I can't believe the creator is ending this show after the fifth "season". I don't know how he can call them seasons with only six episodes a piece.

And to top it off, his reasoning is "I don't want the show to become a a zombie series where the show is dead but its body is still moving around".

If he ends it after only six more episodes, it will be more like an aborted fetus show killed before it has a chance to grow!

Pathetic. The four seasons so far only amount to 1 season of Seinfeld.

@frankovich213 It's an entirely reasonable decision. If a creator feels they cannot keep the show going without it becoming stale, they SHOULD end it. Otherwise we get stuff like the Simpsons, where it was hilarious in the early days, but has only gotten worse and worse. As for six episodes a "season", it's a British thing. We like short seasons. :P

@HeyShayMay Yes you're right but I just don't see how that situation applies to this show.

I know the creators/writers think they know what they're doing but I've watched enough sitcoms to know that it takes a few decent length seasons for the characters to really develop.

For them to think that they nailed it in only 24 episodes is just naive.

Maybe it's not naivety but they are selling themselves short by thinking that they are anywhere near being stale.

It's a mistake to end the show.

@frankovich213 I would agree, but the IT Crowd was never really character-driven. The characters feel more like vessels for the jokes to me, rather than being developed or three-dimensional. In that sense, I feel that the best time to end the series is when it's still on its high and the jokes are still good - there are no character arcs to be wrapped up or anything.

Still, 6 episode per series is definitely ridiculous, and it's a real shame that it's ending.

It's worth bearing in mind that a show like this has a lot less writers than a show like Seinfeld. It would be a lot more creatively draining to do it all by yourself.

Chris O'Dowd stated "Hopefully what's going to happen is we'll do a Christmas special this summer, and then another series later on," The christmas special was a go until it was finaly confirmed by linihan on twitter that there wont be one on December 18th.
