this is awesome.. to bad i wasn't born back then so many good musicians, now all my generation has is people screaming words in a mic.. long liive real music!
I missed him this summer he was in N.J.But a very good friend of mine seen him!!! She was the one who turned him on to me.I can't listen to him without thinking of her.And I can remember the smell of smoke and Peter blasting and her brother playing the drums to him what a GREAT Teenage I had when it came to music!!! This is for you Michelle!!! love Barb...
when i started to grow my hair out, it got long and wavy like frampton's, so soon my dad started calling me frampton. now, i wish i had a talk box so i could be aweesome like frampton (though i am a bass player, and we dont use talk boxes)
The good days in music. Pour out some liquor cuz they aint coming back. At least we have youtube to give us real music, new artists these days sure aren't doing it.
He was singing about his spirit guides when he sang "...there's a ringing in my ears, and no one to relate to ..." Yeah, Peter was so cute back then. What happened? I guess the same thing that happend to Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel...they got old(er).
SEEN HIM AT COLLAGE IN NEW JERSEY- SAID WHAT DO YOU WANT TO HEAR ! ?? SHOW ME THE WAY !! WHAT DID YOU SAY !?? SPOT LIGHT HIT'S ME ! SHOW ME THE WAY ! THEN BANG ! HE PLAYED IT ! THAT NIGHT IN 1975 . THANKS , THERE'S NOT MUCH FRAMPTON LIVE VIDEOS FROM THE MID-70'S AROUND., GOT TO SEE HIM TWICE IN THE 70'S IN HAWAII AT THE HIC (HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL CENTER) HE WAS ROCKIN LONG HAIR AND ALL, WHAT A GREAT TIME THE SEVENTIES WAS FOR ME. STILL ROCKIN AT 54
gtrrobster: PF DID get forgotten in the 80s thank Ch---! Did you HEAR the sucky music in the 80's ?(i wouldn't want him to be part of that!) - we really didn't have a lot to go on...so thankfully there were awesome memories and recordings to still listen to and barely a 'handful' of decent artists (U2 etc.) in the 80's to get us by until things picked up again....
Would have been great to have been there at the original concert the 'Comes Alive' album was recorded from. He was definately part of of the fabric of rock, and the experimental guitar sound over the years - sharing the voicebox honours with Joe Walsh (who originally used the technique if i recall, but his use and Framptom's differ enough to make each notable for their different demos of it's use). So easy to recreate these days, but easy to forget how revolutionary it was in the day :)
@goforitrandy I wish you weren't so stereotypical. I am 14 and love Frampton and pretty much from the 50s through 80s... It just goes to show that just because I wasn't alive for it I a can still enjoy good music just like you old-timers :)
Frampton lives in Cincinnati and I see him all the time. He is a genuinely nice guy and signed my original album of Frampton Comes Alive for me. Now that's worth something. Great artist and great guy.
Frampton was the man back in 1976... this brings back memories... Saw him in concert in 1980 it was great. He is a real musician unlike the stars of today who have little to no talent. Peter could rock out on guitar and sing and write great songs which is very rare today. He is an icon that younger people have no clue about or care about ...
@a588956 you mean the talk box solo? Yea it's called a talk box, a lot of guitarists use them. Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi used it for Livin On a Prayer, Slash uses it during live performances, and several others

Ive seen him in the 80's 90's and in 2004.He is the most down to earth guys ever.I remember a kid was in the aisle by the stage and was gonna take a pic.A security guard hurried over and grabbed the kid.Peter said,in his words"Get the fuck off of him, this is my show!"He then stopped the show jumped down and took a pic with the kid!! I will never forget that and im sure that kid wont either.
My first rock concert was in July 1979, in Little Rock, Arkansas and this wonderful musician is whom I had the the pleasure of seeing perform. Wonderful and I still have the ticket stubb, He's an idol from the 70's, what wonderful times.
I was 16 and played this song in a band competition,I was guitarist and vocalist, (Frampton-wannabe) and we came 2nd. Drummer went pro and did lots of records, rest of us sucking on this memory of the great year of 76..
I was a pretty big fan of him up till 76 and was only 15 at this time, but had two of his earlier studio albums and never in a million years did I think he would end up as big as he got from this tour and album!
What a year for Peter Frampton in 1976. His live double album was the #1 best-selling album of the year. And he also sold out huge stadiums across the US during his concerts. I wish I was there to see him live during that year when he was the biggest rock superstar in the world.
Left school in 76...hot summer...people were so much kinder then....did I imagine it? Love this theme song from MY era...hope all my 76 people are still the same as me...Great times and music...peace!!
@kezzer2 a fellow graduate from 76 and what a gen and what a year! so peace to thee friend! all is good and allright thanks to God and music like this!
I saw Frampton on that tour when he was to TULSA city in 1976, from which the multi-platinum "Frampton Comes Alive" album . My name is José Rivas, from Venezuela.
How does it matter who is better than who? What does it matter who belong to what league? Music is not a Tyson-Holyfied boxing match. Music is what touches that heart. It is all above inner feelings and emotions. If someone has to pigeon-hole music, he obviously obviously does not understand music in which case it is pointless to argue with him. Music is the best thing that happened to the human race.
You can't really compare the two they are different styles of music so therefore you cant compare them but phrasing wise you can compare them and they both have unique styles i say none of them are better they are equal
Well...I'm not implying that music is a competitive endeavor like tennis or football, but as far as Frampton not being in the same league as Hendrix, I don't know about that statement. Frampton's solos are more complex by way of phrasing and creative melodic lines. Hendrix was more of a free spirit in his approach which fueled his creativity, but he was not as "musical" as Frampton......just my opinion. Listen to Lines On My Face (live) from" Frampton Comes Alive"....wicked solo on that song!
Well said...yes, Hendrix was definitely a free spirit and eventually became quite frustrated with the straight jacket that his group became for him musically. Unfortunately, he died way too young so we'll never know how great he could have become. I saw Frampton on that tour from which the multi-platinum "Frampton Comes Alive" album was recorded and remember saying to myself that he is going to be big. I also saw Hendrix live twice and only Jeff Beck has come close to matching him in my view.
@classicrockdrumming: Interesting...I haven't listened to Chicago in so long I can't recall his style/talent (admittedly, as a teenager in the late 60's I was drawn mostly to the UK groups)...checking Wiki, it seems I should listen to the songs "Introduction" and "Free Form Guitar". Thanks for mentioning this. I'll check it out.
@dloberk Hi yes take a look at his stuff, take a look at his stuff, to bad he passed away 30 yrs ago. You can go to my site and have a look at my favorites,i have a few on there . I also have some vids of myself that i posted. Have a good day.
The man who orchestrated Peter's success and the live album was his first manager the legendary Dee Anthony. He passed away this weekend at his home in CT of pneumonia.
I've read that he wrote "Baby I Love Your Way" and "Show Me The Way" on the beach by the ocean in about 15-20 minutes and has tried to relive that day every day since. All I can say is that he certainly captured something that day that was excellent. I last saw him in 1986 on the Premonition Tour when he was opening for Stevie Nicks. Tony Levin was on bass. He was on his game for sure. Thankfully he's still making music and we can enjoy his enormous talent.
From what ive seen anna, he always used/uses a Fender when playing this song. As of late he still seems to do so. Saw him in Sept '08 he used a Telecaster.
From what ive always seen/heard anna, he always used/uses a Fender when playing this song. As of late he still seems to do so. Saw him in Sept '08 he used a Telecaster. Side note...GO SEE HIM LIVE if you get a chance.
You know how the VMGA or WMG or what ever it is takes away the audio because your "stealing" music..How do I get approval so that this great video can be lived and heard for ever?
Sorry I haven't a clue about that cos I don't upload vids myself, but I REALLY hope the audio doesn't get taken off this! (Of course I can still GAZE at Peter endlessly as usual, but it's not the same without the music too!) So I hope you find out, and in the meantime THANK YOU for giving me hours (and hours...and hours lol) of viewing pleasure area 223!
I remember being around 10 when this song came out. I loved the whole album Frampton comes alive! Then in 86 Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi used the same concept on the slippery when wet album.
no worries, theres isnt gonna be any more come out that u will miss, and every1 back then had to wait for it to slowly be released... u got it all now lol
memories of 1976. I lost my virginity, smoked weed fot the first time, and studied in Europe, all in 1976. A BANNER YEAR!!!!!!! and, of course, frampton, a genius in my view.
The most stunning finnish girl I have ever met in my life, told me this was her fav song, She already had a Irish boyfriend at the time but this song always gets me .
Hey now. You don't have any room to complain. I wasn't born until '92. Look at all the crap I get stuck with. Although I guess you had to live through grunge... That sucks...
Now who invented Auto-Tunes? Without Frampton -- there would be Looney Tunes....You hear that T-Pain!!!

What a year for Peter Frampton in 1976. His live double album was the #1 best-selling album of the year. And he also sold out huge stadiums across the US during his concerts. I wish I was there to see him live during that year when he was the biggest rock superstar in the world.

Best guitarist ever. Better than Hendrix.
DontCropDustMe 2 years ago
He could play very tasteful leads reminiscent of Stevie Winwood or George Harrison, but he is not in the class of Jimi Hendrix, sorry.
dloberk 2 years ago
Well...I'm not implying that music is a competitive endeavor like tennis or football, but as far as Frampton not being in the same league as Hendrix, I don't know about that statement. Frampton's solos are more complex by way of phrasing and creative melodic lines. Hendrix was more of a free spirit in his approach which fueled his creativity, but he was not as "musical" as Frampton......just my opinion. Listen to Lines On My Face (live) from" Frampton Comes Alive"....wicked solo on that song!
tinian33 2 years ago
Well said...yes, Hendrix was definitely a free spirit and eventually became quite frustrated with the straight jacket that his group became for him musically. Unfortunately, he died way too young so we'll never know how great he could have become. I saw Frampton on that tour from which the multi-platinum "Frampton Comes Alive" album was recorded and remember saying to myself that he is going to be big. I also saw Hendrix live twice and only Jeff Beck has come close to matching him in my view.

@dloberk too bad there is no mention of the greatest TERRY KATH, and or those who don't know this, Hendrix told Kath that you are better than me.

You know how the VMGA or WMG or what ever it is takes away the audio because your "stealing" music..How do I get approval so that this great video can be lived and heard for ever?
area223 2 years ago 2
Sorry I haven't a clue about that cos I don't upload vids myself, but I REALLY hope the audio doesn't get taken off this! (Of course I can still GAZE at Peter endlessly as usual, but it's not the same without the music too!) So I hope you find out, and in the meantime THANK YOU for giving me hours (and hours...and hours lol) of viewing pleasure area 223!

@area223 Worry not. This is not owned by WMG. The album is an A&M Records release. Currently owned by Universal Music.

I remember being around 10 when this song came out. I loved the whole album Frampton comes alive! Then in 86 Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi used the same concept on the slippery when wet album.

Just about any classic rock band is magical. It sucks I was born about 20 years too late. ('93) I should have been born in the classic rock era.

Hey now. You don't have any room to complain. I wasn't born until '92. Look at all the crap I get stuck with. Although I guess you had to live through grunge... That sucks...
