  • I loved how experimental they got during the binaural and riot act sessions, i always thought this song was amazing to meditate too, love it.

  • This song is very atmosphic...close your eyes and you can see this girl and her surroundings very vividly...

  • Long Live Pearl Jam!

  • the full binaural effect is awesome with a nice set of headphones!

  • Binaural...guitar out of the left speaker....Jeff. Outta the right.....Mike. Genius record all the way through. Love MIke's guitar work on this album the most I think.

  • @7double07 You know this is probably Mike's best album now that I think of it.

  • Brilliant track.

  • @buffalorapids Do you seriously believe that???

  • Great song

  • Great song

  • i still hear people say this wasnt a good album...it just cant be!

  • I think it was because of the "sound" of it. Binaural was produced differently from any of their previous albums.

  • yes, you´re right... but i reckon it´s always good to hear different stuff from great bands. they can sound as great as never.

  • This is one of my favorite albums of pearl jams!!!! it sounds amazing...i love the binaural recording sound!!!

  • LOVE OF THE GIRL

this is such a fucking sick opener.

  • pure brilliance

  • this song is about the singer of Alice in Chains Layne staley he was vedders friend and died of an overdose Oh he fills it up with the love of a girl is heroin because heroin is said to be better than a love of a girl

  • stone gossard wrote this

  • yeah stone wrote it about layne, not eddie, eddie did the hidden track on lost dogs.

  • This song is not at all about Layne Staley. The only Pearl Jam song that's about Layne is 4/20/02, which is a hidden track on Lost Dogs.

  • thought that first too, but stone stated that he wrote it about layne in an interview.

The hidden track is writeen by eddie

  • Do you have a link to that interview? I've never read anything that would suggest the song is about Layne. The lyrics of the song don't appear to suggest any connection to Layne at all.

  • Well i read it on wikipedia.(i know it's not the best way), but well it you are right i have to admit.

If you want to check, it's on the german wikipedia site. I think so.

  • the song had other lyrics before this take, stone wrote the music, eddie added the lyrics.

Stone had lyrics to this song before, but eddie didn't like them so he changed them. In fact the instrumental is about layne, not the lyrics

  • No, Stone is credited with the lyrics and music for this song per the Binaural liner notes. I'd like it if you can provide where you're getting your information from, because I've never heard it before.

  • it was written on wikipedia, the german one.

  • Unless the Wikipedia article has a good source to back it up, I wouldn't hold it to be true.

  • If you google search for the article "Pearl Jam's 'Binaural' ear-marked by unusual sound mixing", which features an interview with Stone, Of the Girl is described as "a sweet, simple love song."

  • didnt layne die on '02? why would this song be about him if binaural came out in 2000?

  • This is one of Pearl Jam's most beautiful songs

  • Those Binaural sessions produced some absolute Gems - Of The Girl being one of them, but also Light Years, Nothing as it Seems, Sleight of Hand, Parting Ways and also Fatal & Strangest Tribe, which were released on Lost Dogs. There are many more great songs from those sessions, and there wasn't a bad song on the album. It's arguably Pearl Jam's best.

  • what is this song about?

  • @TheGargantuanSock binaural also had thin air dont forget that

  • This song rocks....not sure why didnt get popular...

  • Beautiful song, I wonder why it is so unknown...For me one of PJ's best songs.

  • it's on the live benoyora hall disc

  • Benroyal Hall. Get it right

  • Thanks for posting!

    Very underrated PJ gem!

  • Man I love this song, thanks for posting, been looking for this for awhile...

Oh half his life a hand me down wasted away

Oh he fills it up with the love of a girl....
