I'm losing my hearing. I'm 16 and am almost competely deaf. I know ASL and hang in a hearing community. I didn't learn to GLOS untill just recently and am having trouble living this life. I want to be competely deaf or competely hearing. Why do I have to be both? My speech is wrong and people dont know how hard it is. You made it esier to live. Thanks you.

I go to a hearin school with a deaff program but people make fun of be cause i talk to loud or im pretty out there. Hearin people dont know what we go through to try to fit in. @BloodCandi - suggestion- NEVER use the term deaf and dumb in the same sentence. Just because someone is deaf does not impact their cognitive abilities. Using those words together could really insult many people. There are many Deaf (there is a difference between deaf and Deaf) people that have their masters degree and Ph.D. I just don't want you to use that term infront of the wrong person and get chewed out for it.

When I saw the true life episode you came out in this morning I got teary eyed, you are such a great role model and inspiration to others, you went through a lot and put your life out there for others to see and learn more about the life of someone who is deaf. @njskater17 Deaf Culture is amazing I love it. . . . . . If anyone is arrogant enough that Deaf people can't live on their own they should be shot. The only issue is that you can't hear something that you don't really need for enjoying life. Even though you can't hear a sound you can still feel it.

i was recently in a relationship with someon who was hard of hearing (HoH), and i was happier with him than i was with any other guy i've ever been with. we didn't work out because of other reasons, but we are still GREAT friends, and he's even helping me learn ASL :)

hi, I am of hearing, and I sign both SEE and ASL, and I personally don't see why a lot of people are judging him, it's his decisions, and if feels comfortable with hearing then, shouldn't he be supported? not criticized. And also what's with all the segregating of, "the hearing people" and such. We're all people, period. Regardless of what we're capable and incapable of doing.
@leJiNX Deaf themselves will do segregating too. I am Deaf but they label me Hard of Hearing because I can speak. And they have the nerve to accuse hearing people of audism, yet, they do it amomg their own selves.
THEY will never admit that they practice audism too [see wikipedia for more info].
@MrBobsrevenge Deaf Culture is a big part of him, you can't get rid of it just like that. It's like taking you to China, and you still speaking English, It's part of you. And it takes alot of adjusting
@MrBobsrevenge Not only is the other poster right--it's a big part of him, but he can't hear perfectly. It takes YEARS of practice to use a CI (cochlear implant) properly to its fullest extent. It doesn't turn you into a hearing person. No matter what, you are STILL deaf, and it STILL takes a LOT of work to use a CI. If he uses ASL, it helps to catch something you miss in a conversation or a class or whatever with a CI.

@natty4ever THIS. Also, I'm happy Chris could wait to make the choice on his own, however he was mainstream schooled, which means he was constantly surrounded by people he couldn't communicate with. My parents both went to Deaf institutes and had families who supported them. CI's don't work as well for older people, as the speech/auditory processing centers of the brain start to degrade as early as 7 in Deaf children and he will never be a 'hearing' person. ASL is still his first language.
I am not buy it ... MTV pay you for that as foolish yourself. they make money from anyone who want to be hearing ... they dont care about deaf culture and support deaf community and lost their interpreter profit or improve for deaf community . That is gross to me . I am sorry what i am saying that way. DEAF PoWeR!!

so im just wondering how the speaking is going and if you still use your implant or dont talk and just do asl like you did when you were 7 and i recently was talking to my doctor about getting an implant....i do wonder what hearing is like. KEEP ROCKING ON YOU ATE MY INSPERATION god bless francesca

When I saw the true life episode you came out in this morning I got teary eyed, you are such a great role model and inspiration to others, you went through a lot and put your life out there for others to see and learn more about the life of someone who is deaf. And you were so brave to get the implant and I was so happy for you when everything went great for you after the surgery. I wish you the best and God Bless you!

i believe us the deaf people have our own choice to use hearing aid or other choices to wear... but i dont like doctor or parents of deaf children force them to wear it but let them get little older and decide themself smile ya all

@njskater17 Deaf Culture is amazing I love it. . . . . . If anyone is arrogant enough that Deaf people can't live on their own they should be shot. The only issue is that you can't hear something that you don't really need for enjoying life. Even though you can't hear a sound you can still feel it.

i was recently in a relationship with someon who was hard of hearing (HoH), and i was happier with him than i was with any other guy i've ever been with. we didn't work out because of other reasons, but we are still GREAT friends, and he's even helping me learn ASL :)
chris, you are gorgeous! and whether you have the implant or not, you'e still the same chris, so people need to stop judging. its ridiculous.

Hey, i jus watched the True Life "im deaf" yeasterday in my ASL class... I was so surprised that that deaf people go threw that everyday. thank you for doing that show you really inspired my class and i to learn more about sign laguage... THANKS! :D jaime(:

hi, I am of hearing, and I sign both SEE and ASL, and I personally don't see why a lot of people are judging him, it's his decisions, and if feels comfortable with hearing then, shouldn't he be supported? not criticized. And also what's with all the segregating of, "the hearing people" and such. We're all people, period. Regardless of what we're capable and incapable of doing.

@leJiNX Deaf themselves will do segregating too. I am Deaf but they label me Hard of Hearing because I can speak. And they have the nerve to accuse hearing people of audism, yet, they do it amomg their own selves.
THEY will never admit that they practice audism too [see wikipedia for more info].

@MrBobsrevenge Deaf Culture is a big part of him, you can't get rid of it just like that. It's like taking you to China, and you still speaking English, It's part of you. And it takes alot of adjusting

@MrBobsrevenge Not only is the other poster right--it's a big part of him, but he can't hear perfectly. It takes YEARS of practice to use a CI (cochlear implant) properly to its fullest extent. It doesn't turn you into a hearing person. No matter what, you are STILL deaf, and it STILL takes a LOT of work to use a CI. If he uses ASL, it helps to catch something you miss in a conversation or a class or whatever with a CI.

@natty4ever THIS. Also, I'm happy Chris could wait to make the choice on his own, however he was mainstream schooled, which means he was constantly surrounded by people he couldn't communicate with. My parents both went to Deaf institutes and had families who supported them. CI's don't work as well for older people, as the speech/auditory processing centers of the brain start to degrade as early as 7 in Deaf children and he will never be a 'hearing' person. ASL is still his first language.

I am not buy it ... MTV pay you for that as foolish yourself. they make money from anyone who want to be hearing ... they dont care about deaf culture and support deaf community and lost their interpreter profit or improve for deaf community . That is gross to me . I am sorry what i am saying that way. DEAF PoWeR!!
