Apocalyptica & Melo-M are both different in their own rights and neither of those are portrayal of 'original' cello music. Just because you like listening to one does not grant it to be better than the other by default, let alone representing a musical genre as it's example.

Technically it's not a mullet. That's just long hair. The middle cellist has a mullet. A mullet has to have haoir which drapes down over the forehead. The beat-boxer hasn't any, so it's just long hair. Regardless though, quite entertaining, but not their best like the final countdown.

you guys should listen to Benwhoski, as a viola player, i can tell you for a fact that the style you see Melo-M performing is pretty much a representation of what cellist are as a person when they play, the out-going over the top style suits them quite perfectly

They are just a copy of APOCALyPTiCA, but they are not that good. Look for apocalyptica and you'll see what play cello minds...

The only thing they have in common with Apocalyptica is covers of modern music on classical string instruments. Beyond that, their style is completely different. Apocalyptica focuses almost entirely on metal. Melo-M spans various music genres and are more pop. Apocalyptica, may be the first fairly well-known group to do a lot of covers of rock songs on cellos, but they're certainly not the first to have the idea.

It's not just on the instruments they copy. The style while performing, shaking the heads... The only difference is the genre they play. I just think that they could play the some instruments, but creating their own style...

Er... many musicians shake their heads when playing. That argument just doesn't fly for me. I'm not saying they weren't influenced by Apocalyptica. It's very likely they were. But, I think considering they play a completely different genre, calling them a copy is stretching. I just see these guys as a fun pop cello cover band. *shrug*

That is not all that unique. I've been playing the cello for nearly 20 years now, and I can tell you that like any musician, cellists tend to move to the music in a way that is appropriate to that style. Obviously, you don't headbang to the Brandenburg Concertos (though I suppose you could...), but if you're playing rock covers then it tends to happen.

What makes Apocalyptica unique is doing metal covers, and original metal songs on classical string instruments. Not head-bobbing.

I love long argument chains! Even though this was posted....2 weeks ago, I must say, I looked at Apocalyptica and they're totally different. It's two different styles of playing and music. As Benwhoski said, the only similarity is the modern music on a classical string instrument. AND LEARN TO TYPE MRC!

I never said it was the same music style, i said that the way they play, the way they stand on stage, the way they behave while playing, THAT's what they're copying. Usually that's not the way a cello player performs, but for years its been the way apocalyptica perform... About typing, my mother language its not english...
