I just want to say that I agree with you completely. As Christians we're supposed to love our enemies and pray for them, but muslims are supposed to hate their enemies and murder them. In the old testament of the bible there are comparable passages to the quran, permitting violence against other unbelieving tribes, but you will not see this in the new testament of the Christians.

I just want to say that I agree with you completely. As Christians we're supposed to love our enemies and pray for them, but muslims are supposed to hate their enemies and murder them. How can both these holy books, the Bible and the Quran, be inspired by the same god? They can't - one is not of God. Not Muslim but I do believe that Islam much like all Abrahamic religions (inclusive of Christianity and Judaism) can be really really offensive in terms of what they say can be done to non-believers. As someone who's outside of these religions but grew up in countries where they were the dominant religion - I can safely say that they're all the same. Christianity is no more a religion of peace then Islam is. Unless your an athiest you have no real moral high ground -signed an atheist.

Well, first, it's not my religion, and, second, when I consider an idea, or a book, or a religion, I consider only what the inventor of the idea said. Jusus, Buddah, Mohammed, these are the ones that started the doctrines.
And they have said all was to be said. All the 'experts' after them are not part of the doctrine or the religion.

Ralyy- Ok, well you should know that modern translations of the Quran are notorious for using soft language that does not accurately represent the true meaning of the text.
This is why you should go to the Tafsir to understand the Quran. Even native Arabic speakers defer to the Tafsir in understanding the text.
The Quran is not in modern Arabic, and it takes DECADES of study for an Arabic speaker to be able to read it directly without aid. Even then they usually defer to the Tafsir.

I will be trusting what one of the most authoritative scholars of the Quran says about an Ayah over you, sorry. This man's Tafsir is the basis for the rulings of Imams in all of Islam, and governs Quranic thought throughout Islam.

The "war" you're talking about is not a physical one. This text is also about God (Allah) punishing them in the afterlife.
And, yes, they wanted to spread their religion. This doesn't mean Allah tells them to kill. Spread. Kill. See the difference?
Of course, if you're a sultan, you would want to conquer the other countries by force, and , yes, you would say that it's God's wish. But that's not what the Qur'an teaches.

This idea that Jihad is an inner struggle is a myth. Jihad, from the root verb 'jahada' holds the semantic domain of both inner struggle and outward fighting (in armed conflict if neccessary).

About my information:
I have a friend who was very interested in Arabic culture. He studied this culture and now teaches Arabic at a university. Although he didn't start praying 5 times a day, he considered the Qur'an and the ideas in it. I know other muslims and I gurantee-they're not 'evil'
And also, my common sense. It's really neive to think that evil is in the root of a religion. Religion is a way of life. Do you think that any serious doctrine would teach you to be evil?

I don't agree. There is no evil religion. There are evil people. There are people who misuse their power and people who mislead others to their advantage. Jesus wasn't guilty for all the atricities done in his name, and neither was Mohammed. There will always be people misinterpreting the teachings and causing disasters. But those people have nothing to do with the religion.

And Jihad is a symbolic war, it is the right of the sultan to declare Juhad when he feels that the religion is at stake, like when the Cruseders are invading the country. And according to Jihad, when a Holy war is declared (a war to defend the religion from those who endanger it), it's the Muslim's duty to respond to his sultan's plea.
Just as it's every Bulgarian/American/Japanease's duty to fight for their country when it needs it.

Qur'an's translations are not holy because when translated the meaning is altered. And if you translate it to modern languages you may lose the main idea. However, even the roughest translation of it does not say "make war on the infidels"..This was reproduced by someone who wanted to make this impression.
I am not a muslim, but I know what this verse is about. It's about fighting the 'disbelievers', word confused for 'disbeliefs'. Pretty much like fighting the sins or temptations. Not people

well, acconding to islam the Qur'an is holy, but only as written in arabic. If you have a Qur'an in english at home, it's not holy. And the reason for this is precisely because translations can cause many misinterpretations.
If you use some of the online translators, for example, and translate "Let go of me" in Korean, and then thanslate it back (into English) you get: "I am allotted. Go!".
And if you're dealing with an important matter, like religion, misconstruction can pervert the idea.

And I also said that the Qur'an can't be translated. That's why all the muslims cite it in arabic only. If you want to become a muslim and see what the Qur'an REALLY says, learn arabic. Sorry that I can't do that for you. I don't intend to be converted.

The Quran is NOT written in Arabic. It is written in Quraysh dialect. This is why 99.9% of people who are fluent in Arabic cannot understand the Quran without the Tafsir.

Ibn Kathir is one of the most respected scholars EVER in the history of Islam. Imams base their rulings on his interpretations. Muslims follow the ruling of Imams. It IS the religion not just an exegesis. You cannot understand the Quran without the Tafsir.
You can't be a good Muslim without accepting the authoritative commentary of the Tafsir. Ibn Kathir is not comparable to the Pope.
