When people say you should be able to bench press your body weight, they mean to set that as a goal, not that it's your capability... a "test" for fitness IS the ability to bench press your own weight.
Leg presses however are completely different.. I can leg press about 4 times my bodyweight.. (720lbs max on an angled leg press machine) but when it comes to squats, I only do about 185lbs free weight, and 225lbs on a smith machine.
You get a lot of respect for doing this down the gym. I would go lower than this though

When you go to the top, don't straight your legs. This is very bad for you knees (patella). Just bend them at the top a little.

Pretty good, but I would go down a little bit further at least till you are parellel to the ground.

Start light on the bench, get your form right.

dont bench press your body weight if you have just started weights.
you will hurt yourself.
start off really light and add more weight.
