There appears to be confusion among many between the names Vilayat Khan, the sitariya and Vilayat Hussain Khan, the classical singer. Those were certainly distinct and two great musicians.
Can anyone please please tell me what is a Imdadkhani Mizrab??Please I am just a learner so I would be indebted to that person who would tell this to me that what is the basic difference between nornal Mizrab and Imdadkhani Mizrab..Where can I get this Imdadkhani Mizrab, please I want to buy it.
It is not the Mizrab but the bol that Ustadji is able to generate from the same mizrab. In this short clip he also demonstrates what that bol is and how he hits the mizrab to achieve the bol.
But this is all theory, reproducing it is totally different.
Ye Mizrab, ye sitar, sab asli cheez hai. Sunte raho bazate raho. Itawah shri, do you have a slightly longer recording - Mizrab Drar Ustad Shahid parvez ke alawa kaun nikal sakta hai.
yes, you guessed it right, he is demonstraiting a technique by Imdad Khan, his great grand father. The technicalities are mentioned below in the comments.
This gat uses the D-R-R bol(D=Da R=Ra) of Ustad Imdad Khan and is super-difficult.
The tempo is super-fast, yet the Clarity and Weight of the strokes and the balance of Da and Ra are out-of-this-world...
This is a tremendous composition of Ustad Enayat Khan, father of Ustad Vilayat Khan, being presented at an workshop by non other than Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan, Ustad Imdad Khan's great-grandson.

This gat is found on a 78 recording of Inayat Khan. It goes something like:
P dd nn d P M P g- M P --- g M g r S , S MMggMM g-gr-S, PP MM P g -g M
d n S' R'R' g'g' R'R' n, g'-g' r' S' n-n D P.... (approximately)!!
I remember listening to it on a slowed down dictaphone about 25 years ago.

Just to add to the confusion... Ustad Haji Vilayat Hussain Khan Sahib was the founder of the farukhabad gharana.

It is a special technique that Ustad Imdad Khan used. There is no special mizrab.

This is an excellent video. I would love to know what he is saying. I presume it's about his great-grandfather's technique. Anyone care to translate?

There is a video recording on Google video of Ustad Vilayat Hussain Khansahab playing this very same bandish.
Thank you very much, EtawahSitari. Very nice clip, interesting to see Shahid-Sahab speaking and lecturing!

WAH WAH!! excellent! Shahid Parvez is a genius! D_-R-R must be so hard to stroke, but a genius like Shahidji would find it easy to do so! WAH!
