  • high school prostitutes...nice.

  • Sorry, forgot to add that the movements were completely unmotivated and lacked stage presence. That is all!

  • wow...just...no, this was a big no no. The acting style was off for the characters, and the song was sloppy and off key. The Dance is supposed to be rigid and look completely awkward and uncomfortable (Bob Fossey), it looked lazy and not very well researched. Secondly, the hostesses are supposed to be sexy, but extremely bored. They don't give a shit if they look exciting or not, they just want the money and that's it. This was just...no words...no words...

  • I'm sure all of the dads in the audience were so proud that their high-school-aged daughters were portraying a bunch of prostitutes in a whorehouse.

  • No offense, but our version is way better.

  • @savenameslast No offense, but I don't care.

  • OMG. So off key.

  • @TheNicholasRodriguez

    It's supposed to be off key. Well - maybe not as much as these poor girls did it though. ;-}

  • @leojrevlis No song ever written is "meant to be off key" That was actually so stupid of you. Your comment made absolutely no sense.

  • @Nf9456 Okay - I meant - the characters purposely sang it sour, like out of correct pitch. But, you called me "stupid," so I've just clicked on the "block user" button. Too bad - - you're gone - - good-bye!

  • it's not bad actually...it was better than my high school's version...the pitch is off at times...but the confidence is there and it turned out really good

  • veryyyyyyyyyyyy veryyyyyyyyyyyy goodddddddd!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOLOLOL

  • the choreography is great. very similar to the original. excellent

  • @leojrevlis

your number doesn't have any life, it's just a bunch of girls saying a song, they don't sing or dance with passion or at least life

  • @armandofarras I'm not defending this number.. BTW - it's not "mine." I think it's pretty lame too. But, these bored dance-hall girls are supposed to be apathetic: night after night the same-old, same-old crap.. They're selling dances [and whatever] to profit their boss. They are in a hopeless rut. The show is about one girl's attempt to "get out," but in the end.. she fails.

  • @armandofarras They don't have a life, no less passion. That's the point of their lethargic behavior.

  • A classic example on how to destroy a beatiful number.

    If I had a gun I shot the f***** choreographer (?)

  • @sanchimiliano

Yes, I've seen this "classic example" written about in so many textbooks.

    ;-}

  • @sanchimiliano Also, shoot your f$%k%&g 4th grade teacher for not instructing you on how to correctly spell "beautiful."

  • i busted out laughin when she said "laughs."

  • good but please .. learn singin!!!!

  • eeeeeee.

    beginning was boring.

  • WRONG - whole thing was boring!

  • some girls voices ws cracking sound more like yelling when she said HEY BIG SPENDER.. but over all it was good. they should have had a guy that they were singing to.. tho.. would have looked alot better...

  • That was pretty good....

  • sooooo off key. yikes.

  • I don't get how this is supposed to be funny?

  • no they are actually "taxi dancers"

  • this did copy every move form sweet charity, which are the same moves from "fosse" the musical. it was alright, this number was supposed to be funny, the audience laughed once

like in the beginning, a girl says "lets have some fun" in a seductive way, which is actually supposed to be very blatant, it should not have had any tone to it. this song is very blunt, i feel that the girls here did not perform it well...

  • so off key

  • its good but itw ould have been better if they hadnt copied fosse the musical exactly. would have been nice to make the movments n vocals there own a bit.

  • Hmmm.. interesting comment about copying?

    Fosse the Musical - 2002

    THIS clip - 2000

  • um the film version of Sweet Charity was made in 1969. the DVD release of the film was in 2002. this high school production copied every move from the film exactly...

  • No! The reference for this dance was a clip from The Tonight Show [Leno], where the cast from the musical, "Fosse" performed Big Spender. Now, if THAT choreography was copied it from the movie.. then I guess that THIS clip would look like the film too, right?

  • Repeating what I wrote to "jleider21"..

"The reference for this dance was a clip from The Tonight Show [Leno], where the cast from the musical, "Fosse" performed Big Spender. Now, if THAT choreography was copied it from the movie.. then I guess that THIS clip would look like the film too, right?"

  • yes. yes it would. the cast from the musical "Fosse" aimed to reproduce Fosse's original choreography. So if this cast based its choreography off of the the cast of "Fosse," well then it makes perfect sense. there's nothing wrong with that, fosse's original choreography is innovative and worth replicating. i'm just saying that it's not original and is "copying" in every sense of the word. no worries.

  • Charity did very well, almost as well as the Charity in my community theatre production - which is saying a LOT. I personally did not like this number because of the casting of Nickie. Helene did a bit better, but I feel that those two roles probably should have been cast with strong character actors/singers if they were available. And I was wondering if your videos are all shot at the same school. If so, does it happen to be a performing arts school?

  • though the girl who played charity did very well

  • ok i am going to be straight with the girls in this performance. I thought this was absolutely horrible, i can't even listen to it all the way through. now it is not all of them, mostly just the girls who play nickie and helene. for one, the choreography is so unoriginal. second, half of the time nickie and helene were singing off key, even when other girls would join in, and i hated how they sang at the beginning. they did a horrible job casting those two roles. other girls: good job

  • it's pretty good for a high school play

  • no its not

  • This is fabulous. Are you girls from New York?

Because, I hear a little bit of an accent.

But that may just be put on for the show, since that's where it's set.

  • basically used fosse's choreography

    not bad

  • This Is Exactly Like Fosse.

    I Love It.

    Great Job.

  • i can see the influnce from the production of fossie same everything, good, lol if my old middls school teacher was a HS teacher he would do this, good job.

  • great job for being high school. bu im shocked to see highschools performing this musical ...

  • haha, my high school is doing this show in a month.....i am in crew..yey

and this song is starting to get on my nerves..everytime i see the rehersal ,they are doing "big spender"...XD

  • High school - not bad ... not bad at all!

  • I think this show is a little adult (what with the hookers and all) for HS...but actually you handled this very well! Great performance!

  • nevermind :)

  • is this columbus high school?

    :)

  • that dance looks oddly familiar...OH YEAH!

it's exactly like the movie! =D

wow...your high school certainly knows about the word origonality!

  • Hey poisonedarteries, your school certainly didn't teach you how to spell.

  • reelly? which word did i spel rong?

r u goin to pul a spelin or grammer insult on meh? cuz thats just meen.

    sowy 4 makin a criteek.

it's not like you never made one before on YOUTUBE, might I add.

    ;)

  • This was def. a high school performance... and as a fairly experienced student director, the actresses could have brought more to their characters, and the choreography should have been "inspired" not cut from the original show...

But all in all not to bad. For HS.

  • I'm SOOO glad that you added the final "But..." line. It makes ALL the difference, even though "For HS" is not a complete sentence! Any "fairly experienced student director" knows the importance of being consistent, yet you chose to abbreviate "definite," but not any other long words in your text. Hmmm.... yes - I'm VERY crazy..

BTW - I AGREE, I didn't especially like this performance either!!!!! I thought the girls could have delivered their lines with more "style." They WERE SO "high school"!

  • :) Abbreviating definite is a horrible habit I picked up in High School, I didn't even realise I'd done it.

For HS is thrown in as an after thought because I often type how I speak. Another horrible habit I'm afraid.

I'm glad you commented on them however because that is the only way for me to make changes.

P.S I'm glad you got the point of my comment as opposed to thinking it too harsh.

  • ahaha agreed.

  • maybe it was a man

theres usually a male fandango dancer in drag

  • the chick saying he's so tall sounds like a man.. =/ the chick in the movie did it so perfect. if the point was that they were so bored, as you put it, i think the point of putting that line at the end the way it was put was that it was supposed to be charicaturistic. like she gave the less fuck out of everyone. that was the best line, and that chick ruined it with her man voice and by adding lines. whatev. just agreeing with laughable1

    manly ass females...

  • She didn't add lines, that's how it is in the stage libretto..."you're so tall, you must be 6'4"..."

In the film and in Fosse they say "oooh you're so tall" but that girl isn't adding any lines in this instance.

  • this whole dance was copied from the movie.

  • duh! their not supposed to make it up on their own....

  • Yeah they are...That's kinda the point of doing a show.

  • AWOMSE!!! GOOD JOB!!!

  • i actually thought this was pretty good.

i wish i knew more of the story line to this show because i have to sing this song for an audition. anybody know of anymore clips?

  • The best thing to do is to rent the movie. It is "fairly" close to the action of the B'way show, just a little "watered-down." You'll get the story-line, NO PROBLEM.

    "Big Spender" has been sung by many performers, in many different ways. The song "works" no matter which style you choose!! GOOD LUCK with your audition. ;-}

  • yeah i think i will rent it.

    thank you :)

and thanks so much for posting.

  • I assume you go to this highschool since you posted this (why would you post someting from a random highschool...thats kinda creepy), and you seem to be pretty defensive. and i know that they're supposed to sound bored...but if you've ever seen it on broadway or even the movie, you can see that although they say it in a bored way, at least they say it with some confidence and charisma. but then again, this is only a highschool, you can't really expect a great performance.

  • Well, ya caught me... I DID go to this HS.. 38 years ago!

I'm in agreement with you - these girls could use some sensuality.. I thought so in 2000 [the year of the show] and I still think it now [when viewing the clip].

However, please don't pull the "what do you expect from a HS?" crap. The stars-of-tomorrow come from these HSs.

Yes, I get defensive when a comment is constructed such as yours [assuming that you're also the user - "Laughable1"] with the "umm, geez, wow,& sorry."

  • umm what kind of highschool do you go to?! geez! and wow...sorry but when the girls were walking forward and saying like "do you speak french" and "oh you must be so tall"..every girl sounded so...not for the role, idk. the singing was a little better though.

  • "umm" - MY high school has nothing to do with this high school. Why do you assume that I go to this one?

"sorry" - I'm not making excuses for the line delivery, but the hookers' characters are supposed to be bored, basically not giving a shit about their hourly "Johns." They're trapped in a "nowhere" job, and their attitudes reflect it!

    Thanks for the comment! ;-}

  • They're not hookers.

    The characters are taxi dancers.

    They dance for money.

    Not have sex for money.

  • "pop my cork"??

yeah im pretty sure they are prostitutes...

  • what kinda whore-tastic schoold id u go to?

  • Just wondering - is "whore-tastic" a good thing or a bad thing? AND - what difference does it matter which school that I went to? How does my Alma-mater affect THIS school's show?

  • as a director...really good choreography...but it looks soo much like the movie...but i found at some points the notes were a tad flat

  • What do the two "but"s in your comment mean? Do you think less of the performances because you think it looks like the movie [which is doesn't, BTW]. And we all have ears, BUT thanks for alerting us to the tad-flat notes!

  • Good show I have enjoyed it

  • im doin rythem of life at my drama school i diddnt know this song was in this show i herd this song but not of the musical

  • This is good! Very whore-tastic!

  • So? . . Just kidding - HAVE FUN!

  • Yay!! I hope that the cast and crew had fun.

  • the dancing is really good - everything would be great if only that girl who is one of the lead singers could actually sing

  • charity is terrible and has no character ,nickie and helene look grosse and cant sing and orchestra sounds TERRIBLE...disgrace to neil simon and bob fosse

  • Although this is NOT my favorite clip from this HS's production I don't think that it's "terrible," nor does it "disgrace" Simon & Fosse. Nickie is now a Radio City Rockette, so I guess dancing is her niche. Charity has just released a vocal CD. I don't know what-the-hell Helene is doing now!!

  • I just tried to access your "channel-video-page" but it's closed, probably for GOOD reason! Too bad, because I wanted to read ALL about you, and view your "favorite" clips, as sick as they might be.

  • this is actually pretty good...the nickie and helene aren't super great though..but still really really good.

  • charity is terrible

  • Thanks for sharing! She stinks because???????????

  • Your profile says that you're 31 years old. I'd expect a more responsible comment from someone your age! Wait!! - All your clips are chock-full of teeny-boppers. I guess that you should update with your correct age!

  • this was really good. im so excited my school is doing this show in the spring =D

  • this is ABSOLUTELY fantastic!!!

  • How were you able to do this show? My school would have NEVER allowed this! I am positively jealous!

    PS-That was fantastic!

  • playing nickie in this.

  • It was great, but the introduction to the girls (the talking bit in the beginning) was disapointing. It went too slowly, I think. But the rest DEFF. made up for it. It was amazing. PS, the girl who says 'hey, fella, wanna dance?'...her hair is out of control!

  • One of the revivals, I think the one with Debbie Allen, had the tempo the way you see it here. I gives it a little more "slimy" feel. Hair!! That's hair? I thought a vulture was nesting on her head.

  • congrats! very good performance (: we're doing this at school in november

  • GREAT!! have a good time! Where?

  • GREAT!! have a good time! Where?

  • GREAT!! have a good time! Where?

  • our school is doing this right now

  • Yippee! Have fun!!

  • Dance-10(It genuinley was fantastic)

Song-6('Spender' was consistantly flat, blending was a bit of an issue, but for the most part was good)

Acting-4(Accents needed work and were never consistent, faces were alright.)

Sets-10(As usual, your sets never fail too amaze me!)

  • that was actually pretty much amazing.

    great performance!

  • finally a school who stuck to the original choreography! nice dancing!

  • I would have totally worked on my crappy voice if I could have done this in HS. This is really great.

  • Great performance!

  • One of my favorite musicals.. and my favorite song from the musical! awesome job!

  • your allowed to do this musical in hs

  • Obviously!

It's a "standard." This clip just happens to be the sexiest. See the other 2 charity clips.. much less flesh, and dancing boys. What more could you ask for?

  • Wow you must of went to a pretty liberal schhol if they allowed u to do "Sweet Charity" & "Caberet"! U do know in the original Italian version (Il notte di Calbria) she was a prostitute.

  • Of course!! She's still a whore in this musical, but a very likable slut!

  • It's "Le Notti di Cabiria/Nights of Cabira" by Federico Fellini- 1957. Have you ever seen the film version of "Sweet Charity"?

  • Yes, Cabiria. And yes, of course I've watched the movie, Sweet Charity... AND I've also viewed the "alternate" happy ending [where Oscar comes running back] which was filmed but thankfully not used!

  • yeah my high school did this my freshman year. guess who i was

  • victorio?

  • Or maybe Vittorio?
