Mr. Lee was my French teacher at Oakland High School (1960) and the class used to sing this song to him in French--un, deux, trois. It scans. Too bad this group was a one hit wonder. The group included Jannie and Emma Pought, Reather Dixon, Lara Webb, and Helen Gather. Any idea who these four are?
Wow! I didnt even know it was a real song! I saw Claire and a friend of hers sing it on the Cosby show! And it was such a cute song I decided to youtube it to see if it was a real song! Cool
Does anyone know that they were in high school when they made this record? Mr. Lee was the Principal of the high school. He was o.k. with the Mr. Lee song but wasn't too amused with I Shot Mr. Lee. Just a little trivia.
So true. But what's with the outfits? (I saw them in Green Bay and they looked much better than this. They also did some songs no one would associate with them, and just nailed some spectacular harmony to the wall!) Those are some truly awful outfits (what my friends and I call "ought nots") And it wouldn't take much to improve the whole thing. I love the lady on the left, she is so cool.
I still think this is one of the defining rock and roll hits ever. It was simple yet carried the flavor and attitude of the 50's. This is truly one of the great tunes that hardly ever gets played on the so-called oldie stations.
I remember one of them saying they killed off Mr Lee because they were fed up with other groups ripping off their song.

What blows my mind is that when Mr. Lee was recorded, the girls were aged 11-13.
