i pretty much had no respect for extreme metal until I heard Storm of the Light's Bane and In Flames' Jester Race. This album is one of the best albums ever in any genre. Too bad Jons worldview will likely keep many possible fans from ever giving this stuff a chance.
@reppinwoodville I completely agree, I have listened to uncountable metal albums, but Dissections first 2 records and In Flames first 2 (and their great Subterranean EP) are still one of my favorite albums of all time, stuff like this is timeless!
@MrUsedBooks You don't really 'grow out' of music. I have heard this argument applied to metal in general and that is a rather old and tired 'argument'. Black metal is simplistic? So? So is much punk, but it is effective, nonetheless.
Seriously ... This is Black/Death = Dark metal. Most of metal artists say that Dissection created a new genre, by creating a black metal music and atmosphere, on death metal rythmic structures.
Why ? Because at this moment, in SWE, Death metal was the main genre played, whereas Norway, it was Black metal.
Jon just mixed black and death up to make some incredible music.

You can hear bands changing with them, Dissection included. If they didn't, then why have all their albums different sounds, all mirroring the sounds of the scene of the time?
This was not what I was expecting, but it's really very good. I can certainly understand the genre confusion issue. @FenderUsa I was disappointed in Reinkaos too, but after listening through it 40-50 times, I see (hear) it's the work of a genious. "The Somberlain" + "Storm of the Lights bane" are already done. They can't possibly be done better than they are already..... any such attempt would be a disgrace... Reinkaos IS - if u give it some time - totally brilliant!!!
@FenderUsa very true, if people actually understood what the 218, azerate and his true message was they would understand the reason for his style in this album.

@Malignant666Worship No shit'' this Band Hands Down' are top 5' Black metal Bands of Alltime Dissection Enslaved Bathory Early Satyricon Early Darkthrone the other 5 Burzum Gorgoroth Taake Watain And ooops I Forgeted Behexen oh ya'' the list never dies' Hellhammer' Beherit
This song and album are both amazing, but I'm not calling them "anti-cosmic metal of death" regardless. Black metal works for me, if you wanna call em blackened death or melodic black, or whatever else, go for it.
All sites I went said it was Black/Death, two genres which come from Thrash, so it can be 'Thrashy'. On a discussion about the genre of a band, every body have a part of truth. Wikipedia says Nötveid called it 'Anti-Cosmic Metal Of Death'... Ok, that's a wikipedia information...
I'd call this melodic black metal, which still counts as black metal, this is really fucking good, haven't heard of these guys before and I live in Sweden..
@FenderUsa Well, I imagine they kept the black metal tag after people more recently began to refer to them as black metal. But, they pre-date the Norwegian black metal scene just a little. But, not like Bathory or Venom era precursor black metal. They are black metal but they were Gothenburg death metal until they had the category to fit into. If you know what I mean.
@FenderUsa I almost confused them with melody death metal for the longest time but it isnt (I realized it after I couldnt find them in any top ten melody death metal lists). I still have to go with what you say.... black metal.
@FenderUsa buddy... you forgot the most important site... THE METAL-ARCHIVES !!!! if you had the brains to look in such a place, you would know they were Melodic Death/Black, then after Jon got out of jail they went Melodic Death Metal!!
@cheesecakesocks I have to agree, just listen to the style of drumming, it's more related to Gothemburg, not Black...it has something in common, but it's not pure Black stuff
@cheesecakesocks Who cares? I've heard people make the argument that De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas isn't true black metal because it isn't raw like Live in Leipzig. It's all opinion.
@cheesecakesocks they are the definition of black death. "they are just...." JUST??? you talk about dissection dude, a bit careful what words you use.
@cheesecakesocks Dissection played black metal when Gothenburg style wasn't even there yet. Although they latest album sure is much Gothenburg-like, their earlier recordings are pure bm, just more melodic than one would usually expect from bands typically mentioned when someone says "black metal".
@Nebulosa666 Please. Extreme metal is a term used by the bands themselves so as to not try to identify witha genre, and there for not hold back there creativity. The fans know what genre it is, and this is BLACK metal. Bands like CoF use the term "extreme" metal just so they dont offend fans of black metal who think they are not. Extreme is such an overarcing tag. You could call anything without only clean vocals 'Extreme", and that doesnt do this band justice.
@YTisMyPlaylist You say that like it is a good thing. I looked into the suicide and it was a ritualistic suicide. That is probably the stupidest reason to kill yourself.
@YTisMyPlaylist I am not hating on metal, I enjoy metal. However, I do not like this band or black metal in genre. I'm not even talking about Death Metal I am talking about this specific band. I was unaware music had feelings.
For me your comment is so far down the path of disconnection from SOUL it makes me sorry for you in the years ahead during which you will encounter feelings in music of all kinds. The feelings of the composers, performers, the mass of feelings that brought these together to create a piece that resonates with many people + becomes a memorable temple on the road of life for millions who do FEEL the vibes of composer, performers, those who enjoy.
@sophiah88 Music itself does not have feelings though. The feelings come from the people that write the music. The only soul that this speaks to is angst ridden teenage males that will eventually grow out of the whole black metal phase in their life.
@MrUsedBooks Music itself does not have feelings though. '

Your lack of knowledge of esoterica does not make your opinions righteous.
Music is the manifestation of Sacred Geometry on which the Universe is based
That Black Metal is currently popular is sign of chaos in the Souls of Earth humans as we move closer to the final phase Many young people feel this as the Universe sends formulae via music that some channelers can translate into sounds that help listeners to hold their Souls together.
@sophiah88 yeah ok, then. Will you just listen or at least don't ruin the moment to others with explanatory answers. I'm asking nicely. Let the others enjoy.
@TheHopelessDrummer Will you just listen or at least don't ruin the moment to others with explanatory answers. I'm asking nicely. Let the others enjoy.

??
WTF r u talking about mouth? No one is preventing any 'others' from enjoying any music. Actually I have heard this many times and your attempt to accuse me of some nebulous transgression that lives only in your head says a lot about what minute understanding of what my words conveyed. Turn down your white noise volume.
@DannyDeth2 Do you think anyone is going to care about your opinion? I think rap and pop music sucks but you don't see me spamming their videos saying they suck. Unlike you, I have better things to do with my time, like enjoy the music I do like.
@Chronshard Yea, I'm sure when people study music in college there is a whole section about the importance of death metal and how it's impact changed the way modern composers write music today. There is nothing going in this this song that can be taken seriously by anyone.
@MrUsedBooks maybe if you took your head out of your fuckin ass, you'd see that Death metal/Black Metal, is a way to show how extreme music can be pushed to. and this is a perfect example of it. they don't teach you shit about Black metal and death metal in college, yeah? your point is?. they still teach you the necessities required to build this kind of music. which can take YEARS. the only thing here that can't be taken seriously is your pussy invalid opinion.
@FreezingMo0n How is an opinion invalid? I have never heard any black metal that requires anyone to play anything that would take more then a year of playing said instrument. If it takes you years to play it it's probably time to start taking lessons. Extreme music pushed to what? You didn't finish your sentence.
@MrUsedBooks If you REALLY think that it takes under a year to come up with this . then i suggest you grab a guitar and make something more Original than this, and Make a video of yourself playing it. you'll see how hard REAL black metal is difficult to come up with. and what i meant is: how extreme, meaning how FAR music can be pushed to. and this is a Perfect example of it.
so if you really do think this takes under a year to come up with. then i suggest you do as i said. and prove you wrong
@FreezingMo0n If you honestly think this music is pushing any boundaries, I honestly have nothing to say to you. This isn't original there are thousands of Black Metal bands that do the exact same thing. Again nothing the guitar players in this video are doing anything that would require more then a years worth of playing experience.
@Chronshard Yea, I'm sure when people study music in college there is a whole section about the importance of death metal and how it's impact changed the way modern composers write music today. I am sorry I don't think Dissection is the pinnacle of modern music.
@MrUsedBooks You have no buisness listening to REAL music if that is a seriouse question. Fuck off back to your Nu-metal, or what ever the hell passes for a seriouse metal band in your fucked up, cess-pool of a brain.
@MrUsedBooks You must be joking. The rope awaits you! How can you possibly say that dissection is not serious? The lead singer that was also the guitar player commited suicide as a sacrifice to satan, with a satanic bible and a pentagram drawn in blood. He was actually wanting to subject himself to hell. Is that serious enough for you? Every member of this band were out of there fucking mind. They ripped out pages directly from the bible to light up blunts, but they made good music.
@emhass You say that as if he is some sort of a hero for killing himself. You have to be a complete dumb ass to sacrifice yourself to Satan. I don't care how anti-organized religion they are. Their music is a complete joke. It lacks any sort of variation in dynamics and any interesting harmonic, melodic, or rhythmic ideas. The lyrics and vocals speak for themselves. The lyrics have the subject matter of something a 13 year old would write about. There is a huge lack of any musical ideas.
@MrUsedBooks Thats your opinion, but I noticed in your "arguement" you had no back up defense. Its quite clear that I have proved my point that Dissection is obviousley a serious band. By the way, I hope you realise that you know nothing about music. Have you ever heard of Dream Theater? Meshuggah? Death? Dimmu Borgir? Amon Amarth? Dethklok? Scar Symmetry? Children of Bodom? I didn't think so because you're a poser and you know nothing about music. Dissection has more talent then both LW AND LG!
@emhass Just listen to the song. Are there varying dynamics? No. Anything more then simple harmony? No. Anything rhythmically interesting? No, its pretty much the same 4/4 drum beat the whole song. Any interesting melody? No, unless you find tremolo picking 4 notes interesting. These things are not opinions these are facts. An opinion would be basses on personals taste as opposed actual musical ideas. I have heard all of the above bands you have mentioned. What is LW and LG?
@MrUsedBooks Are you mentally retarded? 4/4?!?!?!? Im suprised you're giving THAT arguement, out of all the things that you cold've said.... you fucking came blood from your mouth with that one. None of the guidos poser shit that you listen to such as Little Wang and Lady Gagging on a cock will EVER go beyond 4/4, bands like fucking Messhuggah, Animals as Leaders, and dream theater will go to fucking 5/4, 5/8, 9/8, etc. and simple =/= bad. Just listen to fucking Dimmu Borgir or Pergamum >_>
@emhass@emhass So you throw personal insults at me as your counter argument instead of addressing what I said. I am not saying simple = bad. I am saying this band has nothing going for it. It's song structure is very primitive and utilizes almost nothing musical. Boring = bad and that is what this is, it has nothing going for it. I like how you assume that you know what kind of music I listen to based on my profile. It is even funnier that you thi

For me: Melodic Black/Death.
No matter it's awesome.

If you know what I mean.
cheesecakesocks 1 year ago
Dissection aren't Black Metal. They're just blackened Gothenburg style Death Metal.

spacehead80 1 year ago
@FenderUsa I almost confused them with melody death metal for the longest time but it isnt (I realized it after I couldnt find them in any top ten melody death metal lists). I still have to go with what you say.... black metal.
BF1 11 months ago
@FenderUsa buddy... you forgot the most important site... THE METAL-ARCHIVES !!!! if you had the brains to look in such a place, you would know they were Melodic Death/Black, then after Jon got out of jail they went Melodic Death Metal!!

@MorbidAzagthothDeath honestly i dont give a fuck about genres if the musics good i'll listen to it

@MorbidAzagthothDeath *Melodic Metal of Death*
Is how Jon described it in many interviews , and i would be inclined to agree.
You can even throw in the "Anti-Cosmic" if you feel like it. Dissection is unique like that.

@cheesecakesocks The Somberlain had a lot to do with Black Metal, this album much less, but still enough to call BM. Reinkaos on the other hand...

@cheesecakesocks Only their last album is not BM. BM is a large and varied genre.

MrLuciferion 1 year ago
@cheesecakesocks I have to agree, just listen to the style of drumming, it's more related to Gothemburg, not Black...it has something in common, but it's not pure Black stuff
cancel11111 1 year ago
@cheesecakesocks Who cares? I've heard people make the argument that De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas isn't true black metal because it isn't raw like Live in Leipzig. It's all opinion.

@cheesecakesocks they are the definition of black death. "they are just...." JUST??? you talk about dissection dude, a bit careful what words you use.
spacehead80 1 year ago
@cheesecakesocks the stuff after Jon got out of prison had more a death feel but this song and album is pure Black Metal plain and fucking simple

@cheesecakesocks Melodic Black/Death Metal (early), Melodic Death Metal (later)
MazenGuardian 1 year ago

For me your comment is so far down the path of disconnection from SOUL it makes me sorry for you in the years ahead during which you will encounter feelings in music of all kinds. The feelings of the composers, performers, the mass of feelings that brought these together to create a piece that resonates with many people + becomes a memorable temple on the road of life for millions who do FEEL the vibes of composer, performers, those who enjoy.
sophiah88 1 year ago
@sophiah88 Music itself does not have feelings though. The feelings come from the people that write the music. The only soul that this speaks to is angst ridden teenage males that will eventually grow out of the whole black metal phase in their life.

WTF r u talking about mouth? No one is preventing any 'others' from enjoying any music. Actually I have heard this many times and your attempt to accuse me of some nebulous transgression that lives only in your head says a lot about what minute understanding of what my words conveyed. Turn down your white noise volume.

Chronshard 1 year ago
@Chronshard Yea, I'm sure when people study music in college there is a whole section about the importance of death metal and how it's impact changed the way modern composers write music today. There is nothing going in this this song that can be taken seriously by anyone.
MrUsedBooks 1 year ago
@MrUsedBooks maybe if you took your head out of your fuckin ass, you'd see that Death metal/Black Metal, is a way to show how extreme music can be pushed to. and this is a perfect example of it. they don't teach you shit about Black metal and death metal in college, yeah? your point is?. they still teach you the necessities required to build this kind of music. which can take YEARS. the only thing here that can't be taken seriously is your pussy invalid opinion.
FreezingMo0n 1 year ago
@FreezingMo0n How is an opinion invalid? I have never heard any black metal that requires anyone to play anything that would take more then a year of playing said instrument. If it takes you years to play it it's probably time to start taking lessons. Extreme music pushed to what? You didn't finish your sentence.
MrUsedBooks 1 year ago
@MrUsedBooks If you REALLY think that it takes under a year to come up with this . then i suggest you grab a guitar and make something more Original than this, and Make a video of yourself playing it. you'll see how hard REAL black metal is difficult to come up with. and what i meant is: how extreme, meaning how FAR music can be pushed to. and this is a Perfect example of it.
so if you really do think this takes under a year to come up with. then i suggest you do as i said. and prove you wrong
FreezingMo0n 1 year ago
@FreezingMo0n If you honestly think this music is pushing any boundaries, I honestly have nothing to say to you. This isn't original there are thousands of Black Metal bands that do the exact same thing. Again nothing the guitar players in this video are doing anything that would require more then a years worth of playing experience.
MrUsedBooks 1 year ago
@Chronshard Yea, I'm sure when people study music in college there is a whole section about the importance of death metal and how it's impact changed the way modern composers write music today. I am sorry I don't think Dissection is the pinnacle of modern music.
MrUsedBooks 1 year ago
@MrUsedBooks You have no buisness listening to REAL music if that is a seriouse question. Fuck off back to your Nu-metal, or what ever the hell passes for a seriouse metal band in your fucked up, cess-pool of a brain.
metalklown 1 year ago
@metalklown This is coming from a 21 year old that listens to ICP and wears corpse paint. I thought you would have grown out of that by now.
MrUsedBooks 1 year ago
@MrUsedBooks You must be joking. The rope awaits you! How can you possibly say that dissection is not serious? The lead singer that was also the guitar player commited suicide as a sacrifice to satan, with a satanic bible and a pentagram drawn in blood. He was actually wanting to subject himself to hell. Is that serious enough for you? Every member of this band were out of there fucking mind. They ripped out pages directly from the bible to light up blunts, but they made good music.
emhass 1 year ago
@emhass You say that as if he is some sort of a hero for killing himself. You have to be a complete dumb ass to sacrifice yourself to Satan. I don't care how anti-organized religion they are. Their music is a complete joke. It lacks any sort of variation in dynamics and any interesting harmonic, melodic, or rhythmic ideas. The lyrics and vocals speak for themselves. The lyrics have the subject matter of something a 13 year old would write about. There is a huge lack of any musical ideas.
MrUsedBooks 1 year ago
@MrUsedBooks Thats your opinion, but I noticed in your "arguement" you had no back up defense. Its quite clear that I have proved my point that Dissection is obviousley a serious band. By the way, I hope you realise that you know nothing about music. Have you ever heard of Dream Theater? Meshuggah? Death? Dimmu Borgir? Amon Amarth? Dethklok? Scar Symmetry? Children of Bodom? I didn't think so because you're a poser and you know nothing about music. Dissection has more talent then both LW AND LG!
emhass 1 year ago
@emhass Just listen to the song. Are there varying dynamics? No. Anything more then simple harmony? No. Anything rhythmically interesting? No, its pretty much the same 4/4 drum beat the whole song. Any interesting melody? No, unless you find tremolo picking 4 notes interesting. These things are not opinions these are facts. An opinion would be basses on personals taste as opposed actual musical ideas. I have heard all of the above bands you have mentioned. What is LW and LG?
MrUsedBooks 1 year ago
@MrUsedBooks Are you mentally retarded? 4/4?!?!?!? Im suprised you're giving THAT arguement, out of all the things that you cold've said.... you fucking came blood from your mouth with that one. None of the guidos poser shit that you listen to such as Little Wang and Lady Gagging on a cock will EVER go beyond 4/4, bands like fucking Messhuggah, Animals as Leaders, and dream theater will go to fucking 5/4, 5/8, 9/8, etc. and simple =/= bad. Just listen to fucking Dimmu Borgir or Pergamum >_>
emhass 1 year ago
@emhass @emhass So you throw personal insults at me as your counter argument instead of addressing what I said.
