I'll have to admit that it was Ed Wood (the film) that sent me looking for Lugosi's part of Glen or Glenda. This is surprisingly good... I was looking for the unhinged performance that Landau gives in Burton's film, but this is actually interestingly done.
no douchebags ! karloff was a bad motherfucking talent !! with his comanding presence he made you shit your pants down !!
but lugosi was the real talent in my opinion , talent that went wasted , always the shadow of karloff was covering him , karloff would always get a more money from a movie and a better part (excluding the raven and the black cat) proof ?
the body snatcher , lugosi makes a very very small cameo . wtf !
Only Bela Lugosi could make Ed Wood scripted mumbo jumbo as memorable and intense as any Marlon Brando method performance on the silver screen. R. I. P. Bela.
Is that not SO true? You can see what made the guy a great stage actor. The story of the utterly sincere Wood and his friendship with Lugosi, who got one more chance to be famous, has got to be one of the most touching stories in the history of cinema...
Great job by Bela again. Always wanted to walk in to one of those snotty Shakespeare auditions, where everyone is doing Romeo and Juliet or Hamlet monologues, and break out this or, better yet, the "Atomic Supermen" monologue from Bride and watch them melt before the power of Bela. Just think that would be funny.
The funniest bit from a ridiculous movie about a guy (Wood) who likes to dress as a woman. Hilariously bad. There is one before this where Lugosi has a bubbling beaker and a skull but this is the best. Much worse and funnier than Plan 9. The "wrong" and "right" have to do with sexual identity -- the whole movie is about that. The "string" I think is a reference to nature makes you a certain way. "People...goink plazez...each with his own perzonality..."
this would work, but this narrator has nothing to do with the film. in fact the narration switches between him and wood's character at random points which is even more confusing.
This dialogue has nothing to do with any specific scene or is actually about anything in particular. One of the many flaws in wood.
For instance, The stampede in the background was just a way of not letting some stock footage go to waste.
Karloff......? Sidekick.....? FUCK YOU! !!!!!Karloff does not deserve to smell my shit! That limey cocksucker can rot in Hell for all I care! You think it takes talent to play Frankenstein...it's all...all..makeup! And grunting!! rrrrr RRRR rrrrrr
A memorable bit from ED WOOD although Lugosi in reality didn't fly off the handle like that at the mention of Karloff's name mainly because they both respected each other as professionals too much for something like that.
Lugosi and Karloff never had a major personal rivalry. They vied for roles, true, but they didn't hate each other, nor did Bela despise him either. The only time Bela did say he felt stalked by Karloff was when he was having a Morphine induced dream of being chased by Karloff.
Its actually pretty bad, if shot correctly you could completly cut his bottom half by shoting him first with that bottom part (of the film) cover, and then shot the people with the upper part of the film cover and ta dah!
And that was already an old technique in filming by that time.
Wow. This is fucking huge. After seeing previously one very interesting, surreal scene from this movie, this one tops it and makes me really wanna watch GoG. A wonderful imagination from Wood. And the original use of transition proves how visionary he was.
Despite the bad acting and the poor script - I enjoyed this movie. I've seen films that are a lot worse, in terms of boringness and predictability. And this particular scene is actually pretty cool.
CGI corporate movies are garbage just to make some money. Ed Wood didn't have many resources but he worked his heart out to produce what he did and he never gave up no matter what he was told.
Could not be more right. It's pretty damned amazing. Ridiciulous, you know it the whole time, but yet perversely convincing--and how could the film world be the same without it?
@oancitizen thats right I think so, too....but one question...what do you think of "Last Airbender" it's a very similar story, this movie also came from Night's heart but everybody hates it...i Know its very offtopic but Im juzst interested....
I really loved Tim Burton's ED WOOD to :) But I'm not shure its the most accurate translation of Bela Lugosi's or Ed Wood's life. It left out important people and events, like the fact that Lugosi where married the last years of his life. But then, I don't think the movie was ment to be a biography :)
You're right Burton's Ed Wood isn't a biography!A weird genius as Ed Wood deserved much more than this! And that's what Burton did! That movie is brilliant, weird and poetic as our beloved Eddy!

Ed Wood was a great director, Just look what he did with the means at his disposel.
The anti-war message in Plan9 and the transgender-pride message in Glen or Glenda show he had the biggest balls in showbizz as wel as a heart.
His movies, crude as they are, can easely stand next to Modern Times, The Great Dictator or Toxic Avenger.
