in an audio I was listening to. So, I think it depends on the source and your goals. I think if your a little achy or not completely warmed up then I don't think you can go wrong with a little rolling before training.
People are saying that you shouldn't do the rolling prior to training. It relaxes you too much and you lose the motivation to train. Do them after training. True / False ?
Thats only a contraindication to an existing medical condition. You could say that for anything eg. "Don't use it on your legs if your leg is broken" or " Dont roll your shoulder with the ball if you have bad tendinitis"
There's no reason not to be doing any of this stuff unless you yourself have a medical defect.
Question...I read that foam rolling is not meant for those in chronic pain..does anyone know why? It seems to me this would be one of the main reasons to use it. I haven't found a reason to the statement..anyone know?
I do all these at the gym. then snicker to myself watching everyone else doing endless static stretches before lifing. EC's the man. I just bought his new book and am seeing results two weeks in. very impressive.
@whitedime Just did a search for Maximum Strength and it's sold out at all the bookstores near me. Gonna go and put in an order tomorrow. Great video, Mr. Cressey. Thanks !

Just stumbled upon this demonstration. Are these stretches done before lifting? Is the thought behind this therapy to aid with muscle soreness?
KDub1961 1 week ago
@KDub1961 See "Self Myofascial Release". In short, yes, this is a component of muscle realignment and repair.

@cljfox Its a lacrosse ball. If that is too hard for you then downgrade to a street hockey ball.

is that a special ball or is it just a tennis ball or something?

got serious heel problems, caused by muscle problems in the calv and under the foot, working with the ball brings pain release fast!
not many doctors or physiotherapist will tell you these exercises, because they would loose many klients :-) !

Great video but be very careful about the foam roller on your spine. A very big no no especially if you have osteoporosis or osteopina

I had read that as well, but I'd also found information on massage therapy being used on clients with fibromyalgia with great success.
I took a chance on a few of my clients who have fibro and it helped their chronic pain a great deal.
