For my birthday, my husband ordered a black range rover sport in October 2009, it arrived in February 2010. I have the luxury model with the extended leather, and black stitching on ivory seats. My rr sport is incredible. My iPod sounds fantastic. Everything about the vehicle is amazing, except for the mileage. I really feel protected while driving.

I can not see how your statement can be true as there are THREE Range Rovers: Range Rover Sport, the new Range Rover Evoque and (I grant you this is confusing) simply the Range Rover.

Land Rover also has three name plates: Land Rover Defender, Land Rover Freelander and the Land Rover Discovery (known as Land Rover LR4 in some markets)

Go on a Land Rover Experience day and they will show you that the LR Sport is a very capable off-roader. Ice, Wet bogs, Desert, Rocks. The only limitation is on clearance and it is not a good at the other LR for off-roading, but that's not why you particularly choose one of these.

Try it out first, then make a reasoned comment based on fact, not your own misguided opinion.

Reliability is only questioned by the ones who can only dream and therefore default back to the bad days of the mid 90's when that so called "Ultimate driving machine" lot had ownership.

I have had 4 RR's now including a Sport and never had any issues......which is more than I can say for the BMW X5 I also used to own.....now that was a dreadful car!

Ignore the dreamers who probably own non descript Audis etc and buy yourself the ultimate SUV.

This is my dream car. The only thing that is keeping me from buying one is the rumors about Land Rover's terrible reliability. Is the reliability really as bad as the rumors?

I have a positive view but suggest you should speak to some owners on an owners forum - YouTube will only give you love/hate answers from people who have probably never sat in the car. When doing your research have in mind that Range Rover is 40 years old in 2010 ...so be sure people are talking about recent model years.

@jordo5286 accourding consumers reports 2009 reliablity report,the range rover sport is more relieable then a bmw x5,audi q7,mercedes ml&gl(v8 models) and the vw toureg.

@jordo5286 I bought a Hummer H2 in stead of a range rover just because I always had a soft spot for the Hummer and the rumours that the Land Rovers are bad reliability wise. I really like the land rover and I think I will buy a RR after I get tired of the Hummer. The biggest problem if you live in North America is that the parts are expensive for Land Rover! So Hummer is better on a cost stand point. But on the bad reliability note, 95% of land rovers ever made are still on the rode!

I have a Land Rover 90 but 16 years ago i was in a Range Rover...I have to tell you that every Land Rover sooner or later have problem with the clutch. If you intend to do offroad or simply to mantain the car perfectly you have to to a regular mantainance. If you don't care, you can go and go for a lot of Km but when the car has a seriuos problem you are in trouble because you had to spend a lot...

@jordo5286. Yes unfortunately. They're not the most reliable by far. I tell you what If you wan't a fast good looking good offroader thats reliable. The VW Touareg is excellent. It depends where you live. But here in the UK the top engine is a 5.0 V10. My fathers boss is a millionaire. He said the Touareg R50 is so fast that he nearly shit himself. But they're both lush cars. Range Rover and VW Touareg.

@jordo5286 I've had a range rover sport for about 3 years now. It hasn't broken down once, has only been serviced once, and its kept on going. Saying Range Rovers are unreliable is a lie.

Yes BMW owned Land Rover from 1994 to 2000 and invest a lot of money in new engines and vehicles. Suggest you check out Wikipedia if you'd like more details.

Well it depends what you mean. It is designed by Brits, in a British style and with British values and it's built in Britain. However last year ownership moved from American (Ford) to Indian (Tata - a huge company that owns everything from steel makers to chains of luxury hotels)

It's always been british built and still is my friend. The owner or cash injectors so to speak has changed over the years from honda in the 80's to bmw in the late 90's when the cross pollination of tech and reliability was passed over, however bmw sold off the profitable parts of rover, i.e The mini brand, still built in britain and the land rover brand. Ford then sold on the brand to tata.
