  • yeah it sounds so much better in 7/4 i'm sorry but good playing.

  • yeah, great take :)

  • which cafe/pub whas this?

  • It's the New Morning Club...thanks for checking it out!

  • Interesting (re)arrangement but played too fast.

  • Loved it ! so what, the catchy ending was missing. This was marvelous.

  • good job!!!

  • apparently brubeck himself said

"i love this arrangement, wouldn't change a note."

  • Dunno what the fuss is about 4/4. It's an unusual arrangement. If I wanted to hear the recorded version I'd just put that on. The whole point of live music people... something new and different...

  • I don't think Paddy Milner changed the meter. Listening to this and Bruebeck's original and the only difference I hear is the arrangement, not the meter.

  • I'm a big Brubeck fan--in fact I just saw him on May 22, 2009, at the Jacksonville Jazz Fesitval (his first gig since his recent illness). Anyway, I think the criticism of this version going into 4/4 time is a little weak; it's like saying that Brubeck's Blue Rondo a la Turk is lame because it goes from 9/8 time to 12-bar, 4/4 blues for the solos. Come on. I never even heard of Paddy Milner until today, but I gotta admit he made Unsquare Dance pretty rockin' in 7/4.

  • I completely agree. The point of the unsquare dance is to not be in 4/4 time. Also, the end is a bit cheesy.

  • They swing, they rock and they roll! And most of everything - they are entertaining.

And that is really all music is about, isn't it? So who cares if it is like or unlike the original?

    Five stars.

  • Well that's a bit of a butchery of the original- but they all seem to be having a ball so good on them.

  • WOW ..As a mad brubeck fan I must say that is just brilliant!!!!Forget these purist tossers comments... whats wrong with reminding listeners of what the odd timing is in contrast to! Great job, I love it

  • i agree, the transition into 4/4 kills it for me

  • Yeah sounded very odd!

  • when they switch into 4/4 it kills the song, with the stupid drumming. I don't like this version, maybe i've listened to the original way too much.

  • nice!

  • it's part of the song actaully it's supposed to be there.

  • I know that clapping is a part of the original song. It's cool on the Brubeck recording cause of the jam character but live on a concert its gay! Reminds me always of this silly clapping-partysongs, where everybody has to sway and clap (like the chicken dance). but this is a Jazzsong! So please not!

  • lol

  • abso-fuckin-lutely hot!!!

  • this really made me smile
