I'm shocked that the British Heritage have refused to dedicate a blue plaque to him, saying he didn't have the required "stature". He is and will always be a myth.
T.Rex has been a fav band of mine for nearly 3 years now, and I must know every lyric on The Slider! This is their best album, and if your new to the band, this album is where to go! I personally think this is loads better than Electric Warrior. It's shameful that their Folk Rock music didn't get Bolan anywhere. Please, check out their first 2 albums, Unicorn and A Beard of Stars!
T Rex was just so great! He (Bolan) was such a wonderful talent and unique artist that he is truly timeless and always sounds fresh and valid....I wish we had some stars and rock groups even close to that now in 2011
I really miss vinyl. This transferred over to digital much better than most albums from that time. They seem to lose a little soul or something. I have the 2 disc set with The Slider and the original and/or alternate versions of the final songs on The Slider. When I left Hawaii in 79 I left about 4 hundred albums behind:(
Some songs are really really good but will only be listened to for about 3 years after they where first released and then there's marc bolan's songs that will last forever.
im 52 now, spent 14 to 18 engrossed in his songs. saw him in westcliffe folkestone in 76,i think, fantastic!! got posted abroad with the army & found out he'd died 4 days after it happened... devastated, what a loss to rock n roll, british culture & me. he'll still be listened too long after ive gone, that speaks volumes.Rock On.
This brings me back to Jr. High in the early 70's. Lived in a small town of 10,000 in Southern Minnesota. Every Friday & Saturday night saw 100's & 100's of kids invading downtown, hitting the pool hall, the youth center, the 3.2 bar, lining the streets, making out, smoking, toking, drinking, dropping lsd & mesc. Life was so much different then. Even the cops were laid-back. Seems like a dream now.
For those three that didn't like this song or for that matter any of Marc Bolan's music....YOU must know or understand glam rock as some refered to Bolan's music. Call it glam rock, rock or just hard driving rock...REGARDLESS...Marc Bolan was one of the best rockers and was a master with the electric guitar. It was a sad day when Marc Bolan died....He left his imprint all over the world of rock...!!!!!!!!
@ifyouwantbochin "The most prevalent one was the intentionally disposable trashiness of T. Rex; leader Marc Bolan pioneered glam's fashion sense and crafted music that was all sexy, silly fun -- or, to put it another way, music where the surface was the substance. Artists like Gary Glitter, Sweet, and Slade followed the T. Rex aesthetic, in the process creating a substyle known as glitter (which was even more exclusively British)".
@TheDazedDude101 I did the homework for you: "Often confused with '80s hair metal (at least by American listeners), glam rock was an almost entirely British phenomenon that became wildly popular during the first half of the '70s. Glam rock was fairly simple, crunchy guitar rock put across with outrageous theatricality. Most of the music was unabashedly catchy, with melodies drawn from teenage bubblegum pop and hip-shaking rhythms from early rock & roll".
@palindromDK Well, the intro to Ventilator Blues is definitely there, but I think Bolan has beefed it up and then created a whole different song. I mean it's Rock n Roll.....if you wanna blag you blag!
Every track on this album - is rock Gold - one of the best Fivers I ever spent I can't count the number of times I've played individual tracks and or the entire album - Marc was music in human form
@MaceMn -Totally-I agree with you there. My 14 yr old daughter is liking some of it too even.Got the CD of Electric Warrior and it was $29.95 and isnt even in a hard case-its sort of soft cardboard-expanded edition of some guff and imported. In NZ now if it isnt in stock in the stores, then its order it as I did as an import :O.I would rather Vinyl myself, but turntables are a right rip these days
@phailez oh right- well thats sounds abt right but fuck they are a RIP OFF-back in the mid 80s it would have been around 29$.I wish I hadnt sold and at a huge loss, my record collection at the time as they would be excruciatingly valuable nowdays-I try not to think about it as it would ruin my day still-lmao.Only JB Hi Fi around Hamz-the wankhouse is shit- they dont have it- they cant and dont bother to "order" for customers do they?lol- what classy service
@mike666nz Yeah JB Hi Fi is the only place I can find half the cds I want and they seem to always be really expensive special imports or something like that.
