@SavageInsight it looks like a 6.5x55 to me, and 30-06 rounds can be easily stopped by steel plates. let alone a 7.62x39mm. for all we know that *Plate* is a 4-5inch plate of hardened steel. if you look closely there seems to be no *crater* on the surface. that has to be extremely tough steel to have no Impact crater.

@vaninec yeah it will. both sides including your skull lol, but in the vid that isn't a helmet. its god knows really. but definitely thick steel of some sort. Ive shoot helmets with 17hmr's and they penetrate both sides sometimes. 223 will cut through it like butter. and a 7.62x39 is overkill. :D

Im talking about steel helmets. they are pretty much tin. to stop shrapnel from penetrating your head. thats what kills you when a bomb goes off. 1cm peices of steel going to your brain. Im not sure how them kevlar helmets resist bullets. probably very well. they grab the bullet within the helmet unlike the steel ones that deflect. at certain angles

@artefom it IS a 7.62x39mm. the bullet looks like that (and opens like a banana due to those stripes) due to the rifling inside the barrel. ALMOST EVERY (not all of them) bullet looks like that WHEN FLYING. when it hits something, the physics itself makes the bullet deform again due to the perfuration hole, which friction makes it deform back to a "smooth" side surface.

I have shot 1/2 inch plate steel with and ak using what I thought were regular rounds. The holes were lined with the remains of the jacket and it punched clean through - is this a hardened plate?

If it is from an AK then it is most likely from an AK-74 not an AK-47, the two rounds are completely different. Its the 5.54x39 round, you can tell by the length of the bullet its self. That is if it was fired from an AK typed rifle. otherwise it could be any number of rifle rounds.
