  • i miss them even more when i here that song. AMEN!!!

  • I'm sorry to say this, as I love the Kingston Trio, and have listened to them since I was five, but this performance is painful to watch becuase Nick seemed to be having so much trouble.

  • Dave Guard's flashy picking was the best thing about the original KT.

  • Dave Guard was not only one of actual original threesome, he was the founder and leader of the group!

  • John Stewart was not an "original" member of the Trio -- he replaced Dave Guard.

  • 1. Nick seems unamused and totally out of the power loop. Ringo, let's say. Also not playing.

    2. Nice guitars.

  • @thishereguitar being of a certain age myself, I would say he probably needs to use the head.

  • I think the Kingston Trio had more of the best songs than any other group.

  • P.S. not the same original guys of course!

  • They're still touring...check out their website.

  • The original trio had Dave Guard who John Stewart replaced.....

  • I just learned of the deaths of NHick and Mary Tavers...I live under a rock I guess. All o9f the singers that I loved and love3 are aging and dieing just as I am. The music and the hearts of these people will live forever. I'm almost 64, and they were older than I. Luckily the clidren hear what the parents play, and now there is a new generation loving this music. Rest in pease and in the knowledge that no one who is remembered ever dies.

  • As a boy my brothers and I used to put on one the the Trio's albums in our living room, pick up our tennis racquets, and imitate Bob, John, and Nick to our parents delight. I never saw my Dad laugh so hard. Thanks you three guys for being such an enjoyable and integral part of my boyhood.

  • I first heard the Kingston Trio in the early '60s. The "At Large" album (my big sisters record) was the first album I was able to put on the record player by myself, I was born in '57. I must have played it at least a few hundred times and never got sick of it. To this day it remains one of my favorite albums, and groups! I just learned of the 2008 deaths less than an hour ago, there is something missing in the world now, Rest in Peace gentlemen. You'll be missed... "Bandit"... :(

  • 1959

  • They are truly great. And they bring me a lot of memories. Thanks.

  • thnaks do you play and sing too ?? i have a band called Sounds of the country you can fimd it on myspace i also have a few things on youtube. we play old country

  • May god bless em all. at least we have their music to remember them by

  • I doubt there will ever be another groupl that did so much so well . I would love to have the cahnce to do their music but i need to other good voices who know the kingston trio

    Jack Melling

    Sounds of the Country

  • @MrJackmelling my same exact issue

  • wtf are 3 people THINKING????? Forget the hair and the suits and ties...this era produced an entirely new genre of music, never to be repeated. No synthesizers, no added effects. Just guitars, beautiful voices and heartfelt music, from true musicians. Yes, I'm old enough to remember (most) of the words, and young enough to enjoy much of today's music. Burt for sheer purity, you cannot beat the artists of this era.

  • @carocuth Not only WTF are they thinking(if ANYTHING)but also WTF are they doing HERE if they don't like this wonderful music? If I don't like something,I LEAVE. Just how stupid can one be?

  • Never forgotten, Don't get no better, Thanks guys

  • RIP John Stewart

  • lovely boys thanks for all the great times and very happy memories!!

  • shit...how old do I feel...I remember when "Musicland" sold their albums for $.97 - a lot of money back in 64.

  • @billgr0248 wow. you can't even buy gum for $.97 now.

  • Like all the great performers, they were one (or, in their case, three) of a kind.

RIP, John Stewart, Nick Reynolds, Dave Guard, and Roger Gambill. Bob Shane, thanks for years of happy times and enjoy your retirement.

  • Love them and has always loved them!

  • as a kid I'd hear these guys come on the radio and I'd stop what I was doing to listen to them.

  • I loved them and their songs. Thanks for posting.

  • The best there was. They inspired and influenced thousands of guitar players - an a few banjo pickers too.

  • These guys were great....that is for sure...

  • ....the warmth of old friends on stage...doing what they did best together, is palpable...and it's simply wonderful...thanks for this...

  • how come its cut off too soon?

  • just soothing

  • WTF 2 dislikes for KT.Two badly disturbed people.

  • 2007

  • It is always a joy to see and hear the old bands, is sure beats the stuff on the market today. My favorite from The Kingston Trio is "Sloop john B"

  • How can you NOT like these guys.

  • @debbiedamoose 2007

  • Racism suffered a blow on this night...

  • black gospel , woody guthrie, weavers, kingston trio, elvis, beatles et al , to where we're we are now

  • dave , bog, nick are the originals. what yr is this, anyway?

  • @idic5 it was 2007

  • Can I ask what year this was? Thanks so much for posting. Nick, Bob and John were the best.

  • Every summer I would go see them at Carter Barron Amphitheater in Wash. DC. This was the early 60s and they are still some of the most memorable concerts I've ever been to. Opening acts were amazing too-Woody Allen when he was a stand up comic, Stan Getz and Astrid Gilberto, Carlos Joabim, etc. The boys were always friendly and you could easily go up and talk with them. Got their autographs every time. The really "expensive" front row seats were $3.50.

  • I loved these guys. Miss them a bunch. Thanks for posting this. You are a jem.

  • The punchline for the deer/shoulder joke should be delivered with a sweeping motion of the far side hand, as if brushing off a bug.

  • Look at this video on youtube:

    "David Cassidy Backstage Nokia"

David is signing and giving John's legendary guitar to a fan.

  • This song is still appropriate today as it was when it was sung in the 60's....the same ol' stuff in Irag, our kids getting maimed by IED's and getting killed for oil.

  • The snail joke is the one I use on people to test what kind of sense of humor they have. People who don't get it, just don't get it.

  • what happend to the other half of the song!?

  • the old joke actually says the hunter had a deer over his shoulder. it makes more sense when told right.

  • after Bob figures out "game warden," what does Stewart say? Even on their live CDs, they're always saying the funniest things under their breath and sometimes the mic picks it up, sometimes it doesn't. Can anyone tell?

  • @firesoftheempyrean I can't decipher it! But so true, their humour and warmth always make their live CDs a treat (and the wonderful musicianship and harmonies, of course)!

  • i am lookiing for the song You Can't Go Back to Kansas by the Kingston Trio.. anyone know if its posted or where I might get to hear it?

  • This song was done by John Stewart who may have wrote it as well if I remember correctly. Try looking for it under his name. He was a member of the Kingston Trio for Ten or so years before he went solo. He is considered a father of Americana Music. Good luck.

  • @ripperruss - No RR, it was written by Pete Seeger and Joe Hickerson. But the KT had a top 20 hit with it.

  • I think "You Can't Go (look) Back" is a John Stewart song after he left the Trio. It is on the California Bloodlines album originally and a great version of the "Phoenix Concerts" live album.

  • oh man. Where's the end w/John singing?

  • One of the three greatest bands of the twentieth century, bar none. God bless 'em.

  • All right, MikeBlitz, you've got my curiosity. Who are the other two?

  • Thanks, Guys. You left us beautiful music and memories.

  • Listen to that harmony, still as smoothe as ever.

  • too great !!!

  • Sorry John and Nick is gone.

I think the band should be revived, and we got the talent to do it.

Their greatest song perhaps is MTA which is a true story.

A friend of mine head of our learning foundation was there when it happened.

MTA we do in bluegrass jams all the time, and

Ed helps me do the chorus all the time, I sing the verses. Gov. Huckabee and his Little Rockers Fox News MAY come to jam with us I invited them to come and jam. It may happen

MTA will be done again with ED

  • Thanks for all the great music and the good memories guys - may your rest be both peaceful and long. RIP

  • I am a big Trio fan. The funniest was John. He tells a story of a blind date who looks like a line backer, wears an orthopedic hat and has a corsage growing "out" of her wrist. Another involves an early morning drive on an LA freeway and stopping to pick up a beautiful hitchiker. "Where you going?" "Oregon, mister where you going?" "Well, hell I was going out to get cigarettes but I guess I can go to Oregon." And with that a breaks into "July You're a Woman." I miss him. RIP big guy.

  • I thought she was going to Seattle.

  • God bless Nick and John 2OO8 and Dave 1991

    RIP old fellows

  • @fanchbrezoneg

The original tro recorded Tijuana Jail in 1950

Actually it was Ensenada not Tijuana.

This song was written for some of my navy buddies fromUSS Lexington CVA 16... Our divison officer PM Moody, went down and bailed them out,,, 1959.

  • @MrAmerican40 Hi from France,Thank for making me aware of the clarification. The song written by Denny Thompson was recorded 3 times by the Trio. 1-in 1959 for the album sessions AT LARGE (with Dave Guard) and published a single,as well as the stereo EP Tijuana Jail, later included on LP BEST OF,and THE FOLK ERA. 2- live in 66 (with John Stewart) for the 69 release of ONCE UPON A TIME - 3 -in 1981 and released in 1982 on the LP 25 YEARS NON-STOP with George Grove, Bob Shane and Roger Gambill.

  • I've been telling those jokes for months now. I can never get the big belly laughs Bob Shane got, but these guys are special. I sure do miss them.

  • Thanks for posting this clip. With the passing of each member a part of my life goes with them. When ever I would feel down all I have to do is play a Kingston Trio song, it never failed to cheer me back up. God Bless Bob and keep him well

  • Too bad the whole song's not there.

    It's great nonetheless.

  • We will miss you, Nick Reynolds. You guys were the best!!! I've loved y'all since I was a kid. RIP, friend, and you better've remembered to bring enough change to get on the heavenly MTA! I know you'll be singin' and pickin' and laughin' wherever you are, though. :-)

  • I always suspected that Reynolds had suffered a stroke, but never found any reference to it. It breaks my heart to hear of Nick's passing today (10/3). Now Bob is the sole survivor of the 60s-era groups. These 4 guys (Nick, Bob, Dave, & John) were never bested in their 10 year run. This clip is indeed a bittersweet reminder to their once-greatness and the ravages of time. It reminds me of my own mortality. Thanks so much for posting. Got more? What year was this recorded?

  • Check Bo's channel by clicking his name - he's got LOTS more. This was from the Trio Fantasy Camp run by John and Nick (with Bob coming as a guest) between 2000 and 2007 in Scottsdale, AZ. The camp continued in 2008 as a memorial to John, and Bob promises that it will return in 2009. This video is the final time that NB&J performed together in August 2007. On my channel you'll find a few more videos of Nick and John as a duo and with "campers."

  • RIP Nick Reynolds - thanks for the joy of music

  • This group was amongst the finest in the nation. They are missed.

  • The Kingston Trio went through several incarnations, the first with Shane, Reynolds, and Guard; the next with Stewart replacing Guard. There were several others until Shane, George Grove, and Reynolds brought the group back to speed. Today it is merely a tribute group, without any of the originals. Guard and Stewart have passed, Shane has heart disease, and Reynolds had a stroke. They are the finest American music group ever, bar none!

  • Amazing

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I loved these guys (especially John) and this is wonderful. I wish I could see the whole thing. Long live Bob & Nick.

  • Given the context of Stewart's passing this song is even sadder than it would be otherwise. The Trio was superb.

  • This is great, but not the oringinal Kingston Trio, John Stewart took over for Dave Guard(the original Banjo player) in the early sixties(61, I think) When Dave went his own way. Thanks for posting, put up some more!

  • Thank you for sharing. It is sad John Stewart is not with us, but the gift of songs with his friends remain. This music is American

    treasure

  • This is GOLD. Bittersweet.
