I know so many people who have gotten beautiful, healthy full bred dogs from shelters, mutts too of course. But even expensive little lap dogs end up there, shocking what happens to so many dogs. So many of them need loving homes....great commercial

I died today. You got tired of me and took me to the shelter. They were overcrowded and I drew an unlucky number. I am in a black plastic bag in a landfill now. Some other puppy will get the barely used leash you left. My collar was dirty and too small, but the lady took it off before she sent me to the Rainbow Bridge . Some of these arguments are so silly. If your kid has allergies or you "have" to move to a place that doesn't allow pets, you try yourself to find a good home for the pet you made a commitment to care for. It's not a "thing." People are sadly mistaken if they think that most pets dumped at shelters end up in loving homes (that won't in turn dump them again.) Most end up with a needle in their leg. Putting a kid before a pet doesn't mean you have to basically kill it.
@marcigsd I agree. I had to give my dog to the animal shelter though. And yes, it was because we couldnt her them or we would get kicked out of our house. But we did try to sell her in the paper. Alot of people came and looked at her and stuff but none of them called back. When she was in the shelter her leg got broken. I feel so horrible by leaving her there, but we had no choice.
That is just terrible. How could someone leave family in a shelter and just forget about them so easily? Why would anyone be so heartless. The worse part was how the dog looked so hopeful that they would return...

I have seen so many dogs come into shelters. It is not because the owners had no choice, but they didn't want it or didn't know how much work it was. I remember a lady coming in with two puppies from a petstore. Different breeds. She dropped one off because she said she didn't like him and kept the other. They were both only eight weeks old.
Leaving a animal in a 'shelter' should be the last thing anyone should do! Instead of letting someone else do the work for you, you help the animal find a home. Because once you leave the dog at a 'shelter' there is a good chance it might be put down.
If the family knew the could not afford a pet, why get one? You'll only be hurting that animal. They don't deserve to suffer for our mistakes.
By the way a shelter is a place where you sleep and are fed. This is a POUND.

@verladybug Agreed. I'm 10 too, and I think the same thing. I ALWAYS tell my pets I love them!! All of my cats and my lab, Zack!! I used to have a chihuahua named Paublo, but we had to give him away because of moving.

@mavriksfan11 Very valid point, but whenever I see someone homeless I always yell at my mother to pull over and let me give him some money or buy them food. So yes I try. But being a 12 year old girl, it's not that easy. My mother always tells me, "Odds are they aren't homeless." But yes, I try.

I just had to put my dog to sleep about a month ago, and it was the hardest thing ive ever had to do. Im not quite ready for another one yet, but i will another dog. Dogs are the most precious things ever and all dogs have a place in my heart

I cant stand how people live there dgos or cats in the shelters!! also one big reason is when people breed there pets nd when they have a big litter of puppies or kittens, dey cannot keep them all nd mostly they keep just like one nd if they dont find any one who wants to buy them, dats also another reason why dey dropped them in shelters Very very sad. Some of these arguments are so silly. If your kid has allergies or you "have" to move to a place that doesn't allow pets, you try yourself to find a good home for the pet you made a commitment to care for. It's not a "thing." People are sadly mistaken if they think that most pets dumped at shelters end up in loving homes (that won't in turn dump them again.) Most end up with a needle in their leg. Putting a kid before a pet doesn't mean you have to basically kill it.

@marcigsd I agree. I had to give my dog to the animal shelter though. And yes, it was because we couldnt her them or we would get kicked out of our house. But we did try to sell her in the paper. Alot of people came and looked at her and stuff but none of them called back. When she was in the shelter her leg got broken. I feel so horrible by leaving her there, but we had no choice.

Im not saying that im for animal cruelty but some families cant afford having apet so i say that its way better taking them to a shelter than letting them go knowing they wont get any food or water or love...What do you say Eh? If you lose your job, get a job at a damn McDonalds if you have to. In my eyes, and any animal lovers eyes, it is the same as dropping off a child because you don't want the responsibility anymore. No more excuses, it's time for people to stop breeding irresponsibly and spay & neuter their pets so no more animals have to be euthanized.

What if the person has kids or something? Sorry but if I lost my job and had to get a job at Mcdonalds or something, the money I earned would go to my kids/bills/etc... not my dog. If that ever happened, though, I wouldn't drop my dog off at a shelter... I'd give him to a friend or family member. I agree about the whole spay/neuter thing, but you don't know what other people's lives are like. Shit happens and sadly sometimes the dogs have to go.

@UchihaSasukeRoCkS No, the reason most dogs are in shelters are not because of that. It is because very stupid people buy puppies because they feel like it. I have seen so many dogs come into shelters. It is not because the owners had no choice, but they didn't want it or didn't know how much work it was. I remember a lady coming in with two puppies from a petstore. Different breeds. She dropped one off because she said she didn't like him and kept the other. They were both only eight weeks old.

Leaving a animal in a 'shelter' should be the last thing anyone should do! Instead of letting someone else do the work for you, you help the animal find a home. Because once you leave the dog at a 'shelter' there is a good chance it might be put down.
If the family knew the could not afford a pet, why get one? You'll only be hurting that animal. They don't deserve to suffer for our mistakes.
By the way a shelter is a place where you sleep and are fed. This is a POUND.

Think before you get a pet, they aren't toys. I'm 12 and I visit the dogs at the shelter as much as possible. I spend time with them and I think about the mean people who buy dogs not knowing how to take care of them and send them to these shelters causing them pain and stress. -Viktoria
