In a competitive marketplace, companies sink or swim according to their performance. The auto industry should be no different. This was actually the second bailout for Chrysler. They were bailed out in 1980 when Lee Iaacoca was the CEO. If an auto company doesn't keep up with its competitors and not manage its overhead and expenses wisely, then it deserves to go bankrupt or out of business, just like any other business in America. Bailouts are band-aid solutions for fundamental problems.

In all reality, it's a continuous bailout. I work for a company that makes specific parts for GM, and they forced my company to buy a certain item or they would take their biz elsewhere, this item costs over 10 million, the owner took 5 mil of his own money and got 5 mil from the gov, that gov cash never has to be paid back because of some deal with GM, I'd call that a continuous bailout for GM and my company.

In all reality, it's a continuous bailout. I work for a company that makes specific parts for GM, and they forced my company to buy a certain item or they would take their biz elsewhere, this item costs over 10 million, the owner took 5 mil of his own money and got 5 mil from the gov, that gov cash never has to be paid back because of some deal with GM, I'd call that a continuous bailout for GM and my company.

Basically using some tarp money, but tarp is not in the same department in the gov't. It is still in the same "family", but at the place of owning money to mom (legislative), they own money to dad (executive) and the accountant (Treasury). It's a question of hat, and there is much much worst than that going on in financial world right now.
