In the 19th Century, Buffalo outnumbered people on this continent. Over the Earth as a whole, buffalo outweighed humanity. Back before the gun and the horse, the Blackfoot - and the other great Nations of the Plains and the Prairies - learned how to live with, and from, the buffalo. In their quest to perfect the hunt, they created a technique which lives on today, more than 6,000 years later.
They searched out the many low ridges and sudden sinkholes that broke the Prairies and the Plains, looking for one with just the right characteristics - cliffs just low enough to be invisible to the buffalo when in flight... but just high enough to break their legs if they fell. Were pushed. "Jumped."
When I was nine I was in a mall, loving myself some U2, watching buffalo run with this in the background. Then I got totally used to the other video and eventually forgot this version entirely. A week ago, I heard this song in the supermarket, thought of buffalo running, and thought, "What the hell is wrong with me? Why does this song make me think of buffalo running?" I just watched this and had a weird flashback to a Macy's somewhere in CT 19 years ago. Thank you, YouTube.
@starfaery this may come as a shock to you, but the natives of N. America sometimes would drive herds of buffalo off a cliff in order to hunt them. Do a google search on "Buffalo Jump"
@willowhann good to hear the original bono,s live versions of this are poor ,he seems to cut corners in the notes of the song which basically made the song so great in the first place ......such a shame...but what a song!!!!!!
This is total magic, coming from an age when most music videos are shameless, superficial, and obscene I so appreciate the artistry of this. You don't find too many other creatures more mystical and mysterious than the buffalo. Too bad it was only aired on MTV once...or maybe it was a few times, but this is one of those things that will always be underrated and underappreciated.

Why this is not as best comment????

@TakeAShowerStinky This version and the Berlin version are golden. The one of Bono sitting in some pub sucks.

@starfaery They aren't killing themselves. Some Indian tribes hunted buffalo by cornering a few buffalo until they went over a cliff edge.

In my opinion this is the most beautiful music of U2, Bono and the interpretation is visceral, perfect, wonderful!
