I really like how you can hear the snare drum part in this song, I love it because I can practice this on snare with out my music. and that I have my hole peaice memorized. This song is SUPER DUPER FUN. :) I'm glad Im playing snare on this song in my band. very nice job hennery
All hail Eastman & Fennell. My HS band worked on this every year; never got it good enough to perform. Fillmore loved trombones, but not trombone players.
I'd really love to play this song next year for my band festival. This year, my band played "Rolling Thunder," and we did really well. Henry Fillmore is a great composer and I love his music!
@ScienceGamesMusicGod We were rehearsing the fight song in my band class a few months ago to record it. My director was like "trombones, can you give us five percent more?" We played it again and they pretty much rendered everyone in the room temporarily deaf. Trombones with true musicality are kind of like wild okapi- we know they exist, but few have seen them...
@Altoclarinets my bad clicked that by mistake and apparently you can't undo that... sorry. But, anyway I believe that the trombone takes a lot of control to be able to play at this level of speed and technicality, especially for a high schooler. I mean I could back in high school, but then again I had insane attributes for a trombone player in high school. You should look up my old trombone solo called Glen Eden on youtube, (only trumpet found). I played it a lot faster though...
I remember I played this up at Idyllwild one summer, under Dave Evans. We hammered the whole thing out in 40 seconds, taking all repeats and the coda. It was epic!
we have to play this in my school band for the great east festival this year. trumpet 1 is satan. haha ;] we just started playing it today so it seems really hard
Try to learn double tounging... Tried it last year, now it's perfected.... Though some say it's not supposed to be done on a saxophone and that it produces a bad sound... Listen to Rudy Wiecroft.... or waste your time and learn to single tounge really fast....
clown no. they scare the shit out of me for some reason. it just makes me feel like i accomplished something. especially at 1:22 with the trombone solo
i just got finished performing this in the all-virginia conert band. and damn the tuba part at 38 when they have the melody is insane but then again so is the whole entire peice.

Its a circus march if played fast and accurate like Fennell and eastmen and my hs did then its fine. Faster doesn't mess up articulation sloppy playing
@j077yr0g3r Well said! As a high school band director now retired, I might ad that to play this or any of those wonderful old circus marches as well as the Eastman group or say the US Marine Corps Band I seriously doubt you played it as well and with correct intonation and articulation. Just be glad your directors pushed you hard enough to even get through a piece of this stature!

I got to conduct this song my senior year of high school! I think I would have rather been playing! :)

This recording really doesn't sound as old as Fennell's recordings...he stopped conducting the Eastman Wind Ensemble in 1962.

I can now play this perfectly...seeing as I had it for half a year and practiced it alot XD

My conductor used to take it in 1 after the trio. He did that with almost all marches, Fennell, Fillmore, King, etc...

Way to sound like a kid with no respect for real musicianship. You probably have no idea who Fennell is or what he has done for American wind music.
