I don´t care if the original was in 1999 was fun to see the future with the eyes of the seventies, you can leave the title the same because its in a "parallel universe", the new special effects looks good.
after we remake this how about we rewrite classic books, repaint classic art and add CGI to our eye lids to make everything look better... This series was great the fist time! Leave it alone!
What I think would be most fascianting is to take a year 2 episode and re-score it with year one music. opening credits and all. Just use the year one opening from the first four episodes, and where you see the moon with the sun in the background, and the "Also starring Barry Morse", just replace that with "Also Starring Catherine Schell". and it would be wonderful to re-score an entire episode with year one backgroun music. something tells me it would come off much better.
It would be nice to see a new version of the series hopefully this will be put onto DVD soon with the enhanced special effects. I have to admit though I prefer the first season to the second which I felt was getting a little too cartoony in so-called new approach.
I always said they should have set it in 2099 instead of 1999;the technology was way too advanced for the end of the 20th century and after a nuclear war also. 1999 is far catchier than 2099 though. Still love the first season though but the second one sucks big time.
I haven't seen the 2nd season since it was first broadcast. Looking back on that season now it's fairly desperate. The first season could be slow-going and a bit conceptual at times, so I could understand the change in approach later. Stil the casting was good, the effects, sets and production design were impressive in the first season: definitely superior to many actual films. Landau, Baines and Morse were all seasoned pros and talented and obviously already established US TV stars.
Does anyone else see this as a demonstration of how we've backpedaled on our future? We JUST STOPPED investing in our own future, and now we're trying to put a bright coat of paint over yesterday's memories because THAT'S ALL WE HAVE!
@cpuwrite I hear you. I used to watch Kubrick's vision of Arthur C. Clarke's 2001 & wonder why we didn't have a humongous space station orbiting Earth, like a small space city. The ISS is a start, but we could've had a lot more. The ISS is more of an outpost than a colony I remember a quote : " The future isn't what it used to be ".
Hell, w / I was 13 or 14, I used to imagine we'd have Mars & the moons of Jupiter settled by now, or at the very least w / outposts there.
As a fan of the original show I normally hate it when someone decides to tweak visual effects (Star Wars- A New Hope and the awful added Jabba scene anyone...?) but this looks great.
Fond memories of watching 'Tiswas' on saturday mornings (LWT) with Sally James introducing next episode of Space 1999. Epic telly!
One of the big strength of the old anderson series was the the effects at the time - amazing what great models they build - ( and blew up ) - they still looks better and way more realistic than any CGI effects - i still prefere the old original - !!! that said, they should try make a new series with Thunderbirds and Stingray and Captain scarlet in one - that would be fun : )
This is real funny to me because I actually made a song called "2099" which is about time travel inspired by H.G. Wells's "The Time Machine". I have it on here if anybod would like to listen.
@ScrutinizerReport2 - Thank you! I did the arrangement for Eric. One of these days I have to go back and re-visit the arrangement and mix and orchestration, because I think I can do it even better, but I'm fairly pleased with the result.
Speaking as just one of the many who were 'blown away' by the first airing of 'Breakaway' in early September 1975, but really 'hacked-off' by the disappointing series 2 a year later, any attempt to enhance the original 'Series 1' is welcome and this looks great, but hey(!), don't go messing with Barry Gray's original score for the series -that IS sacrosanct!
(Part2) The central computer runs a pirate copie of Windows 3999 because the original product crashes everyday! Women are not allowed to make love because of the new rules of Moon Base Alfa! Everybody works with the PlayStation 3999 conected to the L.C.D. head!
(Part 1) Nice video! And in the the end we could have the New Space 3999! Men without hands and with a computer L.C.D. monitor in the head! The Moon Base Alfa would be a special central computer with artificial intelligence. The brain of Mr. Bill Gates will be the new god for Mankind and it's in a big glass of alcool, and still alive!
Wolfspace, you are a genius. You breathe new life into a sci fi series I absolutely loved as a teeenager. I hope something comes of all your efforts and the prospects of space 2099 coming to something is exciting!

This is the best Trailer of "ALPHA" I've ever seen.
Much greetings to the "old" crew from the original series of the past.
I still love all of you !
Special greetings to Zienia Merton + Martin Bowers.
And of cause... Martin Landau
Tony Anholt / Tony Verdeschi - R.I.P.
You was the best one on Alpha !
I hope you got a fine place in heaven...
I was very sad, when I did hear that you died, big brother ...

The first season of Space:1999 has been remastered and broadcast in HD in the UK and will be released on Blu-Ray in both the UK and the US!

I like how the "breakaway" was changed into a big space warp forming. Made a bit more sense than a Newtonian reaction blowing the moon out of orbit.

The newly created special effects look crappy and amateurish.
