You have to be a Punjabi to REALLY enjoy this song. But do not worry too much - nobody is perfect.

Abdullah Shah aka BULLE SHAH, one of the most popular sufi singers says through this song that he does not no what and who he is. His main aim was to emphasis how useless or overrated religion is. He was a humanitarian who believed only in living life in the most fair way possible. We as human beings need to realize that all religion does is divide people. It is a tool employed by various people to worship the same person in different ways. I hope we can live like that one day. Free of hatred!

Its virtually impossible to explain the true meaning of this song, its extremely philosophical and has a profound meaning. But the main theme is finding your innerself. Baba Bhulleh Shah was a great Sufi Saint and a well known poet of Suffism. He was a respected scholar and considered to be one of the greatest mystic poets of the Sub-continent but he longed for true inner realization. This poetry is again to awaken your innerself and find who you are ? Its basically mysticism

Mullahs commenting on this forum must remember that Bulleh Shah was denounced by the Mullahs of his time. He was not a Pakistani but an Indian as when he was born, there was no Pakistan. Its like calling Advani and MMS as Pakistanis because they were born in whats now modern day Pakistan. Pakistanis can claim only what they have post 1947 as their own.
@infreakystranger my friend no1 says that bulleh shah was a pakistani. no1 in that time was a pakstani, it was either muslim, hindu or sikh. all of us were counted as indians.
It can't really be a copy considering that its the lyrics of the Bulla Shah, as the name comes in the song, so I agree with you that it is sung by two different artists but its not a copy :)
I search this world looking for what I do not know. I search this emptiness looking for what I do not know, yet I do. An exile I long for my home. Where shall I find it? where is this fullness I desire? Where do I ind myself? I pray to the One; My heart tells me look into the eyes of another, look there and find yourself, the sun.
The World searches you looking at what you know It searches the fullness looking at what you know, and yet don't. Oh Human, don't you know? Your Home is everywhere, yet not here. The Emptiness is what you have left. Find Yourself in body, if not there, in the dream, if not there, in the deep sleep, if not there, in the Self shall you find Yourself. The One responds, "Your heart is My seat, look into the eyes of another, look there and find Me, The Everything."
Hidden the heart is a blazing light, starlight. This bone-bag is made from the dust of dead stars, Yet inside it is hidden the Treasure of Treasures, the Rose. We seek the world looking for light, looking for the indescribable, that which we know but do not know. We ride this storm, losing our self in the world, only to find it again in the light. Look into the eyes of another with empathy, there a sun brighter than the stars blazes; look there and find your heart, the sun.
@182popeye He was a non-muslim, he gave up religion to find happiness. I am not making stuff up, you have not done your reading, if you read his poems you'll get a better insight, don't interpret things the way you want it to be.
@prathik728 if he was a non-muslim then y wud he b following his murshid(guru) who was a muslim and taught him the true 'islam'. he just wasnt a typical common sikh murdering muslim of that time -no offence to any1. he worshipped allah but just wasnt amongts the muslims of that time.
@182popeye buddy apparently the statement 'its beautiful.........a kafi by the great sufi pir Bullah Shah...sung by a sikh.......a symbol of indian cultural plurality.......' does not imply Baba Bulleh Shah is a Sikh rather from the statement a person with a sufficient knowledge of english would perceive that
1. Bulleh Shah is a Sufi (which I'm sure in itself implies he's muslim)
Junoon sung the same song which was pretty good. But I love this version, reason is of course orignality in lyrics and the energy and passion that Rabbi has put into it. Awesome and great job done. :)
guru Nanak was nor a Muslim or Hindu, he choose the path of truth, the word Sikh means to learn, and all sikhs are diciples, shouldnt this make alot of sense? i wouldnt call sikhism a religion, more of a learning of the truth, this is my first and only coment, im sorry for people who just want to enjoy the song lol! but i felt like i had to after reading the ignorant coments!
Lyrics who know my secrets Bullaeshah? I am not to be found masjids nor am in rituals nor I am pure amongst impure I am not to be in vedic books nor I in marijuana or alochol nor I am in good or bad I am not in celebration or grief I have no discrimination of clean and dirty I am not either in water earth fire air or ether who knows my mysteries bullaeShah ? I am not an arab nor lahoree nor a Hindu from city of Nagaur I am not a hindu or a Turk or hailing from Peshawar
Lyrics part 2 I donot discriminate any faith I haven't given birth to Adam or havva I haven't kept a special name for myself I meet my own ends I dont recognise anyone else there's no one craftier than him what is my standing bullaeshah? I am not moses nor pharon I am not in awakening nor am in sleep/dreams not either in fire wind or waves neither inertia nor momentum what is my standing bullaeshah?
I hate when people fight with each other. Enjoy the song and beautiful poetry. Bullah Shah, If he was Hindu, Muslim or sikh it doesn't matter. ONly matters is what he preached.....and what message he is giving to world through his POETRY.....so people we been fighting for Centuries on this stupid SHIT.....so come on now Give it up......
I dont get why people have to get into religion for no reason. You should just be content listening to this great song. It has such a deep meaning to it!
to rhythm and ultradestruction. i agree with what u said. in the current state of affiars in the world sufism is the only way to bring people from all walks of live together to ponder over
Easily one of the best songs ever written to this poem. As much as I love Junoon and "Bulleya," Rabbi Shergill's song is extremely musical and great to listen to. Unpretentious and beautiful.
Wonderful song! I was looking for it since last summer in Tenerife Spain. Heard there in a hindi restaurant and fallen in love with it! Thanks to those who put it on the internet!!
Music is universal. It was born out of nothing. All religions accept that. Music was born out of the human desire for communication. It was meant to be enjoyed. So lets shelve this petty bickering and njoy the purity of Bulla Shah's song euologised by Rabbi Shergill. I wonder if any other singer would have done this particular song justice like Rabbi has.
Stop looking at onli one side of the picture n be mature. u were not there in 1947 niether the ppl who have written those histories. every religion and every community has paid for that partition.. if u dont know keep ur mouth shut.
this forum is for music not for ur Fuckin responses
I find it strange when everything boils down to religion, who is better?. This video is the exact opposite of the comments listed here. Looks like nothing can wipe out pettiness. And all the people who do nothing but talk nonsense have time for these petty comments
this is funny.. someone sings a song... and then ppl gooo pointing fingers... hehehe... I find it funny that when sikvi says that, islam is a borrowed religon when possibly his own religon borrows from Hinduism. Im not gonna say anything more abt muslims killing siks... ( who killed the ex prime minister gadhi??) but il say onething... the song is done beautifully but frankly indians are pakistanis are the most egocentric and Unclean ppl on earth
REal UK NEWS :"Extremist Muslims who force vulnerable teenage girls to convert to Islam are being targeted by police, Met chief Sir Ian Blair has revealed. Police are working with universities to clamp down on "aggressive conversions" during which girls are beaten up and forced to abandon university courses.hundreds of mostly Sikh and Hindu girls have been intimidated by Muslim men who take them out on dates before terrorising them until they convert. Sir Ian spoke about the problem."
Those are noble words. I support them. But I am also a realist. A tiger is not going to turn vegetarian. If you know sikh history, you should know that very well.
There is something innately wrong and violent with Islam. Indian history attests to it. IF you deny it than you are really blind~~

@KanjarDaa
This poem is written by the 17th century Punjabi Sufi poet Bulleh Shah(formally 'Abdullah Shah').
Bullha is essentially his pen-name and it doesn't mean "bubble of water".
Bullha ki jana main kaun = o Bulleh, I don't know who I am.

Junoon sung the same song which was pretty good. But I love this version, reason is of course orignality in lyrics and the energy and passion that Rabbi has put into it. Awesome and great job done. :)

GLOB100 is a very uneducated person
guru Nanak was nor a Muslim or Hindu, he choose the path of truth, the word Sikh means to learn, and all sikhs are diciples, shouldnt this make alot of sense? i wouldnt call sikhism a religion, more of a learning of the truth, this is my first and only coment, im sorry for people who just want to enjoy the song lol! but i felt like i had to after reading the ignorant coments!

This song was made to honour the death of his mentor, Bulla Shah, whose Ideals were for and only sikhism, and he showed all the differences

I dont get why people have to get into religion for no reason. You should just be content listening to this great song. It has such a deep meaning to it!

I am an ex-salafi, who has more sufi views now. Sufism is the only thought of Islam that can bring people of all humanity together.
Baba Bullah Shah(Peace Be Upon Him) is the biggest example.

Easily one of the best songs ever written to this poem. As much as I love Junoon and "Bulleya," Rabbi Shergill's song is extremely musical and great to listen to. Unpretentious and beautiful.

I find it strange when everything boils down to religion, who is better?. This video is the exact opposite of the comments listed here. Looks like nothing can wipe out pettiness. And all the people who do nothing but talk nonsense have time for these petty comments

Religion - especially organised religionis bullshit and is root cause for all strife in Humanity today.

this is funny.. someone sings a song... and then ppl gooo pointing fingers...
