Linux does have some awesome games, like World of Goo and a very nice client for Second Life. If I were a real gamer, I'd probably want to get an Xbox or a playstation or a wii or whatever. Or a second computer to run Windows. I used to have a dualboot to run games, but that's a pain in the ass.

Another inane comment. Please use Windows and test the same game as I have done with over 15 games. Transmitting a virutal mounted .exe from an emulator to a system and using OpenGL creates sketchy framerate. Please use google before arguing

I promise you linux scores worse in game performance than Windows. I use Debian Gentoo and Ubuntu and each suffer massive chop in FPS compared to it, core performance as well. Proven data shows than openGL lacks direct x functionality.

Also it depends on drivers, which linux can lack, regardless that it has worse support on games made for D.X.. Games that are made for DX and OpenGL compare well, however games like Assassins Creed, WoW, GTA, etc, are made for DX10. Using OpenGL drivers on those games are where performance is lacked. @buttpoop3 No Nvidia always have had good Linux drivers and ATI have started to do a goodish job the last few years and and games made for DirectX are windows game not Linux games if you are having to run it in wine or something similar then its not a Linux game so any idiot would know that the FPS would be slower if its a Linux native game it will be on OpenGL and can tend to have better FPS than the same game running in OpenGL in Windows it all depends on your configuration of you system .

If OpenGL had a larger file library and more native games than Direct X then Linux would be decent for games, however having to use wine for Windows Libraries will always decrease performance. Linux native games are also considerably better for system resources however lack FPS in some games that have worse GL support.

Now they are, but so far it is comparable to HTML5's status. OpenGL will grow, but whatever Windows uses will always be the base of game developers. If Windows starts using "D2" for example as a game base library, developers always will give them the benefit of the best drivers, updates, and compatibility.

Most large companies with a lot to lose also use Linux on their servers; for example: Google - the owner of Youtube - has millions of users information to protect - and they run Linux, and develop actively for it. And lastly, Xorg is not crap. Xorg provides a single underlying base for a GUI, allows direct referencing to the CLI, and can provide direct access to every system function available. In Windows, you are Fk'd if for some reason the GUI fails. In Linux, you get a full-featured bash. And Xorg is way more customizable than the Windows GUI, yet again allowing for tinkering of the innards. Xorg also lays a foundation instead of the entire GUI, which allows for alternative DE's.

Everything you said is *not* right. If it was distributed under the BSD or MIT, it could be made proprietary in a matter of minutes. Mediocre security?! Compared to what, Windows? Or maybe OS X? I would've loved Ubuntu.. The problem?? NO WORKING INTERNET FOR ME! Ubuntu is pretty much worthless without internet. I couldn't even get the graphics card driver to install so I couldn't get my screen to jiggle like jell-o x_x . I have a ralink wireless card on my pc and that basically screwed it for me cuz its basically the only wireless that didn't work with the nwswrapper application.
