@DiscoverRussia he wanted to be american and he literally prevented nuclear war...giving america info on soviets ambitions and there power helped ALOT...with out penkovsky there wouldnt be a cuban missile crisis...we would be dead.
@CrazyForCooCooPuffs Yes, that is how we remember it. My late aunt told me that Penkovsky hated communism and this was one of the motives for him providing us with the information.
"I know that his body was cremated" said Alexandr Zagvozdin. He wouldn't elucidate further on the matter. However, another GRU agent who defected has. He went by the pseudonym of Viktor Suvorov and in his book: "INSIDE THE AQUARIUM", he wrote that he was made to watch how people in the GRU are cremated either dead or alive. He saw Penkovsky's body put on a plank and his extremities tied by a piano wire as he was put on the rollers that transported him into a giant furnace, alive.
@JoanWasQuizzical1 yes. And yes again. We have read at least ten Soviet newpapers ever since the Bolshevik Revolution. We knew people who have escaped from the Iron Curtain and they also say: "DA". The Soviet exchange students we have entertained also agreed with my family, the NTS members. My uncle, Vladimir Poremsky, founded Radio Free Europe, Radio Free Russia, and Radio Liberte. Thank you.
@JoanWasQuizzical1 Joan: I would have to ask my father who was an NTS member. My other maternal uncle besides Dr. Vladimir Poremsky was Seraphim Pavlovich Rojdestvensky, a White Russian warrior under the command of Admiral Kolchak. He spent five years in Sachsenhausen for being outspoken. He was one of my favorite uncles. He was my godfather. I appreciate you telling me "NYET" even though the GRU agent and author of INSIDE THE AQUARIUM said "DA". I love skepticism and critical thinking.Thanks.
@JoanWasQuizzical1 My apologies for not replying to you any sooner. To answer your question about George Urban, I will have to ask my folks were in contact with many of them. When I get the answer, I'll let you know. Thank you.

@Nguli34689 Interesting, did your Uncle know George Urban? VOA. *Think that's how you spell his name.
But my "Nyet" was about the manner in which P. died.
