  • A-freaking-men :)

Live your life in whatever brings you peace and harmony; be it sports cars or toy soldiers, symphonies or fart jokes. Live in the moment, and love every second [if ya can].

Well said, sir. Have a lovely day :)

  • You have a great point dude. My mom thinks that my enjoyment of the Sonic series is very unusual for someone my age. Even when I'm (hopefully) married and have kids, I will still be a huge video game fan.

  • @sonichockeyaug

    Well put!

  • when ppl tell you wat to do.&you go to do so..is when your truly losing everything that you are & you ever where meant to be..to hell with all those souless ppl

  • @GothicXlightning

    Agreed

  • You're never too old to have a second childhood. Live with that attitude and you'll have fun.

  • It's funny because what do "mature" adults spend their disposable income on.Why on furniture, electronics and such. They replace furniture, phones, and televisions on a yearly basis.I finally bought a new ipod because my ipod mini stopped working and am about to replace my phone because it does not respond all the time and cannot hold a charge. And somehow that is immature.Think about all the people you know that consider your hobbies childish and think about what they buy.Funny isnt it?

  • @oblivion966

You know I hadn't thought of it like that, good point!

  • I'm 16 and I recently had a situation like this. I'll make a video response to this vid :)

  • You don't have to "grow up." I think as long as you are being responsible as you clearly are then there isn't a need for it. I think there is a difference between actually growing up and being responsible.

  • What's worse than being told to grow up is being called an Adult. As in "You're an adult now..." so you should ACT LIKE ME! It's such a condescending and impersonal phrase that fundamentally devalues the qualities of the person in question. Imagine being told "You can do it!" Now tack on "...because you're an adult now." Didn't those words just ruin everything?

  • i've heard that alot over the years that i need too grow up like u said they never tell you why u have too, no need too act like a grown up all the time u can't have fun like that

  • @DarknessGotham1

    Agreed

  • you don't need to grow up!

  • @paulspydar

    Thanks man!

  • I've been lucky enough not to suffer this - when my mates / family come round, you can guaranDAMNtee that I will get requests for more retro games than ps3/360... in fact, my 360 hasn;t been turned on for roughly 5 months...

  • @bsg7

Epic family you have there mate

  • Oh WOW this video hit the nail on the head. Honestly people who are able to enjoy the simple things in life are more mature then the stuffy "adults" who toss away any enjoyment they once had just because they reach a certain age. I love movies, video games and all sorts of things. Who say's you can't enjoy the same music you did when you were younger, or the same video games or whatever. Personally if someone acted rude like that to me, I would not keep them around as a friend.

  • @MrZombieIsHungry

    Thanks mate

  • highgiene76 turn me on to u real talk u speaking there if people only knew how much money went in to out collections they would shut u check out my collectors addiction video keep it up man

  • @4thecollectors27

    Thanks man

  • excellent video. my feelings exactly. maturity does not equal boring. it does not equal ticking the boxes of certain sociological norms.

people who say grow up have forgotten how to have fun and how to be an individual. if i was religious i would pray for them. ; )

  • @shenmueso

    Thanks man

  • Judgin by this video, you are way more mature than those dumb fucks that you have to deal with.

  • @mikeelman

    Thank you sir!

  • Judging a person does not define who they are. It defines who you are.

  • @SuperBadboybamford

    Great observation

  • Double whammy combo! LOL! I agree that their arguments are lacking a little errm thoughtful analysis, but then they should just STFU and perhaps think about revisiting something that gave them joy earlier in their life?

  • For some reason society views guys like us (I am 40 but look mid 20s) as being taboo. Many people just do not know how to approach us and instead go for the cheap shot of laughing or ridiculing us. I do not give a damn though and will always be genuinely young in mind if not always body! I do not have to follow societies hang up with being a certain way at a certain age. There is this thing about having to fit in at all times, well sorry no....I do what I like and I harm nobody doing it!

  • @EgoShredder

Good points, I don't plan on changing either and its good to see that everyone here in these comments agrees as well!

  • that's the way it should be, take care of the serious stuff and then what ever makes you happy it shouldn't matter :)

  • @AUTOCONS1

    Thanks man

  • right on man.

  • @pookninja3

    Thank you sir!

  • Yeah,

as long as you take care of your business as an adult.

    Support yourself and whatnot.

Why should anybody give a fuck what you do with your spare time>

As long as it's not hurting anybody why should they care?

I catch alot of shit from one of my friends aswell for collecting figures and reading comics.

But he fills his free time with drugs and being a piece of shit in general.

Do what makes you happy.Life to short to concern yourself with the way other think you should or shouldn't be doing

  • @Skeletonwitharaygun

With WHAT others think you should/shouldn't be doing...damn it. lol

  • @Skeletonwitharaygun

Thanks man and great point about your friend, if what I do i immature its still more positive than taking drugs!

  • @octaquan

Hhhhmmmm Raliegh Vectar, I freaking loved that bike!

  • someone wise once told me "grown old is mandatory, growing up is optional."

  • Amen to that I hear that as well from people but if it is something I enjoy and it keeps me out of trouble then it is a good thing to have that hobby!

  • i can totally relate man, i really enjoy my hobby collecting and playing retro games amongst other things. Normally people say the same things to me, but what i dont get is that im an adult just like you, im responsible, have a job pay everyhting and am there when people need me. Just cos i still enjoy things that i used when i was a kid does not mean that i still am one...only at heart. Anyway if you take life too seriously then you'll never have fun, stick with what makes you happy.

  • @e1doller

Amen about the point you say about taking life too seriously! ;0)

  • I know how you feel my friend My grandmaw and sister give me shit all the time about my toys and games and comics. My grandmaw even called me a sick bastard one time and I have a wife and 3 kids. my wife likes it that Im a man child so I agree with you man live your life the way you want to. Great topic and great vid I really enjoyed it

    Take caremy friend

  • @75bp

    Thanks man

  • my dad answered this question for me, he said. when you get older, you get new interests and leave the old ones behind. say, now, most people would just go with xbox or PS3 or Wii or 3DS, not with like an original gmaeboy and play pokemon, you get older and find older stuff fun but childish. yes it brings back memories, but its just age appropiate things and this kinda time

  • @97Retrogamenerd

See if I had to make a choice and pick an era of systems to go with, I would take old school and not current gen. I just like games that aren't all flash and in your face and leave a little to your imagination. Thanks for the comment mate!

  • Good question Dave, I'm slamming near 40 and I still act like a kid at heart. Granted I can be a huge jackass at times but it's what keeps me happy and fuck what others tell me, my wife has accepted it but I also respect her on how I act around her too ya know what I mean mate?

It's one of my qualities I guess some people like cause I never act too serious but also know what's going on around me.

  • @OldSchoolNYCGamer: I just watched that Steve Martin / Jack Black movie called The Big Year about bird watching, and it seems like people always find something about to criticize other people's interests. It made me think of this thread. When other people aren't interested in another's passion in life, the immediate response is "why???"

  • @OldSchoolNYCGamer

As ong as your responsible, your entitled to still act like a child, I say! :0)

  • fab vid! exactly how I feel! I'm 61 in a few months, eccentric, play Fallout 3, Oblivion, Zelda, Skyrim, Splinter Cell, Tomb Raider, Hitman, etc., ad infinitum! I will NEVER grow up. My mum was childlike (note: not childish), she died at 95, a full life, a strong woman. Go all of us young uns, no matter what age!! I never want to be anyone else. Thanks for the conversation, and all the great comments.. stay young :)

  • @riteasrain

    Amen!

  • iam almost 45,i have 4 kids and a wife, and still play skyrim every night, and zelda oot at the weekends with my son,and dont give a shit what people think, gaming is better than getting twated ?

  • @N64zoot

    Great point!

  • Grow up!!!! never, I don't want to become a little old lady in a lavender coat and a bad perm. My hobbies keep me young.

  • @kazxena

    Amen

  • I am 41 and can act like a 14 year old at times. Like I tell my friends and family...growing OLD is mandatory...Growing UP...is optional!

  • @mrcinemajunky

My new fav phrase right there! ;0)

  • I'd have no personality if I grew up! What else would I do with myself!

  • @lakepalmer

    Ha Ha

  • So would your friend/relation regard visiting a museum as 'childish'? Isn't the stuff in there generally *far* older than an Atari 2600? "Nah, it's old, so it automatically sucks." I don't think *you're* the one who needs to grow up here, LBP1975...

  • @Hindleyak

Thats a very good point my friend!

  • You summed it up perfectly, what harm does it do? Life doesn't need to be serious all the time, take comfort in the good things in life while it's there! Great video Dave!

  • @iCrytex

    Thanks man!

  • nah man you never need to grow up, just look at peter pan he was fine and he never did. We need to look at our past to appreciate the things we have now

  • @dragonps

Epic statement there Dragon, I couldn't agree more!

  • its your life, you never have to grow up, you dont even have to do shit, just dont affect other peoples lives with your immaturity or lifestyle

  • @SOLIDSNAKEXXX360

    Agreed!

  • your so immature, wow i hate when people say that to me i totally agree with what your saying man

  • @MrGameplaya33

    Thanks man!

  • Hmm, this one didn't pop up on my subscriber page.

I don't understand why people feel like they need to criticize us for our hobbies, but think theirs are beyond reproach. At least we don't collect the heads of animals, or dead butterflies. I know people that collect the tabs off of beer cans and pornography, but they think that there is something wrong with my collection!

Piss on all of them, I'm taking it with me when I die!

  • @edt1138

Piss on them indeed! I have a friend who collects hub caps btw! lol

  • @edt1138 It honestly makes me sad to think that some day I might actually not be able to play my retro games anymore. Nothing last for ever. It depresses me. But a hobbies a hobby and as long as none one gets hurt then I say way not!

  • ha great stuff man, reminds me of a friend i had years ago when he stepped into our Victorian family home and said "cant your mum and dad afford a new house" Ignorance is a burden i share on a daily basis here in Australia. But i just laugh them off .. anyway i have to go now and play with my star wars figures and read some old Whizzer and Chips... Bring it on :)

  • @adfot1

Oh my God I forgot all about Whizzer and Chips! lol

  • g0od point,SLgamingblog,*)

  • @gamersheaven81

    Agreed!

  • Most people cant even point out what an adult is.

  • @SLgamingblog

    Brilliant point Scott!

  • fok those copyheads,live ur life the way U want,everybody's equal,but nobody'da same,*)

  • @gamersheaven81

    Amen!

  • (character limit....AAAARGH!) So, yeah, there is no actual reason to put away "childish" things other than it's what society seems to demand. Hell, you could make the same "argument" about sports fans who religiously keep track of stats and play fantasy sports. While it is viewed as something negative right now, it doesn't mean it always will be, however. I mean, look at the culture around StarCraft in Korea, for example.

  • The problem is the stigma attached to purchasing toys or video games. Society views it as something purely for children even though many adults enjoy collecting toys from their childhood, or that remind them of it. Video games are even more complicated, since I would argue there is nothing childish about playing video games as an adult. The funny part is that many adults who prop up this stigma, engage in so called "childish" behavior in the privacy of their own home. (TheGreenMonkeyKing's post)

  • @castlevania78

Yet I feel no stigma or shame when I do! lol

  • Seems like what you need to do is hang out with better friends. Seriously, what does that guy do for a hobby? I bet it is a billion times less fun than what you do.

  • @RiddlerOnYutube

Unfortunatly you can choose your friends but alas not your family! ;0

  • Comment removed

  • I dont wanna grow up because if I did I wouldnt be a Toys R Us Kid.................. hopefully you've heard of this jingle, if not your prob like what? haha

  • @ScubaDiverPicker

I hadn't but since reading the comments here I am now more than familiar! lol

  • tell them to fuck off

  • @devicat

    Duly noted

  • i do what i like and i like what i do

  • @adamjohnjose

    Amen!

  • I hear exactly where your coming from mate, you've ticked all the boxes i would've mentioned as well. I just find it sad sometimes when people who aren't collectors of whatever stuff feel the need to be NEGATIVE against our passions/enjoyments in life. Basically i just say at least i have something to show for my hard earned cash than a pool of sick or piss up a wall. TBH!..i'd never intrude negatively into there lifestyle choices because it's entirely up to them i feel. Strange world heh! :)

  • @MENDEZ1628

    Good man

  • You're only as old as you feel don't let anyone tell you otherwise

  • @MrGuitarSpeak

    Cheers

  • haha thats the best line in a video "There's far worse things I could be into.... I could be into smack!" haha Lovin' it. Also NO one said growing up had to involve changing your attitude on life.

  • @spritesNbytes

Maybe I should get some Smack and do a follow up video? ;0)

  • I kinda get where your friend is coming from but he comments about it in a way that he shouldn't. Like honestly if I was in a Walmart or something and I saw some like 40 year old playing with the stuff in the toys section, I would admit that that is a bit out of the norm. But the thing about it is, when people say "those are for kids", that bugs me because that is not an entirely true statement. The way to put it is, they were designed primarily to appeal to a child base audience.

  • @TheInevitableSaiyan But that doesn't mean that they are only for kids. Its the same with Yugioh. Yeah the MAJORITY of people that play Yugioh are between the ages of probably 9 and 16, But that doesn't mean that people in their twenties can't have fun with it? And the thing with the old consoles in your house was complete BS. Preferring older generations of consoles doesn't even reflect being a child, its just your opinion on which you find more enjoyable.

  • @TheInevitableSaiyan It reminds me of modern day teenagers that go, "What??? you listen to The Beach Boys and The Beatles???? What are you like 60 years old???"

Its just a matter of what you find more enjoyable.

  • @TheInevitableSaiyan

What?? You listen to the Beatles???? Good man, major props from me on that one Trent! ;0)

  • I think it's sad when people lose that sense of wonder, enjoyment, excitement even. If one loses that they're a bit of the walking dead really. Society does too much, I think, to try to root childhood out of us. It's like a form of conditioning. Sounds to me like your family member's not a little jealous of you. Cheers

  • @23penguins32

I think maybe you are right and he is, otherwise why go out of your way to say something? Theres plenty of things my friends do and I may not agree with but if its not hurting anyone and it brings them pleasure I keep my mouth shut.

  • I answer it for ya... in an episode of "Talk It Up"... =P

  • @Phazonhunter8

Let me know when you do mate

  • @lawnboyspost1975 I will sir

  • Next time someone says that to you thell them to define "grow up"

As far as your relative goes I would've said if you're so grown up why are you playing a game with me? ...lol

  • @RazielCage1

    Brilliant answer!

  • ha ha... nice story... I agree its stupid to say that.

Thing is we have grown up? We are older... but we just enjoy fun things.

Its just like the saying I hate too... "you need to get a life!" ok... ;o)

  • @interghost

Great point! At the end of the day if I like, if it makes me smile then why should I let it go?

  • Nice video. I just do what I want I don't care what others think or say.

  • @LikeToGame80

    Good man!

  • Come on Lawnboy--Here is what is means--When you are grown up you have to dress up and eat at nice places and drive expensive cars, join exclusive clubs and give all your hard earned money to other grown ups to invest and then when you want your money back you find out that the other grown ups have took your money and installed a gold toilet on there new yacht.---hahahaha---All jokes aside--I think it is an individual personality--Have some kids-Then you have to grow up a little--LOL--

  • @maddwoba

Being grown up = being broke then? LOL

  • It's strange, just because something my be initially designed with a kid, or young person in mind, doesn't mean that it can't be enjoyed by anyone else. My childhood was an exceptionally happy time so why shouldn't I have things that remind me of those happy times? I get the "grow up" mantra from friends and relatives from time to time; I try my best not to let it bother me and sometimes I get frustrated with it but ultimately I find the the ones that say it are nowhere near as happy as I am.

  • @PsimanUK

Good point, may be designed with kids in mind but anyone with a curious nature or sense of fun is gonna love it and appreciate it!

  • You're never too old to have fun doing what you love. The real winners in life are the ones who realise that.

  • @LargosMaximilian

    Cheers man

  • What's separates folk from their inner child? Like the river in Egypt, denial (old joke, but it's good to air it out from time to time) :)

  • @Retroid64

    Ha Ha

  • "You can be too young for some things, but never too old."

  • You nailed it dude.. as long as you're an adult and responsible when the need arises, then there is no reason why you can't be who your are or act like you want at other times.

Personally, i have great memories from when i was a kid growing up and i want to keep that part of me alive and kicking and dammit, i'm going to!!

  • @TheNooch79

    Thanks man

  • Oh by the way.. 29% of gamers are over 50 yrs old. My dad is over 70 and he plays Wii sports on his own Wii. Google "ESA 2011 'Essential Facts' note rise in women, adult gamers".

  • Anyone reading this should google "ESA 2011 'Essential Facts' note rise in women, adult gamers". Here's what it says .. The average gamer's age is 37 in the year 2011.

The latest report shows a slight increase in the average age of game players, is 37 from last year's age of 34. There was also a two percent increase in the female demographic, which now accounts for 42 percent of players. People who say games are just for children are seriously misinformed.

  • @TheGreenMonkeyKing I am 37 :) I might fire my Amiga up and get a hold of the older game Syberia this Sunday :)

  • @TheGreenMonkeyKing

Holy cow! That so cool about the average gamer age is 37!

  • I would say that this person you are talking about is jealous of you. Because you still as an adult have a hobby that you really have a big passion about. And that is all there is to it, because he has nothing better to say about it. These kinds of people dont what to do in their free time they go out and party each week-end or just drink at home at week-ends because they have nothing better to do.

  • @MrRPGcrazy

I guess some people just wanna grow up too soon!

  • atleast collecting and playing videos games as an adult is better than drinking and doing drugs like most adults nowadays

  • @MGRUBERSVILLE Very true!, my home life was very bad so whilst my brother went out and got into such troublesome situations I myself stayed home on the C64 and a little later the Amiga which resulted in no trouble :) My brother agrees that gaming was the best thing I could have done during that time :)

  • @MGRUBERSVILLE

    Good point

  • my dad tells me that from time to time.i really dont care what he says lol

  • @spaceman022 When I was in my pre teens and early teens it was "get off that f#$king computer!" which back then was me on my Commodore 64 which was much more difficult back then because computing was a niche thing to do so was not very common at all!. I was forced into doing an Apprenticeship as a Welder but I had no interest in it but growing up in an Industrialised area meant that was the normal thing to do. I ending up quitting that and did IT study instead.

  • @spaceman022 I am now considering doing Counselling or becoming a Social Worker instead, but I stayed with what I loved during that time and that was Computing and gaming and it served me well believe it or not because it kept me out of trouble and my spelling and writing skills grew 10 fold due to the many text adventures, early graphic adventures and RPG's of the time such as the ones from SSI :)

  • @spaceman022

    Good man

  • I should probably try and get hold of another Tamiya Hornet radio controlled Car :) I had one in the 80's whilst my friends either had the Grass Hopper or the Jet Hopper :) Oh the good old days, even though the charge time for the Hornet was 16 hours on trickle charge ;)

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah I get that from time to time for people about video games."video games are for kids, I grew out of that along time ago" My usual comeback "Do you watch tv? I watched tv as a kid and I grew out of it" Or sometimes ill say "you might go home and watch tv, but I go home and play video games, whats the diffrence, the both escapism from life, just mines more interactive" As long as my bills are paid I dont see anything wrong. Big thumbs up for the jays shirt man!

  • @gabbogabbo

Thanks man, also a Habs fan by the way! ;0)

  • Sometime during primary school, my dad said to me, "don't try to grow up too fast, because being a grown-up lasts the rest of your life." I didn't understand it then, but it was probably the best advice I have been (and ever will be) given.

More often than not, I find that the people who use the "you should grow up" phrase were in a rush to grow up themselves - although I don't understand why, type A adults are a boring lot!

This is a great video mayte - SUBBED :)

  • @Kawaiiprincess01

Thanks for the sub and your Dad is a wise man, when repsonsibility comes its here forever so embrace your inner child. As you said some people are in too much of a hurry to grow up so let them and they can leave the rest of us adult Children alone!

  • What a person is interested in is totally up to that person. If their interest causes no harm to others and themselves, it totally makes no different what another person thinks. Life is about living and living is doing stuff that interest you. We like retro games, consoles, toys etc It is just the stuff we like.

Males especially like hobbies, the actual hobbies may have changed, but the need to have one or more hobbies grows stronger the older one gets and leads to happiness etc :)

  • @electricadventures

Good points, if we don't have an out let or a way we like to express our selves then how shallow our lives would be?

  • Really happy to read all these comments and meet like minded folks on here as I used to think I was alone and a little odd but now im out of the closet (on toys, comics lol) I have no shame and that's great :) I was thinking thought what will happen when im 40..lol..well Im please some folks on here still collecting by that age haha :) Great video Dave :)

  • @devilstoysuk2

I know eh Leo, kinda restores your faith a bit that we are not alone my friend! ;0)

  • Something I have noticed, nearly all the so called normal people are nearly always the ones who are racist, sexist, homophobic and all the rest of it, all the horror fans and collectors I know are polite, easy going and respectful.

I'm 37 and I've never understood this rule of not liking new music or films or changing your personality to fit in with everybody else, like you said of course paying your bills and all that stuff is important who cares if you've got a huge collection of videos?

  • in my case.

  • @Savoy1984

    Amen

  • i'm about to be 33, and i still wonder if i'll ever grow up. I had an odd childhood that forced me to grow up way to ofast, and now that i am somewhat "free", i'm making up for those years lost. There's a lot of pressure to get married, have kids, settle down, but i just don't feel it yet. I enjoy my life. Good vid

  • @henryblazer20

Well then I say grow young Henry and make up for lost time! ;0)

  • I'm 35 and have never grown up!! I have more toys now than I did as a kid! Why grow up, you loose the curiosity about life :o( Yes, I can be an adult when I need to be and be a kid and have fun! Oooh, I have a few hotwheels, I even have an iggle piggle (another story lol)

Wow, sounds like your friend is a really miserable bugger! So many people in this world don't have fun because they are concerned about what others do. I act funny because it makes others, including perfect strangers....

  • @RetroGamerVX ...laugh and brightens up their day for a moment. As long as you do no harm to others, do what you want!

  • @RetroGamerVX

Thanks man and I agree if I ain't hurting no one then they can bugger off! ;0)

  • I think his criticism of the things you like speaks more about his own insecurities than anything else. Lets face it why would what you collect annoy him? Perhaps it could be because you stand out from the accepted norms of society for what a guy your age is expected to do. Maybe he is jealous because he to frightened to do the same.

As I said don’t let him get to you. If he has problems with you collecting stuff. They are his problems not yours.

  • @seedofthepeople

Yup, I guess some people find it easier to comment on others lives rather than look at their own!

  • You wouldn't swear in a graveyard?

Surely that's the best place to do it. :)

  • @Quimbyrbg

    Force of habit! lol

  • Kids play with certain things for a reason... because they're fun. Very often those things don't stop being fun when we get older, so why on earth should we stop being into them? Are we supposed to not have fun when we get older? Screw that!

  • @SteveBenway

    100% agree with you Steve!

  • To be honest, id say "define acting like an adult" they will say stuff like...going around antiqe fairs looking for bargains..and being intrested in morgages....that isnt for me...or some people. I respect those who do but i do what i like in my spare time. i play on 80s video games, i watch some "childish" fils like Mighty Ducks and Cool runnings..theres no way that can be offencive to people. so i agree with what you say 100%

  • @TheCrazyCenobite

    Thanks man! ;0)

  • I think it's just an outdated perspective that society in general holds. Same with a lot of things, tbh.

You're only as old as you feel.

I wonder if some of these people know the definition of: "fun". :(

At the end of the day: if what you're doing is legal and isn't hurting anyone else, then what's the problem? :)

  • @AtsumaKarin

I guess some people were just born old and with no passion from day one!

  • Alot of people tht say grow up probaly really want to collect toys nd sht, but they do not hae the will power to challenge the normal society, I think it makes a person more interesting to do what they want and not to do what they have been told

  • @lukeywookey1234

I guess some people find it easier to look at other peoples lives and not their own!
