  • why did they call him a Limey cocksucker in the show? he didn't have much of a british accent, at least not as strong as his natural accent is. or was Jane just lampshading the fact that the actor was british?

  • That voice.

  • Al Swearengen is such an epically acted badass... he almost gives James Gandolfini a run for best boss on television.

  • Best actor on the F@#$ing planet.

  • I'm fucking scared of the man. All I can see behind that face is overwhleming desire to stab me in the guts and get all my gold, grumbling about what a fucking stupid cocksucker I am.

  • @100538 You got gold? then you not stupid. Ian is terrific.

  • When I see Ian, I see Al Swearengen. Even without the mustache

  • Fucking incompetant cocksuckers

  • Ian McShane is just an AWESOME actor! I was so disappointed to see there were no more episodes of Deadwood. Is there anymore to this Charlie Rose interview?

  • i love his voice :)

  • $4,000 to $5,000 a day? In 1878 dollars? He has to be talking inflation adusted dollars relative to 2011? First one to bring me the answer gets their choice: $20 credit at the Gem (in 1878 dollars) or a ball of dope.

Ok, just realized, McShane said "at the time the series was set" . That is a pile of money in 2011 dollars.

  • @rojamey I read somewhere that adjusted for inflation $5000 in 1878 would be close to $200,000 in 2011... Amazing that he died alone and broke.

  • anyone watched 44 inch chest?

  • I want more fucking Deadwood.

  • Check him out in the BBC series " Lovejoy".

  • Loved him in Kings. He was the only reason that show stood a chance in my opinion.

  • I just finished watching Deadwood, that was a 5 season show for sure! I can't believe they cancelled it.

  • "mutiny...HANGED !!!"

  • screw deadwood!! to me he will always be Lovejoy, selling dodgy antiques.

  • I wish Ian would have been more successful earlier in life. I've seen him younger and he would have made a great Bond

  • fuck this guy is underrated

  • Watching Deadwood, which I am finally seeing NOW; the dialogue is like 19th C Shakespear! Even with all the cuss words!

  • I found ripped copies of Deadwood in the garbage. I'd written westerns off my movie hobby, and it ressurected in the Black Hills of Dakotas. As Blade Runner was voted best science fiction ever, competing with The Matrix and 2010, Deadwood is the best western ever made. It got cancelled? That's terrible. We want more...

  • American capitalism coming together!

  • Deadwood is the pinnacle of screenwriting.

  • He was sooooo perfect in '44-inch Chest' as well.

  • i really like his rich, warm voice. Vincent Price, Christopher lee and Ian Mcshane should all have done animation, akthough Vincent price actually did.

  • We were cheated in the same way with Carnivale. Not sure why HBO feels they need to cut something in mid-stream when it's a success. It smells of bi-polar management practices and policies. Deadwood is a great statement of the truth of early American expansion into the land that belonged to someone else, the dirt worshipers as Swearingen so puts it. So sad they did not feel the need to complete the task.

  • It's so fucking weird seeing Al Swearengen, explaining the REAL Al Swearengen...

  • @smokinbluntzz you are correct he is very underrated. He is one of my favorite actors

  • "Luppy fuckin cunt" - Al Swearengen. Man how I miss this show, along with Rome and Carnivale, 2 shows including Deadwood, that ended WAY to soon.

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP! This isn't about your stupid politics, both side SHUT THE FUCK UP!

George Hearst was evil, and yes he was a capitalist. We live with his legacy of media control by the elite yet today. SO THE FUCK WHAT>?<

It has nothing to do with Deadwood.

  • HBO is a disgrace for canceling this show and letting the Sopranos drone on for 6 seasons.

  • he is fucking awesome. So smooth without a beard.

  • 'Capitalism' is probably the keyword here. The portrayal of capitalism in the form of George Hurst was a pretty blatant reference to what American free market capitalism still is today. I suspect this had more to do with the shows cancellation that anything.

It runs even deeper than The Wire did. One of the if not the best drama in the history of TV.

  • @codelocator Oh get real! This sounds like a "convenient" bullshit reason to push progressive socialism and communism. It's the same ol', same ol'..."oh gee, look how bad some capitalists are." Yeah, as Al Swearengen might say" you worthless cocksucking socialists never pay attention to the fact that it's private capitalists, not the government, that voluntarily dontates billions of dollars a year to charities." Typical progressive- only pointing out the little bad and ignoring all the good.

  • @guyfroml

    You're clearly really fucking stupid.

  • @codelocator Coming from the like of you, I'll take that as a compliment. Oh surely, you're one of those "smart" people, the kind who thinks they've got the progressive-socialists solution to all the problems of we dumb ass ingorant people.

If it makes your heart feel good and a little better about yourself...you just keep right on believing that.

  • @guyfroml

    You're definitely very fucking stupid.

  • @codelocator Like I said, coming from the likes you that's a compliment. Thanks, Opi.

  • @codelocator If you think the portrayal of Hearst was anything close to capitalism today, you need to get an education. Tv education doesn't count.

  • @MrGrevy

Oh please fuck off. Capitalism is always the same, robber barons forever.

    Look it up shithead.

  • @codelocator Robber barons? Lol Seriously? Do you even know what you're talking about? Good lord you sound like a conspiracy laden Alex Jones enthusiast. Go get a GED or read a book. Disgraceful.

  • Welcome to fuckin', Deadwood! It's combative!. I want it back :(

  • I know nothing about this guy, except that i saw today that he played in Deadwood, which I never saw at the tv, still i like him a lot.

  • Bring back 'Lovejoy'!

  • @ofcoursehesthefarmer Agreed. Lovejoy was a badass.

  • Ive never watched Deadwood. Its just that there was a scene (from Deadwood) that i watched on youtube where Ian Mcshane is with a prostitute and there he was talking about some events i think. And his acting was AMAZING in that scene. His acting blew me away! And im thinking of watching Deadwood.

  • i really liked him in "sky west and crooked", he and hayley were a cute couple ;)

  • FUCK HBO.

  • im poo-ing myself in anticipation to see his performance as BlackBeard. He's going to outshine the lot of them, Johnny Depp included

  • the guy was fucking outstanding in deadwood. i never saw an actor have such fun playing a character before i saw ian mcshane as al swearengen. i was so disappointed when the show ended, but i think it ended well. we got to see the better sides of all the leading characters in an otherwise morally ambiguous environment.

  • The people at HBO are hoople headed cunts

  • Thumbs up for evil lovejoy!

  • Ian is just as wellspoken as his character in the series

  • I am so flippin excited that he's going to play Black Beard in the new Pirates of the Caribbean. Him and Geoffrey Rush in one movie ....... pshhh ... WIN!!

  • Yes, they did the same thing to Babylon5 or tried to. At least they got 5 years out of it. Deadwood was brilliant.

  • HBO cocksuckers.

  • Milch, you should be shot.

  • I enjoyed the show Rome and just got the Bluray, but HBO's decadence ruined their financial situation and forced them to axe a magnificent show in Deadwood. I wish Milch had optioned for the six episode run to quickly finish off the Hearst saga instead of choosing two films that were never made.

  • kneeel before Zod!

  • lovejoys a bad ass

  • McShane should really take over "the previews guy"-career now after Don LaFontaine is dead.

  • deadwood= the word Cocksucker 500 times

  • Thats all nice and well Ian, but one of the reasons they couldn't wrap up the series is because of the salaries these guys started demanding...if he loved doing this series so much, he should have lobbied for a fourth so it could wrap up the loose ends it left hanging.

  • Hey, come now; The Sopranos is awesome, and The Wire is awesome. Deadwood is perhaps even more awesome, but I only wish I had as much Deadwood as I have Sopranos and Wire...

  • Brilliant man and actor.

  • Best tv show ever. Better than the sopranos, better than the wire....just an amazing tv series....

  • Absolutely great series and great actor and actors.

  • fucking amazing actor deadwood shouldve been on longer

  • Fuck HBO and fuck that cocksucker Tony Soprano

  • @tommygun6644 Tony Soprano and Vick Mackie could join forces and fail forever against Al.

  • this guy is extremely underrated.

  • He has a great voice in Kung Fu Panda as Tai Lung

  • hE SO UNDER RATED

  • @zackhanscom You talk out of your fucking ring piece. Champion glass climber.

  • @zackhanscom LOL Jesus, listen to yourself. You're doing the exact thing you're bitching about, except you're doing the rage-against-the-machine act. We get it, you're much too provocative and edgy for us plebes. Roll the fuck on through, and be sure to keep raging against The Man with whatever non-conformist, counter-culture (oh look, that's something you tried to use as a weapon before) anti-establishment teen angst thing you've got going there, sport. My eyes, they're rolling.

  • Most actors are so stupid, so vacuous, when you hear them speaking as themselves... listen to the profound eloquence and thought in McShane's discussion... it's no wonder that Swearingen is one of the great characterizations in TV history.

  • is it just me or does he lose his accent playing al, who is supposed to be british? and i thought they stopped the show cuz timothy olyphant wanted to fail at movies.

  • HBO really made a terrible mistake when they cancelled Deadwood. The series was really gaining momentum and hitting its stride. Ian McShane was as skilled and interesting as Al Swearengen as James Gandolfini was as Tony Soprano, and that's as good as it gets.

  • Ian McShane is playing Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean 4 - On Stranger Tides =)

  • Who cares?

  • "Doesn't pay to be a dirt-worshipping heathen."

  • I LIKE WHEN HE COMES OUT IN DEATH RACE

  • just watched series 3 of Deadwood in a day. Fucking blown away big time! Watched them all in 2 weeks. But series 3 was so fucking intense i just couldn't stop after the first episode.

Multiple rewinds on scenes and cheered my fucking arse off when Dan ripped the captain's eye out.

    Ian McShane fucking ruled bigtime!!

  • @Rhinocerouslip Intense! I agree 100%

Deadwood did a fantastic job of keeping us watching. Just the subtle background music/sound was awesome! Ian McShane is awesome! Timothy Olyphant and Seth Bullock was great too.

Oh, side note... Timothy Olyphant is in the new USA series "Justified." Only one episode in, but looks awesome.

  • Just finished watching deadwood. This guy is a terrific actor.

  • ''heng di, cocksucker, now go out the back door, mcshane, we don't want to give the impression around here,'' charlie said to ian at the end of the show.

  • wu farnum and richardson are my favorites, huzzah!!

  • "Everybody brought their 'A' game"

No argument here. I'd put Deadwood in the top 3 best television series of all time.

  • and ian mcshane as best actor on any tv show the last 20 yrs...

  • @afterthefox

Yes, quite possibly. I wouldn't necessarily argue with that statement, but to be fair Ian does have some competition. If we keep this limited to TV shows, specifically arc series, then here's who I would rank in the top five best actors:

    1) Ian McShane: Deadwood

    2) Dominic West: The Wire

    3) Lance Reddick: The Wire

    4) Edward James Olmos: Battlestar Gallactica

    5) Michael C Hall: Dexter

Add LOST to the list above and I think you would also have the top 5 television series.

  • Dominic West was nowhere near the best actor on the Wire.

  • cocksucker!! gotta love al

  • Este hombre es un A C T O R A Z O.

  • What a magnificent portrayal Ian did of Al Swearengen. It is a f#cking crime that Deadwood wasn't allowed to finish properly. We've all been cheated by HBO. Greed and insanity...

  • @david111197 yeah they always do that the fuckers, they cancelled the brilliant Carnivale as well, they just care about ratings and dont give a shit about great television

  • The same with "Kings", Ian McShane's best acting role, I think. Cancelled. A shame.

  • @david111197 I totally agree, yesterday I finished the series and I'm like "nooooo! it can end there!" and everybody is like "yeah yeah it's dead, you have to move on now" lol...

  • @kantil17 Yeah, just finished the series tonight -kind of sad to think that from this point on there will never be another "unseen" episode, of course this series is so full of intense writing that it will probably take a few viewings to effectively take it all in.

  • @david111197 Why wasn't the series allowed to end properly? Ratings? That wouldn't be too HBO.

  • @david111197 ya, I'd like to see Al Swearengen lay into the clowns at HBO who did the cancellation.

  • @david111197 Those fucking cunts at HBO...

  • @david111197

Just finished the first series on Aussie TV. Agree with your assessment of McShane's performance 100%. His work was extraordinary.

  • @david111197 Agreed..I used to love watching ROME then Deadwood...

  • @david111197 I agree, David, all because they thought they had something with that "John from Cincinnati" crap! Boy, that turned out be a whopping success! Cancelled after one season. I heard the only reason it ran the entire season was because HBO wanted to save some face and had nothing to put in its place.

If wanted, HBO could bring back everyone for a last season to finish the story. From what I hear most everything in the set is still there at Gene Autry's ranch for any production.

  • @david111197 I used to think like that too. I have had an epiphany since. I do miss deadwood and have watched the three seasons many times. The mere fact that something of the substance, that is deadwood, even appeared on the tv is still endearing to me. The last strokes of Milches' masterpiece were wrought in the last season. I wouldn't want another stroke. He left a piece of art that will be discussed, copied, dissected, etc, for many years... As all great art should.

  • @david111197 Better Deadwood was cancelled early than to become a pathetic parody of itself the way shows like House have become.

  • Deadwood Monopoly would be hillarious!

  • he's losing his english accent

its almost all pretty much gone

  • What a brilliant actor, i love him.

  • America should be proud to have ian , he is a good actor. Shame we don't see much of him back home.

  • Is there a Deadwood board game out yet?

"Go back 3 spaces you loopy fuckin' cunt"

  • Christ, I'd buy it and play it buy myself if I had to.

  • Best comment ever.

  • Sexy Beast! His best! Where there's a will there's a way. There's always a f***ing way!

  • you fucknut watching this video, you better fucking give this video 5 fucking stars or i'm gona yank your eyeballs out you cocksucker

  • be fucked, ya limb dick shit eater

  • Ian McShane came good..we in the U.K just know him as 'Lovejoy' the rogue antiques dealer detective (damn that show was crap) but he really shone in Deadwood and has gone on to show his true acting ability.

  • Shwegen

  • WU!

  • SWEDGIN!

  • @thepissflap hahahaha WU SWEDGINNN!!! *CROSSING FINGERS* xD

  • @playakiwi

    HENG DAI!

    (means eternal brotherhood ;) )

  • COCKSUCKA

  • @thepissflap haha i choked on my spit when i suddenly saw this

  • "Wu, shut the FUCK up!" lol

  • Sexy voice!

  • Those fucking cocksuckers. They'll catch a fucking beatin'. And maybe die a horrible fucking diarrhea death.

  • Its a mighty fucking shame those damn cocksuckers retired that cinematic masterpiece.

  • They give their fucking word, and they cancel the show. Those cocksuckers at HBO don't care about us, they don't care abut a damn thing except their bottom line. Well, they'll learn their lesson. Sometimes it takes a knife to teach a lesson, huh, DJ? Teach them to give their word and cancel a great fucking show.

  • If I ever get to meet David Milch I am going to warmly shake his hand, then I'm going to break his fucking jaw.

  • KINGS too! I LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED that show!

  • Deadwood is better

  • I was a little disapointed Al didnt call charile a fucking cocksucker for what he is

  • I think The Wire was 100% realistic, but Deadwood was more intellectually and aesthetically challenging. I'm looking forward to watching Deadwood a second time, but I'll never watch the wire again. Too mentally exhausting and depressing. I give credit to the people who did The Wire though, it's a story that needed to be told and it was incredibly brave in it's honesty. I'm glad both ended without dragging it out.

  • Really well put. I recently rewatched Deadwood and realised that I find it more entertaining than The Wire and its depth is in different areas. I'd compare it with the difference between reading a thought provoking novel and reading a fascinating and insightful academic article. The Wire might ultimately have a more solid basis, but Deadwood also has a deep underlying message on capitalism and the human condition, and tells it in a more aesthetically pleasing way.

  • GOD I miss that fucking show.

  • Me too! Fucking hoopleheads canceled it!

  • "you loopy cunt!!!" lmao the fuckin best

  • COCK SUCKA!

  • LMAO

  • Al Swearengen is one of the greatest characters in the history of television. Hands down.

  • You're absolutely right. Unfortunately we only got to see him for three seasons.

  • name a show thats on tv right now thats betta??

    exactly

  • probably nothing out there is as good but the wire does better it .i stand by that and i love both shows equally .the wire really lets you in to the characters .check it out if you havent already .

  • lol No. Deadwood is FAR superior to The Wire.

  • it is in the end a matter of opinion.i respect your view on deadwood . i will repeat the fact that i really love deadwood it is an amazing show and well acted in every sense . i will however stand by the wire being the best of the two, not by a wide margin but never the less a well crafted show. i do hope they make the last remaing seasons of deadwood coz it would be tragic if they dont.

  • it's a very, very close contest between the two shows. both are very rich, and dense enough to warrant second, and even third viewings. but i have to give the edge to deadwood. while both are amazing accomplishments in regard to examining american societies, deadwood's stylized language is a masterwork by it's lonesome.

  • Deadwood is the best show ever, anyone who disagrees sucks cock by choice!

  • Brilliant!

  • two words spell check - c*cksuckers

  • lol deadwood sucks??? you obviously never saw a second of it... that show changed my life... or at least gave me a new outlook on life, how i wish to go back in time to when this show was set... quality of life today is SHIT compared to when America was a TRULY free country.... were not free anymore, not by a fucking long shot

  • Deadwood is a show about how humans try to live "free" and autonomous lives, but always end up seeking out (or defaulting to) community, government and law. It's not a libertarian show by a long shot.

  • loz deadwood sucks? it's just like one of the best top ten series ever, with hbo making most of them.

  • Your mom sucks...penises.

  • most amazing! blown away by his acting! makes exposition...

    i am wordless...

  • McShane is cool. Check him out in the true story "The Great Riviera Bank Robbery", about , well, probably 'the greatest bank robbery ever'.

  • Don't have HBO so we've just started watching it. On Season 2 and we are hooked. Gonna be sad when we get to Season 4 and it's over. Ian McShane totally rocks as As Swearengen.

  • I dont have foxtel (Cable in Oz) but after hearing the reviews bought the box set online- with shot glasses and poker set included!! We watched it so quickly it was brilliant. Cheers

  • " with shot glasses and poker set included!!"

Now THAT is smart marketing! haha

    Big Daddy

  • Brilliant, brilliant, BRILLIANT actor.

  • right on !

  • Bunch a san francisco cock suckers!!!
