funny how back then, anything foreign and ethnic, no matter where from, they always ascribed that weird middle-eastern riff. see "gee gee from the fiji isle" to see what i mean.
This version of the song makes it sound (to me) like some kind of song sung beside campfires, fairgrounds and horse-drawn gypsy caravans. This version also sounds slightly sinister as well, not like the upbeat jolly old "what ho Bertie" versions I've heard.
Wow, this song brings back memories! My parents and grandparents used to sing this. I never knew the origins of the song or ever heard anyone else singing it, so it is interesting to hear this old recording.
I've heard this song at a faster tempo, and I think I prefer it that way. The "Oh by jingo, oh by gosh by gee" style of lyricism works better at a faster pace.
my childhood very most favo!!! (the original old recording, wish i still had it) I played it endlessly till it met with misfortune, haven't heard this recording in light yrs! THANKS!!!!!!!!

I purchased a box of 78 platters at a vintage shop in NYC.This was one of the records included.I had no idea that Margaret Young was popular!

smart, silly, stylish, and almost hypnotic - pretty sophisticated and naughty stuff for 1920.

This recording was on a tape I ordered from Radiola records years ago. I always thought it was quite a clever little ditty.
