The Peterson is accurate to +/-0.1 cent. The Turbo Tuner is accurate to +/-0.02 cent, at worst. So five times more accurate than the Peterson, and 150 times more accurate than the beloved Boss TU-2, and sure as hell faster than both.
What about the tonal quality? which pedal seems to suck more from the guitar's tone? the price comparison aside, I think this true-bypass issue plays a more crucial role, so what do you say folks? (watched a video, Andy Timmons does use an older version of the Peterson Tuner for its true-bypass quality) Cheers...
I was undecided between the two of these tuners until I watched this vid, and I brought the Turbo Tuner on the strength of this video.
Using the Turbo Tuner for a few Months, I have to say it is an Awesome Tuner. No Guessing, No real learning curve - takes about 5 "tunings" to equate the spinning display with which way you should turn your tuning machines without thinking.
Super fast note acquisition, super accurate AND you can read it from about 20 feet away on a pitch black stage. Love It.
Want. The ST-200 that is. If anyone in Europe can hook me up (new or used), please lemme know. They're twice the normal twice if I have to import one from the US. Weird a company like that doesn't have any European distribution...
For more stable tuning when adjusting a sharp string, tune to below the pitch and then back up. It keeps tension constant across the nut. Less of an issue if your nut is cut and maintained right, but that is very extremely rare nowadays; always tuning *up* into a pitch is an easy fix for all guitars.
Now do that with a mandolin or a banjo while on a stage with 70-90 db of sound around you. That is when I can tell if a tuner is worth a crap or not for use on the road
Turbo Tuner is the best tuner. Fast, precise and reasonably priced. I bought a Peterson and returned because it never stops moving. And in live situations is really fast.
I think I'll pick up the Turbo, went thru 2 Peterson's already, second one died at a gig a couple days ago, don't trust them anymore, and I take good care of my gear, Peterson's are good tuners and accurate, but poorly built, in my opinion.
For tuning I like the Peterson with it's GTR sweetener for guitars. You also get all sorts of intrument timings, dropped, and capo. Cost though is $199. For response I like the Turbo Tuner ($129?). And for looks I like the Korg PitchBlack ($89). You just have to decide what's important to you. They all tune very well.
Maybe this is being picky but the Peterson shows you which octave your playing in subscript. Ex. E note displayed shows a 0,1,2,3.. In the lower right corner. This allows you to see what note you're really playing if you're in mute mode. All these tuners are great and do the job. Just need to pick one that's right for you.
uilt like a TANK it should say, sorry for the typo. AS compared to the new TC, I like that this TT has it's mode buttons up front, the TC has it on the BACK, which means you have to fiddle with your fingers, and don't know which buttons you push... like "was it the left one that did this or that..?". This one, you can see from the top. And you can put the pedals back close up to another pedal. Since the input is on the right side, youcan use adapter there anyway, which doesn't take up space.
I think TT wins, even over the brand new TC polytuner. It's built like a thank, and what I like very much, is that you can have anything plugged into it without draining the battery. It's only on when it's ON, not when something is plugged in. This, I never heard any other pedal do. TT wins in accuracy and speediness over both the new TC and Peterson.
There's only a .01 difference between these two? At 1:34 when the turbo tuner tracks every note up and down the octave three times while the $70 more expensive peterson keeps showing G. That right there sold me...
I have a request: Could you do the same test with the guitar signal going thru the ST-200 first? It might have the advantage of a buffered signal, thus getting a cleaner sound to delineate. Or, you could put a buffer/boost/micro amp before the guitar...comments?
I own the Turbo and it's very solidly build. I couldn't be happier with it. I've never owned/tried a Peterson and have no doubt that it's a sweetie (no pun intended), but you do save money with the Turbo and it's more accurate. I've also read about several unreliable Petersons. Love my Turbo! My whole band loves it and tunes up through it.
They're both supposed to be used onstage anyway, so I'm thinking about getting one of those St-200. Peterson is indeed more accurate, but for a stompbox time is key. If you're a tech looking for the best tool, save on beer and get a Peterson V-SAM™, if you're a musician save the money on your ST-200 and buy beer ;)
Both have similar accuracy, but SSII looks a little more accurate. There's more info on partials of the note (3-4 bands), while no info on the ST-200. The ST-200's quicker, but if you're intonating does it help? The ST-200's way cheaper! The SSII has DI uses/modes, but you pay! Overall the SSII is more versatile for tech/recording but for live use you only need to tune ST-220's the move. Strobe's about accuracy, so if the SSII's a bit more accurate & shows more note info, it's the stobe.
In terms of accuracy they both look about the same. In terms of speed of note detection the ST-200 is obviously quicker, but while that's really cool I don't really see much of an advantage in that.
One thing that is currently drawing me towards the Strobostomp is the DI out which is really handy for recording purposes, being as you can record from the DI (for re-amping) while playing through your amp.
You can program any offsets you want into the TT. A quick google search will find you exactly what the Peterson sweetened and tempered offsets are, should you wish to replicate them. The TT is also true bypass. Unless you really need a DI built into your tuner or find yourself playing in direct sunlight all the time (and can't figure out how to shade an LED with your foot), the TT is hard to beat.
The ST-200 is an excellent product, nice small footprint and a little quicker than the Strobo. BUT it doesn't have all the tuning offsets for tuning other instruments such as my pedal-steel and it is impossible to use in bright light such as outdoors.
The TT is fully programmable, so you can program any offsets into it you like. You can find the peterson offsets online should you wish to duplicate them on the TT.
Is it the peterson's lesser accuracy, poorer note tracking, larger footprint, or the poorer build quality and reliability that makes it a better product exactly?
Well since your on the Sonic Research payroll, I'm going to have to purchase this little inferior tuner and compare it myself to the greatest tuner/tuning company of all time, the Peterson Strobo Stomp. I'll let you know in the near future which one is superior! Where do you purchase the ST-200 at? Big Lots, Wal-Mart, K-Mart? I have a feeling I will be purchasing an expensive paper weight instead! Cheers!

You can't beat a Fender or a Gibson and apparently neither can/could Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Angus Young, Tony Iommi, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Slash, Zakk Wylde, David Gilmour, Joe Perry, Jerry Cantrell, Pete Townsend, Albert King, BB King, Buddy Holly, Buddy Guy, Freddie King, Stone Gossard, Johnny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shephard, Billy Gibbons, Duane Allman, Robbie Krieger, Joe Walsh, Jeff Beck, Yngwie Malmsteen, Buckethead, you want me to keep naming the great or can I stop now?

I watched a demo and it says the st-200mutes when its on... i'd like to be able to to tune my guitar and hear it through the amp at the same time... actually id like ti have it on all the time if i could. will the st-200 let you do that?
You can get an Ernie Ball Volume pedal and use the tuner out so that pedal is always on. When you rock the pedal back so there is no signal to the amp, it will still send signal to the tuner.
Me too because I use Peterson tuners and I wonder how the Turbo Tuner stacks up against other Peterson tuners. I know that we will get down thumbed for having this conversation *sigh*
The Peterson is listed as ±0.1 cents, the turbo is listed as ±0.02 cents, so technically the Turbo is 5x more accurate, but as you can see in this video when you get to that level of accuracy you can't really tell the difference. Both are as accurate as you'll ever need.
Compare this to say a TU-2 which is ±3 cents (ugh) or even the better stage tuners (Korg Pitchblack) at ±1 cent and you can really see (and more importantly hear) the difference.
I watched this video and immediately ordered as Turbo Tuner.!!! it is amazing.. I never liked other tuners because they are slow... not the Turbo tuner!!!! It's also my first dive into temperament tuning (my guitar just sounds better now)
Doesn't Peterson expect people to keep that a secret? I thought I read that they don't want people revealing the offsets as you can buy them separately from the company.
I don't worry about speed, just accuracy for my intonation. What is sweetness and GUIT and why would you need to change any settings to intonate for standard tuning.
Hi,can you tell me,which one is "more accurate"?

I wonder what would happen if you put the Strobo 1st in the signal chain instead of 2nd? Hmm?
Doesn't seem quite fair to send one pedal a direct clean signal and not the other.
