Strange...all those screaming girls of the 60s are still there and still screaming but they are old ladies now! Weird to see older people screaming at a concert!
nesmith did appear with them at the Greek in LA a couple of months after this and then recorded Justus with them in '96, so I wouldn't say he wanted nothing to do with the Monkees.
(Talking about Michael Nesmith - an accomplished songwritter, guitarist and keyboard player) "Mike was the most passive on stage of the band .... our show doesn't miss anything from him not being here..." - Can you believe this conceded little fuck? Who does he think he is - Paul McCartney? No wonder Davy Jones only plays casinos and country fairs now.
(Talking about how MTV promoted their first reunion show) "We did as much for MTV as MTV did for us." - What an arrogant little fuck?!
There were two actors in the band, and two honest musicians, Michael & Peter. It's amusing that Davey would say he didn't miss Michael who spearheaded the revolution that gave the band independence from the business suits.
@Doogy17 well what is he suppose to say? mike doesnt want to be associated with the monkees. yes he was holarious and talented, but any band member that doesnt support the group and every member doesnt need to be there. and as he said, he was the most passive on stage, and he did say 4 monkees is better than 3, but they are handling it the best they can.
@Doogy17 You're forgetting that Davy and Mickey both played guitar. They didn't origanlly played the instruments they were assained but they learned them. (Okay. Mickey learned his. Davy banged the tamborine.) So they were all 4 honest musicians. And Mike was too busy getting sued by PBS to attend the tour.
@somethinsuavetheater Actually, Davy was a better DRUMMER than Micky, but he was hard to see when he was behind a kit, so Micky became the Drummer. Peter could probably taught either of them any instrument they chose.
Mike ended up winning the lawsuit to the reported tune of up to $500,000....
@wildcatter63 I was unaware that Davy was a drummer. That was something that I haven't uncovered in my readings. The tamborine statement was a joke because Davy always joked about it. Peter was an amazing talent and still is. I heard he mastered 9 instruments by the time he was 18. And I know Mike won. I was referring to the time of this recording. And Mike should've won the suit because PBS did him dirty.
Peter seems to have aged the best of all of them through the years despite the fact they claimed HE was the one who did the most drugs of the four and he's actually the eldest.
I was at this show! I am so glad you have this! I lost my copy over the years. This brings back memories. July 4th, 1986--Sarasota Fairgrounds. Awesome. A day I'll never forget. I made eye contact with Micky and Peter. although at a show many years later, I actually got a kiss from Davy! Still, this concert was the best I ever attended. Thanks again for posting!
I think its great that they are still struting their stuff after 45 years...with or without Mike. Since the band wasn't a solo act for Mike...I think they are doing the best that CAN be done!...And it's great that the rest of the Monkees didn't drop the ball because of Mike...
@FuzzballToday I mean, of course - I LOVE that they're on tour now, that they're still out there. I was at their show in Indianapolis the other weekend - best concert I've ever been to in my life. However, it's sad that Mike wasn't there. They're certainly missing something.
But the other guys were great - and Peter was amazing - I'm so impressed with how he sounds after his bat with cancer.
@agapelloauthor I need to correct something here....Forgive me when I said that it was sad Mike wasn't there and that it was missing something...I think now the only thing that was missing is that Mike didn't appreciate the fact that he could of been there and wasn't..
I love Micky and Peter to death.. I met them in 2001 and helped sooth me as it wasthe happiest and saddest day of my life.. Davy was pissy that night and blew off 40 + fans.. Rather sad as I hugged Davy in 96 at the columbus zoo.. Too bad I never got to talk to him about it.. That really hurts even all these years after the final tour....
Davy looks so different as he ages...I really miss his big white teeth, and his very full lips...he was almost girly in the '60s, but looked so much better than now...age can be a sad thing...

From what I understand they wouldn't play the superbowl and MTV dropped them like a hot potato and that ended their comeback

Davey Jones - padded shoulder pads and a mullet. It must be the 80's
jenwill11 1 year ago
Funny with those shoulder pads in his jacket.
Davy still puts on such fun concerts, if you get a chance to see him, you should!
I saw the Monkees concerts in 1967, this 1986 tour and Vegas 1997. Davy I saw two years ago in concert.

*Gasp* Davy Jones . . . Maybe you don't think your show is missing anything from Mike, but I certainly think it is.
