Hi Jerry, I have been friends with Suzanne for nearly 30 years and we have both struggled on and off to get our projects completed. I am happy for her success with the play and the attention it is getting. Maybe it will help me get the funds I need to edit and complete my film. Thanks for the comment.
Hi thanks for your comments on McCullers. I have worked on it for 16 years and hope to have it finished by the time of her birthday next February. I have been sideline from time to time by illness but raising funds has been the biggest hurdle. I have enough material to finish the film now I just need to edit and voiceover and the mastering and it will be done. Thanks again, I will keep everyone posted
C McC is one of my favorite writers ever and I have always wanted to hear her voice or see some kind of legacy film recording of her; thanks for posting this.
She's a underrated literary genius, I feel that more people such take a look at what Carson McCullers has done. Almost everyone I know has no idea who she is. I was named after her partly (My mom loves writers from Georgia and she loved the name Carson). I just started The Heart is a Lonely Hunter and I cannot put it down, I love it. I'm also named after Carson City in Nevada. Strange isn't it?
Wow! conqratulations! Im a big fan of carson since i was a little qirl, but its quite difficult qet er work in spanish... ill wait for the picture whit all my eaqer heart... Adelante Dan!
I am hoping to have the equipment to finish the film in a few months and I will use a lot more of the great onstage conversation between Carson and Tennessee Williams. She said she couldn't find her glasses so he did her readings but she had about an hour of semi drunken conversation with him and the audience about her work. Hilarious - she had a great sense of humor. Who would have guessed it?
Hi Dan. There are a couple of things you can probably get for free that has Carson reading from her work. MGM put out an LP of readings and there is an interview she did in England.
Where is this more we are waiting for? When I was 11 I was having a very hard time understanding what this anxiety and this sad yearning in me meant and my dad gave me a copy of "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" and i was spellbound and have been ever since.
Hi and thanks for the comment. I am trying my best to raise the money for a Sony DSR 11 machine so I can transfer all my mini DV and DVcam tapes of the McCullers interviews and shots to a hard drive. Getting financing for anything worthwhile these days is almost impossible - even if it is not that much money. Keep checking back - maybe soon!
Hi and thanks for watching. The audio clip is from a 1954 reading at the 92nd St Y in NYC. Carson and Tennessee Williams were both quite drunk and had an unusually good time discussing her work and a hilarious Q & A with the audience afterward. Reportedly, according to Carson's cousin Jordan Massee, Truman Capote was in the audience which is why Carson wanted Tennessee to read from A Tree, A Rock, A Cloud. Keep checking back, I am editing some more interview clips to post this week.
Thanks for watching Purdue, I hope to have a tighter trailer up soon and more interview excepts from Edward Albee, Arhur Miller and more. If you get the chance, read Reflections In A Golden Eye, her second book.
I would love to see a documentary on Carson McCullers. I'm familiar with her work and life; I've read two biographies of her and three of her books. I find her a facinating but monstrous character. I come from a crazy Southern family and felt different and isolated growing up so I can identify with her to some extent, but found her ego and self-absorption revolting. I'm looking forward to your finished film. I'd never heard her voice before; thanks for putting this up.

I'd kill to see this film. Her voice is so interesting. I have that record of her reading her work and it's amazing and haunting.

I have been a fan since around 1978 and this is the first time I ever heard her voice. I feel sad now and miss her.
