@TheSlimshadyrocks not necessarily.. there's a guy on youtube called wlchrbanditgaming who plays CoD and many other games with a similar injury (c5/c6 I think) and he's pretty good, too :)
Im a student studying behavioural neuroscience. Quadriplegia just came up in my reading without further explaination at this point, and I decided to look it up on youtube. All they mentioned was that it is caused by injury from c4 or above. Thank you for posting this video. I am touched by it, as I am also a diver and almost got hurt diving back in November in Cayman islands.
I know I've said this before - but thanks for sharing this with all of us. I have RA, lots of breaks everywhere - very brittle bones. I wound up being banged up real bad in an assault which fratured my spine and the surgeon apologized afterward telling me I couldn't be fixed. I have had to relearn how to walk 4x so far. The last I used manual chair for two years. But who you are shines through. Again - thanks.
How did you end up being able to use a manual wheelchair! I have a friend that's a C6 complete quadriplegic and she's been using a power chair for the last four years (no hand function at all, in hand splints but good wrist function). You must be incomplete then or had some great rehab lol.
@Counterbrilliance hi, I'm complete and don't have any hand function. I'm in a manual chair with power assist wheels. Once you check out my videos you'll see what I'm talking about. Thank you for the comment and have a great day :)
Hey there, the name is Dave and I'm a neurology resident with the University of Toronto doing a study on quadriplegia and adaptation. I'm wondering if I could pick your brain? If you're interested drop me a line. Dave
Keep trying dude!!! I've made some work out videos for people like us in wheelchairs that can't get to a gym so check it out and maybe there is something in there that is useful for you, keep it up dude, there are lots of instances where feeling will come back to your arms and possibly your abs!
Keep up the work outs, i understand it's hard.. but you'll feel better as you gain more strength. I am a c7, it sucks sometimes but got to make the best out of what we have.. God bless bro.
I noticed you mentioned spasms. If they real bad, and cause pain and increase your risk of falling, you can get a Baclofen Pump. My son has one, and really helps alot. He has full body spasms and they used to be real real bad. Now he hardly has any.
I dont even know you and that was hard for me to watch! Its sad to see such a young man struggle with something that should be so easy..I cant emagine a day in your world!...thank you for sharing this video! I hope everyone who watches it takes time to appreciate the small things..
great vid. hang in there homie. im a C6 C7 Quad. my level of injury is pretty much the same as yours, but i have a lil more movement in my arms and fingers. my chair is similar to yours as well. i am driving and i am able to do more things with practice. i am going to make a vid soon that may be similar to yours. once again, keep your head up.
I'm C5/C6 myself since 1992. Over time I've managed to strengthen my shoulders and biceps to the point where I can pick myself up if I fall forward most of the time (I do still sometimes get stuck) :) You look like a real fighter, so I just want to say, hang in there, it gets easier. You are in inspiration!
@Charezon Do you/did you have extreme pain in your shoulders and neck? Nerve damage/or arthritis? I do, I've recently started driving (since December 2010) I cannot drive very far because I have playing in my shoulders and I was wondering if you have anything similar to my symptoms? Does it ever go away if so what do you do to help?
@James29440 I actually broke my shoulder blade (scapula) in the accident too, which has left me with endless problems - pain, weak right shoulder, etc when I push. No, apart from the occasional neck pain (just below my skull) I don't have problems with nerves or arthritis, yet. Cold weather really hits hard, so the best remedy I've found was heat (electric blanket in bed, just don't burn yourself).
@James29440 One possible solution I could recommend is trying Arthroguard tablets (do a Google search) but this is a long-term fix, not an "over night" cure. My dad had severe arthritis and started using Arthroguard daily - 3 months later he started seeing results, and few months after that he looked like a new person, no pain, etc. Hope it helps.

Hey bro I seen you struggling with trying to sit back up after your weight shift! From my own experience maybe you want to try it. Beings you can take breaths on your own, try this. When I sit myself back up I will take a deep breath in as I sit up and it helps alot! Let me know how it works for you!
Hi my name is Gary, I'm a C-6 quad since 1984, after my accident I went to rehab then home. My family is a big part of where i'm at today. I'm still in the chair but over the years I've built up my strength so I transfer from my chair to bed and to my vehicle without a sliding board, I have good balance. I started working in a machine shop in customer service in 1988 and have been working ever since. Just wanted to say Hi and hope you're doing well.
Are you working with a physical therapist at all? There are core strengthening exercises that you can practice to help you be able to get yourself back up should you end up in a situation like that. It will also help you with your transfers, etc.
Thank you for sharing.

Dude you're so lucky being short. We got about the same function, but I'm 6'4". It's along vway back up.
I use spasms to help snap things back up... Unless I'm too tired...

@patonb I'm 6'1" haha, but yea you can call me a shorty... well we're all lucky to be alive, and a part of a medical experiment.
