There's only one that can do justice to this song,one who started competing at 7,one who by age 14 had gone throu over 100 singing contest,and this is how she live,by winning the grand prices to help her mother and younger brother.The "Bodyguard medley" is her number one contest piece.
There's a sadness surrounding her at this performance and her voice is clearly not what it once was. It seems life and the drugs were taking their toll. Regardless, she'll always be the best!

Poor Whitney. At this point this song, even lowered in key, was way beyond her. She really struggles with it and has to slip into falsetto at the end, cracks a couple of times. I wonder why she didn't just decline the offer or choose another song or lower the key a half step more.

It must have been tough to sing this live for Arthur Ashe at that time, she carried the entire staidum and put it in the laps of this legend, then again this woman carried the entire nation when she sung the national anthem finally the way it should be, she carried lovers, children, a husband, an extended family. She is God fearing, there is something special about her, she is built like a brick.
By normal standards it was a good performance. But by Whitney standards it was pretty weak. Listen to her version at the 1989 grammys and its like 2 different people.
But considering she had been doing hard drugs for 5 years at this point she still sounds pretty good.

The BEST female vocalist of ALL TIME, hands down! There are many out there in the same league as her, i.e. Dionne Warwick, Celine Dion, Cher, Tina Turner, however there is something magical about Whitney's voice, it resonates with perfection that can only come from God. Again, this is not a put down to any other great female vocalist out there, it's just that Whitney outshines them all! R.I.P. Whitney, time for your to be in God's arms eternally. Thank you God for loaning us Whitney Houston.

She always felt she had to top the last BIG moment in her life. Its sad that singers/movie stars/athletes have to always have that weight of topping what they did last. This alone wears down or celebraties but we are too vain to realize what they go through to survive. Showbusiness can be rewarding but also a BITCH to have to live by their standards. The pressure is hell all by itself.

Whitney un-like others said, "I can sing, I'm talented and Oh by the way I just so happen to beautiful also". This is so unlike those female singers today who say, "look I'm pretty, know how to sale sex on stage, Oh and by the way I can also sing a little". Poor Whitney. At this point this song, even lowered in key, was way beyond her. She really struggles with it and has to slip into falsetto at the end, cracks a couple of times. I wonder why she didn't just decline the offer or choose another song or lower the key a half step more.

It must have been tough to sing this live for Arthur Ashe at that time, she carried the entire staidum and put it in the laps of this legend, then again this woman carried the entire nation when she sung the national anthem finally the way it should be, she carried lovers, children, a husband, an extended family. She is God fearing, there is something special about her, she is built like a brick.

By normal standards it was a good performance. But by Whitney standards it was pretty weak. Listen to her version at the 1989 grammys and its like 2 different people.
But considering she had been doing hard drugs for 5 years at this point she still sounds pretty good.
