  • real dead ghosts< ever seen a live ghost?

thanks for uploading, loved this programme as a child

  • I loved this as a kid...Im getting goosebumps #tearyeyed. Aww the memories.

  • My father, Bob Block, conceived and wrote the entire Rentaghost series, which ran for 8 years. Fans will be sad to hear that Bob died peacefully at the age of 89 on 17th April 2011. His work will be fondly remembered by many.

    Steve Block

  • @SteveTheMusicMan1 It must be nice to know your Father entertained a generation of 70s kids with Rentaghost,i along with everyone i've ever mentioned the series to remember it with great fondness. :)

  • @craig50 Thanks for that - yes, the family are very proud of what Dad achieved. It's a shame he didn't get more public recognition during his career, particularly by the BBC for whom he wrote so many series.

  • @SteveTheMusicMan1 Wow, I had no idea that it had run that long! I thought it was an early eighties thing, but it was mid seventies. Used to love it. Your Dad had a very good innings, by the way. Our generation should be so lucky.

  • The early days of Rentaghost were the best, before it turned into a hide the pantomime horse farce.

  • how did Michael Stainforth die?

  • @cableguy786 of an AIDs related illness. Timothy got too much clay on his pole

  • It surprises me how much he looks like ex-Tory MP Michael Heseltine!!!

  • lovfl at ur comments

  • THE FIRST SERIES WAS THE ONLY ONE RELEASED ON DVD.

    DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY?

IT WAS A GOOD SERIES AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE OF THEM!

  • @thekroton I believe there are rights issues with the other series.

  • oNe of the first things I saw on the internet was some Rentaghost fan-fiction about how Mr. Meaker came back from the pub drunk and started having sex with Miss. Popoff. As he was having sex his mind drifted to remember the great time he had in the pub with Timothy Claypole, he muttered "I wish Claypole was here". The magic amulet (that grants wishes) started flashing and Miss.Popoff disappeared to be replaced with Claypole. Meaker just carried on having sex with Claypole as he was drunk.

  • Excellent.

     (RiP Michael Staniforth)

  • Peza38 Thats probably the best thing ive ever read on you tube...ever!!

  • i dont remember the them being this funky !

  • Loved this.

  • Miss Popov Audrey off Coronation st. I saw her tits once.

  • She should be called Miss Popout!! :-)

  • I might live to regret this - how did you see old Auds paps?

  • @peza38 where and when? do you have video evidence?

  • Timothy Claypole, what an annoying RADA trained twat!

  • it was quite surreal and creepy but in a post modern way i fookin love it

  • I missed this show,it really took me back to the golden age of my childhood, when food tasted so good, always attending your friends childhood party, shame they don't make it like this anymore

  • My God. I forgot about this. Mind u I was 5 or 6 at the time. Gosh.

  • I remember this, Nadia Popov was played by Audrey off Coronation St, lol..

  • My main memory of this programme was them all running round the Meekers' living room for some reason at the end and discovering that all the chaos had been caused by a mysterious flashing pendant which the camera would zoom in on. There was also a robot aswell but can't remember where it fitted in to the story! : /

  • The original show was excellent! Then it went really crappy when they lost the older ghost, the modern guy who couldnt walk through walls and added a stupid witch. They turned an imaginative quirky idea into a crap panto. You can see I'm still upset haha :D

  • Yeah, after 30 years it still hurts me too. And what was the deal with crappy panto horse they added later? I thought that idea sucked and I was only six at the time........ :D

  • The actor playing the ghost from the past, sadlty died, then the modern guy decided to quit,so it left Mr Claypole with Molly Weir as Hasel McWitch and Lynda La Plante as Miss Popov, she left and Corrie's Audrey Roberts (Sue Nichols)joined as Miss Popov's cousin!

  • Interesting info - thanks. They could have continued the format with the same characters and different actors - seemed like the writers, producers and everyone else left too ;)

  • wow... I'd COMPLETELY forgotten about this show...... wow!

  • loved this when i was a kid and i bet id still laugh at it today..whats happend to all the childrens comedy today??

  • awesome classic t.v.Takes you back too many years but it is worth it.Love the theme tune as written by Mr claypole,it's a real shame it's not broadcast any more which is a total disgrace considering the total amount of repetitive crap on t.v at present

  • brilliant - this was the first version before it turned ultra crap - good title song

  • Comment removed

  • i loved rentaghost it was brill.

  • never realised there was another version of the theme... thanks a lot for posting! great quality too. love that jangley piano

  • They were told to alter this version by BBC management as there were too many references to the occult eg. seances, mediums etc.

  • ha ha! They could put it on Living TV now!! Derek Acorah has nothing on this! lol

  • Mr Davenport allways reminded me of Jon Pertwee as the 3rd (and best) Dr Who.

  • Good Call!!!

  • Tom Baker is number 1, long scarf.

  • Thanks for the post. Was just talkin bout this with friends. Happy Xmas and thanks again from Dublin 3.

  • Sadly Mr. Claypole (Michael Staniforth) died back in 1987. He composed, played and sang all the theme tune versions.
