  • Love how Mary winked. Tom Snyder had a great show for sure....awesome interviewer.

  • Agnes was good at what she did. Time went on to really prove that.

  • With "AW" & "DOOL" expanding to an hour long format, "The Doctors" which aired between the two shows suffered a ratings drop and never recovered. In the space of just three years, the show went from fourth to eleventh place.....

Meanwhile over at ABC, "GH" (which begun the same day as "The Doctors") was also going through serious ratings issues. ABC chose a different tack to solve the problem by expanding the show (first to 45 mins then a full hour)....

The rest as they say is history.......

  • An intelligent discussion about the genre. Hard to come by in any era. An almost total media shutout is partially responsible for the decline and cancellations.

  • You know, I didn't think that this show was going to be interesting. But I like it!

  • They didn't mention it here, but ATWT and EON were still broadcasting live (the two last shows to make the transition), which they would continue to do through the end of 1975.

  • IMO, I Think The Doctors expanding to 1 hour might have kept the show at 2pm between DAYS and AW and MAY have kept the show running for many many years longer than it did. I think beyond the collapse of medical series at the end of the 70s, most of The Doctors' troubles lied in its remaining a 30 minute show, thus easier to move here and there about the schedule and thus, a victim of NBC's timeslot changes at the end of the 70s and early 80s.

  • Tom Snyder WAS so good at what he did.

I really mis him and his interviewing style.

  • The soaps were better in those days. They made you feel like you were looking in on the lives of friends.

  • What a treasure to see these people who were all so great at their chosen professions. Mary was my mentor & friend..and her influence is with me every day of my life. Thanks for posting this!
