The queen was a mere adventure, even thought it looked impossible to believe. Pitty, they could not all be together, the king the queen and the general, that woul have seemed to save all problems, but in a true Korean movie there is no happier end than being reunited in deat. Amen!

true indeed. the whole movie theme is to serve the king, to his subjects and desires. had the king not given hong lim the opportunity to consummate the queen, hong lim would have been trapped in the king's arms for long. however, at the ending hong lim felt love for the king before hong lim's last breath, and looked at the king for the last time in tears. hong lim's heart would still have some place for the king.
I agree but I also believe he did loved the king at one point. Take the ending for example when he turned over to look at the King one last time before he died. And, the whole 'horse back riding ' scene at the end. :-)
despite how twisted this movie is, i loved every second of it. whomever thought of having a gay man have sex with a woman and then turn straight was a genious.
i also watched about 6 times in just 3 days.... but i only re-watched those scenes that have 朱鎮模... anyway his performance was the reason i watched over and over again !!
