I have the Seymour Duncan SM-1 Vintage mini-hum in a telecaster and I couldn't be happier with it. It sounds great in my tele, but it was originally designed to be a replacement for firebird pups.

i think this video made me sure; i'm going to buy a firebird. always found it a lovely guitar but i'm left-handed :) anyway, even played by a lefty it's still a beautiful guitar, but it looks quite different.

i'm playing an Ibanez right now but's it hasn't the sound i'm looking for.

I've been a big fan of the Firebird since I first saw Brian Jones play one with the Stones back in '65 or '66. Then I saw Dave Mason, Johnny Winter, Steven Stills and even Clapton playing Firebirds. That is one cool guitar with mucho mojo.

The Explorer initially was issued in 1958 as the "Futura", but was a failure. It was then reissued as the "Explorer" in 1975. Allen Collins played one. The Firebird on the other hand was first introduced in 1963. Just ask players like Clapton, Johnny Winter, or Steven Stills if the Firebird was a reject. In this video he's playing a Firebird V, what a beautiful guitar. Great tone and playing as well. My dad has a '63 Firebird III reverse body, so I've heard plenty of stories over the years.
