thanx man,my 3dmark06 score was ...(14143) then i did the X17.5 and ran the test again and my score was.....(15093) air cooled.....click on my page for my videos and specs
can anyone help me overclock my amd 940 phenom 2 ? im using a asrock a790gxh mobo, i just wanna oc it to something like 3.4 or 3.5ghz, my heatsink is arctic cooling freezer pro 64 and my idl tems are around 39-44C and my load temps (with prime 95) stay at around 49-50C, any help will be greatly appreciated
ok i did it it was easy, i just changed the voltage to 1.4 and then took multiplier to 17.5 and i got an overclock of 3.5ghz and my temps were 52c on load and 47-48 on idle
My HT ref is 205 atm and my multi works fine with x18 , the core voltage is @ 1,45 ...the CPU runs with 3,7 GHZ. If i run a stress test for more than 1 hour my cpu reach MAX 57C with an arctic cooling freezer rev.2. -> mainoard is gigabyte ma790x ud4 :-P hope i could help someone =)
@izidor my ph ii 965 is running at 3.7 aswell and I got exakt same results as you, with an acf rev.2, what case are you using? im buying a haf 912plus soon to get better airflow and space for a noctua Noctua NH-D14, then I might reach 4.0+.
yes. that's all. The ASUS Mainboard takes Voltage and other needet changes automatic. if you know what changes are to do, you can change them even manualy.
Question...I have this CPU. With my case side ON this thing idles prolly 39 C But with the side OFF it gets much lower. I am so scared I bought a smalldesktop fan to blow into it to help even though I have a great fan ( ultra chilltec with interface module) so now it idles at 32 and gets up to 39 when I push it say with Left4Dead. My question is what am I doing wrong? This is stock speed no OC.
yes ofcourse? well if u do't have thyose to bad bec this cpu cooler gives maximum. love it. nothing better MAYBE the Ximatec something with 2fans wich u have to buy as an Optional thing! well 2 bad for u then.
Good choice my friend!! That's what I have and it's the best!!! Im at 3.4ghz myself and I could go higher if I want to, but I don't know about messing with voltage jumps!!
you can change the voltage up to 1,5V. AMD says the highest Vcore is 1,55V. On 1,5V and 50°C you can go until 3,7 Ghz with Aircooling. With Watercooling you can go to 4 Ghz or even Higher. I didn't test it. I go personaly till 3,8 Ghz with Watercooling on 1,4V Vcore.
what ram did you use. i use 8GB 800 Mhz DDR2 Ram. My Voltage is till 3,6Ghz untouched. above i set it on 1,5V. If you use Aircooling make shure, your temp is under 50°C on load to hold it stable.
hey im gonna build a new pc and im curious about the combi of my processor and cpu cooling, i was thinking to use an Asus Silent knight cpu cooler, it runs at 2300 rpm, is this ookay with the phenomII 940 when i overclock it to around 3.3 -3.5 Ghz?
This Cooler is really OK. it might be a little better with an EKL Alpenföhn Groß Clockner Blue Edition. This Cooler has an 120mm Silence Cooler with Blue LEDs and runs @ 800 - 1500 RPM
Lol,it's good that you've made this vid,but i can get 3.4ghz so far on stock voltage, the nb would go up to 2200mhz on stock voltage (1.1750) but then i increased it to 1.2500 which seemed to help the performance, not always give it more voltage if its unstable etc..
hey i have this processor and i oveclock it to 3.4Ghz and i get a temperature of 50C at CPU usage 100% and i'm using a stock cooler, is the temperature ok with it?
How high you think i can go if the only cooling i have in my case are fans. LIke how high can i overclock before it fries. ALso i have an ASUS M4a78 plus motherboard and i was wondering how high do i put the voltage as
if you yuse the original cpu fan, you can put the multiplier up to 17,5. that means 3500mhz.
if you have watercooling, you can on most phenom2 cpu's take the multiplier up to 19 if you change the core voltage to 1,5v. that means 3800mhz. in 3d Mark 06 takes sthe phenom2 x4 940 @ 3800mhz over 5000 points
at the first start it even takes longer to load windows, but then it works really faster. 3500 per core means 14000mhz at all. at 3000 per core its about 12000mhz. 2000mhz difference is really mutch and my pc runs faster after overclocking.
I don't need to change the Voltage on my Board till 3500Mhz. But some Bios Versions don't work so. Use the Latest Bios Update and it could work too on your Board.
It's good to increase Northbridge multiplier too, it makes L3 cache and memory faster.
For example phenom clocked 3600 mhz, but with stock speed northbridge is slower than phenom clocked 3400 mhz, but with increased NB multiplayer to 2.4 ghz
has anyone got to 3.9 stable? what settings? i cant get it passed 3.8..

make it like showed in the Video, or take Asus TurboV to realise OC. it is easy to use

@mattckd with Cooler master hyper 212 +, you can overclock to 3,6-3,7 ghz without having to change voltage

Are you using Asus motherboard M4A78 Plus ??
Are you using aftermarket CPU cooler. ??
pvpatel89 2 years ago
By making this Video I used the ASUS M4a78. Now i'm using the ASUS M4A79 Deluxe.
I'm Using The Boxed Cooler till 3,5Ghz.
3,5Ghz till 3,8Ghz i'm using Watercooling.

What a trip, were using the exact same mobo and cpu

THAT IS ALL>>>>no voltage changes nothing else..???
Is it gonna take everything else auto ??

That's OK. My CPU was under Aircooling @ Idle 45C and gets upü to 59C under GTA4
With Watercooling the Idle is 29C and gets up to 35-38C
torte532 2 years ago
you just download amd overdrive
it is an easy program to use and you can't do overvoltage with your cpu
ThePhenomII 2 years ago 3
That's true. but the way in my video is for advanced use and overdrive is just for beginners.

Im going to have same Amd as u. and going for Cooler Master V8 CPU cooler :) trying to clock that to 3,4ghz and im happy :)
enterZ 2 years ago
If the temperature is lower than 40 degrees C, you can clock it up to 3,6 Ghz with Air Cooling ;-)
torte532 2 years ago
Hey man, with my cooler master V8, I know I could have safe temps if I bump mine up to 3.6ghz, but how much voltage should I increase it to??
damon323 2 years ago
for 3.6 u need 1.425 vcore, for 3.9 1.525. worked for me

xD U will have the same temps like 3ghz, noob :D When u make your vcore higher, cpu will be warmer.
mr7sneip 2 years ago
no, i had 12C idle and 30C load on 3ghz. so no. and the highest ive got is 3,6ghz then i had 53C load and 23C idle. but i want 3,4ghz its enough.

@ 3500 you don't need to change the voltage. only if you want ratings above 3600 you need to change the voltage. but then you need watercooling too.

till 58°C it's ok on 100% usage. because AMD says till 60 °C the CPU don't crash

I have the same bios as you, how come you didnt change the voltage settings?
newjacksm 2 years ago
Under the Multiplier you find Processor Voltage. you can change it to +150mv and your Multiplier to 19 if you have an water cooling system.
torte532 2 years ago
I was getting 42c at idle with 3500mhz and a 100mv volts. I am surprised in this video you didnt change the volts.
newjacksm 2 years ago
I don't need to change the Voltage on my Board till 3500Mhz. But some Bios Versions don't work so. Use the Latest Bios Update and it could work too on your Board.
torte532 2 years ago
hm alright, I have the latest update... ill see.. thanks. The board I have is the Asus M3N78-EM.. The bios looks exactly the same.
newjacksm 2 years ago
It's good to increase Northbridge multiplier too, it makes L3 cache and memory faster.
For example phenom clocked 3600 mhz, but with stock speed northbridge is slower than phenom clocked 3400 mhz, but with increased NB multiplayer to 2.4 ghz
Ixeon659 2 years ago
and probably increasing HT link multiplier will help increase cpu speed

see the frequency and tell me what you think
only with air cooling !

Here are my comp specs, is it really that easy to overclock and would it work and be the same with this mobo.
CPU: AMD 940 BE
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-MA790X
RAM:Corsair 4GB DDR2 1066MHz
GPU: XFX Ati HD 4870 1GB
PSU: Corsair 650TX
Case: Antec 300

If your Bios has any option to change the multiplicator of the CPU and Core Voltage or FSB, it's possible with every mobo
