  • Bullshit. I just figured. the wasting of the time with throwing up.

It's a waste. you speak of Mia there stupid Mia doesn't hold a bracelet.

    PRO ANA'S ARE GAY.

CUT BACK ON THE EATING WALK WORK OUT AND STOP WATCHING THIS NEVER ENDING BULLSHIT.

  • WTF is with the music??

  • Thin is not in!!!

  • ya. Just because it seems like models and celebrities make it seem like a fashion trend, doesnt mean it is. My mom was crying after reading a story about a girl who died from anorexia, and told me never to take that path.

  • Oh and by the way... anorexia is often compared to other mental illnesses by anorexics themselves, just to let people understand better what they are going through. So go tell them THEY are complete idiots. And go tell psychologists and doctors that they are all full of crap, since they have the balls to claim that EDs are real diseases. Yeah... this world is full of idiots. But no one's perfect, you know.

  • The ones who use THINSPO are the so-called "pro-ana", which has nothing to do with real anorexia (or bulimia). And by the way, in my opinion they can all go fuck themselves and starve to death. EDs are mental illnesses, and I know that for sure, believe me. It is definitely NOT a matter of choice. Can a schizophrenic decide whether to see things that do not exist in reality? No, it's a disease. So, if you don't know what you are talking about because you never had an ED, just say nothing, please

  • the fact that i don't have one does NOT mean i know nothing about it. the fact that you're comparing it to schizophrenia shows that you are a complete idiot because they're NOTHING alike. at least pro-anas don't try to make people feel sorry for them by pretending to have some diseae that doesn't exist. no one forces fat people to eat and no on and nothing forces anorexics to not eat. it's just a shameless ploy for attention.

  • First of all, I didn't call you names, so I don't understand why you felt the need to. I just assumed that you don't know much about EDs from what you had written, but I don't think that's a good reason to insult people. Second of all, I might be a "complete idiot", as you kindly said, but this: "pretending to have some diseae that doesn't exist" and this: "no one forces fat people to eat and no on and nothing forces anorexics to not eat" makes me think that you don't know much about it either.

  • i'm sorry, you're right, i shouldn't have insulted you. on the topic, i've actually done a lot of research on it and that's how i came to the conclusion i did. there are two sides to this argument, like most, so it is a matter of opinion. i just get very annoyed at the majority who just go with it whenever the media calls something a 'disease'. oh, sorry if i spelled it wrong. i know i did in my last comment. that was a typo, though. one, too. i didn't mean 'on' lol.maybe i ought to proofread :)

  • It's ok, I do appreciate your apology. Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, after all. I was just speaking from my point of view. Disease or not, I can assure you that it's something that turns your life into a nightmare. Or maybe I should speak from my own experience and say that when you already have serious issues caused by family, traumas or whatever, you are most likely to develop an ED. By the way.. I didn't even notice the typo in your last message.. I just copied/pasted ;-) lol

  • @Elvesdoitbetter

FUCK YOU I'LL LIVE MUCH BETTER BY JOINING A RED BRACELET IN HIS COOKING.

THE FACT THE PRO ANA'S ARE CHANGING THE RULES. YOU DO NOT STARVE. YOU TURN AROUND AND EAT. AND YOUR FUCKING STUPID TAKE YOUR BULLSHIT ELSE WHERE.

  • @froggymicwop

FUCK YOU!!! THEY HAVE THE DISORDER. AND YOUR DAMN WELL FOOLISH!!!!

  • @x0geeky0x hahaha calling someone foolish and not knowing the difference between your and you're is HILARIOUS.

  • Well said =]

  • @Elvesdoitbetter

I've never thought about it iike that but you're so right about people who do that.

I think people should stop saying disease though because its a disorder and not a disease .... to my understanding at least... but who knows I could be wrong , I'm sure I'm not though

  • Eating disorders are mental illnesses not fashion trends. Anorexia nervosa (AN) has been documented back 100s of years. Recent research has linked AN to inherited neuro-developmental conditions such as autism. The brains of individuals with AN process information in a particular way - focusing on detail and systemising. The individual often sees their body as 'wrong'. They also set themselves rules around food/eating which they feel compelled to stick to. AN is not vanity but a brain illness.

  • I have struggled with anorexia nervosa for 30 yrs. I never 'chose' to develop the illness. I started to restrict food and to over-exercise in response to trauma and anxiety. I found that I couldn't stop because my mind was dominated by thoughts that instructed me to starve and exercise in a ritualistic way. I had OCD before anorexia. The suggestion that anorexia nervosa is actually caused by the media and celebrity culture is complete nonsense.

  • Disease.

  • very good info, talks about something different than the other ED videos I've seen on here. But, I could have done w/o that annoying music, though I know that's not really the important part. Stay strong everyone!

  • the thing about eating disorders is you either recover or die so its just a waste of time and health

  • its weird though, i get what she was saying,i was once anorexic and i wouldnt eat I couldnt eat i might have a bite of something but thats it. Then after a full year of theraphy and stuff they told me i had to be hospitilized and be tube fed, and then that was kind of my turning point and it wasnt as physical so I could control myself physiquelly but not mentally. i stillthink im fat. I had the mind of an anorexic but can control my body. its just really hard to deal with.

  • I know exactly what you mean. You pretty much described exactly what I feel. I know this wasn't your intention, but you kind of made me feel a little better just because I'm not the only one out there like this. Thanks (:

  • im glad I helped someone then :D

  • its a disease and i still cant find a cure! damin!

  • when is the awareness week?

  • The background music is a little bit too loud so it makes it hard to listen to Alexis. She has such a soft and calming way of speaking :)

  • Thinness as a sign of power? WTF? A regular guy can snap you in two, and that's power?

  • She means willpower, the power of your mind over the urge and need to eat. They don't care about the consequential physical weakness, which they may never fully recover from. The body actually starts to use muscle tissue for energy when it runs out of fat, so, yes, those with eating disorders are physically weak. Many have brittle bones, and lose teeth and hair due to inadequate calcium and fat intake. They don't really care about whether they can take on a man. They're mentally ill.

  • That tune is scaring the shit outta me.

  • me tooo!

  • whats that little tune in the background?

  • Aint nothing pretty about a pin thin woman. D:<

  • Amen.

  • The lady with the brown shirt is talking kind of soft or low.

  • The women in the brown sweater is hardly audible....is it just my computer?

  • "disordered eating" i've heard it all ! LOLLLL We've made ourselves dizzy with

ALL food related subjects ! If we had lives like the pioneers we'd be busy "working" and not playing mind games. Never has something been so " coddled" so enabled and supported

by it's own participants. Please don't get mad at me for writing this as it's " not my fault" due to previous trauma(s)

  • Why does "attention" only go to AN?! Hello!?! ED does not mean thin!!

  • I wanted to get all the way through this but found the repetitive music too intrusive!

  • SAME. OMG.

  • eating disorders are definitely socially constructed. if society didnt place such a high value on thinness, people wouldnt strive to govern their bodies that way.

  • Very true: only exsistent in Economically developed Western countries.

  • not 100% true but yes, the majority of people afflicted with them are from the Western world

  • Then explain to me why Anorexia Nervosa has existed in times where the social norm for female body fashions was for larger, plumper, fleshier women?

  • Good point

  • this is great info for me so shut the fuck up all of you. yous lot aint got the eating disorder if u have then youve got my synpthy coz ive got an eating disorder

  • A disease is an abnormal condition of an organism that impairs bodily functions, associated with specific symptoms and signs.

In human beings,"disease" is often used more broadly to refer to any condition that causes discomfort, distress, social problems, and/or death to the person afflicted. In this broader sense, it sometimes includes disabilities, disorders, syndromes, infections and deviant behaviors.

While many diseases are biological processes others involve alterations of behavior.

  • I think people who have a problem with anorexia should try smoking pot. Just a thought from a personal standpoint. I can't imagine anyone having that strong of willpower avoiding a brownie after smoking pot.

  • Only a stoner could recommend such nonsense.

  • lol, actually they are doing research on this and it shows some promise. They use it for cancer patients and they are testing it on anorexia patients as well. Google anorexia and marijuana. Next time don't jump to conclusions you nitwit.

  • While I'm not advocating for or against marijuana use, I don't think advising anyone with an eating disorder to smoke pot is such a good idea. Obviously there are psychological problems already apparent and introducing a substance that may alter ones state of mind would likely have a negative outcome one way or another. It is widely known that to break a habit you must replace it with another, to replace not eating with anything other than eating correctly is counter productive.

  • I understand what you're saying however psychiatry is not an exact science if it were we wouldn't have all these people with psych problems. The reason we have all these drugs is to try by trial and error. If one doesn't work doctors try something else. Hence the research on marijuana use with eating disorders. It has been advocated for AIDS/HIV patients.

  • The risk/benefits obviously need to be weighed, then again the risk are far fewer than conventional medication. The losers would be the drug companies.

  • I have had experience with both... I think the answer is more with a world of compassion

  • amen to that.

  • the music drove me crazy but i liked the interview

  • interesting...
