  • Are you Ryan Gosling twin brother?

  • This film creeped me out! But in a good way! It really hearkened back to Tim Burton's Nightmare before Christmas. I really hope a sequel is made soon!

  • @MarieGal20 you mean a sequel to coraline? there would be no need for a sequel. The ending tied up all lose ends, and ended the movie perfectly. Plus, this movie is based off a book, and there is only one book. making a sequel would just ruin it :/

  • Scary for kids? This movie was scary for ME.

  • Myy Favoritee Movieee! :D

  • I saw this and I LOVED it!

  • I was depressed at how bad this movie was...

  • @Toomba363 WHAT. This movie was amazing!!!!! what did you wrong with this?!

  • Tim Burton

  • Henry Selick YOU DUMMY'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hahaha.. Your such a waste of fucking life assfart!!

  • So nice.....

  • Did I ask you..

  • Also, each of the dogs in the theater scene was made individually. No dupes whatsoever.

  • thats what i though, it was a tim burton movie. cuz of director of nightmare before xmas.

    i was wrong :(

  • I ABSOLUTELY AM IN LOVE WITH THIS MOVIE!

I just got it for my birthday!

  • These guys make me laugh. That Tim Burton/Henry Selick stuff is genius.

  • It's true too, official reviews have gotten it wrong and it's just- urgh, but these guys hit it spot on. :D

  • Thank you for a good review guys. But don't say that stop-motion is a dying art form. This movie clearly states that it's not

  • what he meant as a "dying art form", is that nobodys doing it anymore, and u dont see it often. then he follows saying it was really great to see in the big screen.

  • No, Henry Selick.

  • even though tim burton wasn't involved as director he wrote the original story and designed the characters.

  • No, it was not. It was Henry Selik who directed the film. Everyone sees 'Nightmare Before Christmas' and assumes it was directed by Tim Burton. Tim Burton wrote the original poem, but Henry Selik took Nightmare and made it into a film.

The actual book Coraline was written by Neil Gaiman.

  • Loved it. What else can you really say. Neil Gaiman genuis, Henry Selick Genius. and how creepy is Treei Hatcher's voice as other mother? LOved it.

  • ok billy is a dumbass

  • How do you know it gives away the whole movie if you've never even seen it?

  • there is a lot more to it than that, trust me.

  • yeah i thought it was tim burton...but if it was it would have been a musical. anywho after I saw the movie in theaters this lady next to me leaned over to her husband and said "Since when are they making horror movies just for kids?...I guess its for the heroine generation" stupid lady that movie was awesome!

  • While most people were depressed to find that TIm Burton did not have his fingers in this movie, those who saw it far realized that Henry Selick did and amazing job taking the book and turning ti to film. The 3D was tremendous and he definatley put it up with the movies, the corpse bride, and very possibley, next to the nightmare before christmas. The movie almost needs a required taste for it, but it hit the spot!

  • It was amazing wasn't it?

  • Stop motion is genius. Tool used it much for videos. Corpse bride and the Ngithmare before christmas is also genius film! Coraline tops it all! With stop motiion it comes alive in a much darker and gloomier in many ways! I hope this art form never dies! And YES I loved the movie! justplain awsome!!!

  • yeah but robot chicken realy screwed up the creditbility of stop motion potential.

  • I just watched this on DVD and I really liekd it ...At first I also thought it was a Burton. Bute there are small differences. Anyways It's a great movie and a great review you guys :)

Everyone should wtach this awesome BURTON movie XDD

  • The best movie that I've seen in a long long time

  • i thought it was a tim burton movie at first too...

  • this was a FANTASTIC movie!

    loved it!

  • I have to say my least favorite stop motion movie is tied the Corpse bride or the Ngithmare before christmas

This is 1st no matter what for my fave :3

  • Best movie I have ever seen!! DARK!

  • They're making fun of how Henry and Tim are almost the same in movies.

  • Coraline is the best film this year so far it was dark and creepy

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS FILm. WHEN IS THIS COMING OUT!!!

  • I saw it in 3D it was awesome

  • I LOVED THIS MOVIE. ( but it was also creppy.

  • I loved this movie! I plan to go see it again later this week.

  • loved this movie, watched it twice and my friend got scared watching it lol

  • THIS IS THE BEST $@#%ING MOVIE EVER!

  • GReat review of a great film. I've already seen it 3 times.

P.S. Tim Burton didn;t do this because he's working on a CGI film called "nine". It is supposed to be a kids film but from the trailer, i really don think so.

    P.S.S. EVERYONE GO SEE CORALINE!

  • haha yeah my girlfriend and I have seen it 5 times (3 of which were the 3-D version. If you haven't seen that yet, DO IT)!!!

And after you see it, go to the Coraline website/youtube and look at some of the videos documenting the production process. It's pretty ridiculous and makes you appreciate the movie even MORE

And yes, I am slightly ashamed that I saw a movie 5 times (regardless of its greatness) so I felt it necessary to include the fact that a girl accompanied me.

  • They really needed to put "from Henry Selick, the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas" or something like that. It would make it more clear.

Awesome movie; I especially loved the soundtrack and visuals. :3

  • Lol the comedy about tim burton is good. my best friend thought tim burton directed this movie, i had to totally pwn her and prove her wrong about it. i felt awesome.

anyhoo - CORALINE ROCKS BEST ANIMATED FILM OF 09 hands down.

  • I saw this movie three times.

Sure, i'm a nerd, but I loved it so much, and it's just one of those movies i don't get tired of!

  • love this movie 9.9 to10

  • that is actually kinda true, allot people think tim burton made this awesome movie that he should deserve no credit for! lol! great movie! i saw it in 2D tho because they dont show it in 3D where i live, i rate a 9.8 of 10!! 10 of 10 if i saw in 3D

  • Honestly, I think this movie was a bit of a let down. It was a visual treat, yes; but the story didn't have any really outstanding moments like Nightmare.

  • ...

Really? I thought it was a great storyline, even if not very much like the book. do you have a particular example?

  • Mainly the interaction with the main villainess. Not really anything surprising or anything I haven't seen before. Of course, I didn't read the book, so maybe I'm missing something...

  • Just saw this movie. IT WAS FANTASTIC. It was just the kind of creepy movie that I need to see every once in a while.

  • I love Henry Selick AND Tim Burton! :D

    Coraline was amazing.

  • Burton had nothing to do with this AND DIDN'T DIRECT NIGHTMARE. And it's really annoying when people jkeep insisting on it. Particularly when they're pretending to be fans. A real fan usually knows the facts. >_>

  • You do know they were joking right? Jeez, calm down

  • Uh, you didn't seem to be joking at all.

  • I didn't say anything. What the hell are you talking about? The other guy even said that Tim Burton has nothing to do with Coraline. What the fuck kind of drug are you smoking?

  • You said: I hate Tim Burton with an intense passion. His movies suck. Am I the only one that DOESN'T want to see a dark, morbid piece of shit Tim Burton movie? This movie was AMAZING because Tim Burton had nothing to do with a Tim Burton-esque movie.

Don't tell me you didn't say it 'cause the comment window I see has clearly your name, unless it's YouTube or my comp messing everything up.

  • To which I replied by saying it's absurd to call this a Burton-esque movie because it's certainly not; it's certainly not his style and way to do things. Unless creepy = burtonesque, or stop-mo = burtonesque, in whcih case I guess that even movies made before he was even born are also burton-esque, huh?

If you were talking about my other comment, in which I reiterated that it's not a Burton film, which was directed at another person. But you replied to my reply on your comment, so I doubt it.

  • what's with all of you people tagging the BUAH, BURTON DIDN'T DIRECT NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS!!!

not everyone thinks directors are who make the movie. tim burton WROTE the nightmare before christmas, thus having the greatest part in the film's make up. i'm not going to lie, when i first saw the trailer to coraline, tim burton popped in my head as a result of nightmare. that's only because he actually played a part in the film and characters. you're not cool because you can bash hot topic-ers

  • Tim Burton PRODUCED Nightmare Before Christmas - but he may have wrote it too.

  • Comment removed

  • what we're making fun of in this review is: the way the film studio marketed it to make people think it was directed by tim burton.

  • Eh, I don't think that was their main intent. Selick is a relative unknown in the business, and Nightmare is his best known work to mainstream audiences. Plus, Coraline is from a new film studio, so there's no big brand name for it to ride on. What else were they going to use to market it? I know it's typically fair to assume the worst in marketing, but in this case I think it's just the way the dice fell. Burton is inexorably linked to Nightmare, so sue 'em.

  • Doesn't anyone remember James and the Giant Peach? I remember James and the Giant Peach, and I knew that was Tim Burton. :c

And if you watch Corpse Bride when compared to a Henry Selick film, it's apparent that Burton is far sub-par in making animation look fascinating and captivating. Corpse Bride was stiff and slow, while Selick has cameras moving all over the place and lighting in ways you wouldn't dream.

  • you know, it really is a dark movie. i loved it.

  • lol at the beginning! "Tim Burton's Coraline!" It does look like a Tim Burton movie. I hate Tim Burton. The fact that he has nothing to do with this movie made this movie much more enjoyable for me. This movie was AMAZING! It wasn't as dark and creepy and morbid piece of shit like Tim Burton makes.

  • It does NOT look lioke a Burton movie, and it is definitely MUCH DARKER AND CREEPIER than Burton's movies, which actually tend to be realy sweet and just hyappen to have a spooky LOOK.

  • Omg i live in oregon too!

  • Oregon rules!!

  • its not 3d like my bloody Valentine i luv the 3d in that

  • Coraline looks awesome.

  • Tim Burton has absolutely no involvement with this movie.

  • no he made this moviei love tim burton

  • ...

  • If you loved him and were a real fan you'd know what he does and doesn't. And he did NOT do this movie, just like he did NOT direct Nightmare Before Christmas.

  • No, he had absolutely nothing to do with it :)

Watch the credits and see if you can find his name mentioned at all.

  • true dat! holla at me! of the his house" uglysumo shut up"

  • no he just produced it like in nightmare before christmas but he didnt do night mare before christmas either

  • *sighs*

  • JD!!! WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU?

  • love the intro music and love the review

  • Hahaha, great review, guys.

  • Love it.

Though review wasn't very tight... At least didn't feel that way.

  • Great!!

  • Gaaah, I want to see this movie.

  • Good stuff. DARN YOU TIM BURTON!!

  • I hate Tim Burton with an intense passion. His movies suck. Am I the only one that DOESN'T want to see a dark, morbid piece of shit Tim Burton movie? This movie was AMAZING because Tim Burton had nothing to do with a Tim Burton-esque movie.

  • It'd be nice if Burton made something that wasn't dark, plus dark don't mean quality.

  • Henry Selick, Burton had nothing to do with this. The review actually got at that. D:
