  • Where did you find this backing track?

  • @TheGuitarMartin, on Standing in the Shadows of Motown Book and CD

  • Thanks for your dedicated study and uploads.

  • Do you have the tabs for that bassline ?

  • @deonical41sutton, not the tabs: I have the transcription from "Standin in the Shadows of Motown".

  • Fuckin beast man. Good job. I wanna learn this and ain't no mountain high enough

  • nice jazzbass

  • this is really really good man....great job and nice bass too

  • Sounds great. Solid and steady groove. Only thing I would like to complain if you mind is the sound.

  • Thanks man!

As for the sound, maybe I'm a little heretic, but I tried to recreate the idea I have of a Precision tone (considering I never played one).

  • that sounds so different than where music is today.

    LOL

  • Good effort.

But PLEASE listen to the J5 version, not the Jamerson tribute version.

The secret is to understand and hear what Jamerson heard. He wasn't hearing a sequenced combo on an instruction tape. He was listening to the best house band ever assembled, and the greatest child prodigy singer of all time and the overall Motown Sound. Big ears my friend.

Good strong effort. Now get the feeling and the nuance. (and the FLAT wound strings)

  • Yep, you're right. I've studied the tribute version more than the J5 one. But I can't stand flatwound strings.

  • do you know where i can the keys to this song i want to learn to play this one

  • Actually, there tabs in the James Jamerson tribute book & CD Standing in the Shadows of Motown

  • wow bro your awesome i love the way u play that

  • ... except for the fifth note that's really out of time ... Thanks, I apreciated.

  • haha, i heard that and thought oh man this might be bad...you totally killed it tho man, great job!

  • Thanks mate!

  • nice cover!good playing!

  • This is one of my favourites songs of The Jackson 5,you are a great bass player

  • great job man, nice feel!

  • Thanks a lot!

  • Nice man! I dig that bass too!

  • Right on brotha right on!!

  • great! Now try it with one finger like jamerson did :o)

  • @blindbass2 We have 4 fingers and a thumb - why not use them?

  • yeah man!well done
