  • Wow, is this Blender's renderer? This is awesome.

  • Soo pretty

  • Car looks hella real man, good job

  • Is this better than Maya and 3ds max?

  • @Caio569 No.

  • I need to get CUDA running on my Ubuntu!! I want to render with GPU now that i seen this! Cycles is EPIC :o

  • Whoa wat

    That is fast as shit!

  • deveria regalarme el del carro xD

  • Which program did you use for recording?

  • Would Cycles take advantage of a multi gpu set up

    say 3 570s?

  • changed from blender render to cycles render... well, at least wanted to change... my pc is soooo slow, it took over 25 minutes to rendern an full hd image with 2 light planes, 1 big plane and the monkey head with only 225 samples... man... thats what you get for using a 3 year old pc made for office work... xD

i hope i can buy a new one made for grafic design and 3d rendering in the next few months... *dreaming on*

  • Ijm new to blender im learning it slowly but one thing i want to know if i just have a plane a camera and a cube how do i render it so it looks like monkey heads in video is it all materials or how exactly do you do it ?

  • holy fuck beautiful

  • Whats your system specs, runs cycles seriously quick compared to my POS old laptop. Thinking of building a new htpc/3d/gaming system

  • Thanks man, I was trying to figure out how to get my gpu rendering, I got it from 6 second render to 2 second render to .8 second render. Now I need to see if it's using SLI.

  • My version of blender (V2.6) doesen't have cycles! I have checked in Userpreferences/Addons

It's not there! How do i get it, do i download it? Is it because it's not updated? (last question) wich is the newest version WITH cycles? Thanks in advance :)

  • @BjarkeDuDe V 2.61 has cycles integrated ^^ just go to the blender org download section.

Renderer can be seen on the top menu (dp box) at the left of the Scene. By default it is blender internal, just change it to cycles.

  • nice video, what software did you use for desktop capture?

  • I can't belive in it. So real !!

  • open Cl is incomplete, and doesn't work for anyone as far as I know, if don't have a cuda gpu you are stuck with cpu only, but opencl support is probably less than a month away.

  • When I try to render with my openCL gpu, tha image is black!! Help!

  • @bouchandre i think you can put it on cuda mode if your having problems.

  • @roejames12 look at the title. the render is cycles.

  • Cycles is amazing, its a game changer for Blender. Love it.

  • Ok...my problem is...i want to install my computer new...(with windows 7 HP 64bit) ...and I have two drives ..the one is a 160GB IDE drive and the second a 320GB SATA||.. I think to install Linux on the 160GB..is this a good idea?..because I want to use blender on Linux..

    I have an

    -AMD Phenom x6 1055T

    -Nividia Geforce GT220

    -4GB DDr3 ram

I this a good idea?..and which version of Linux may I install?

    thx

    btw..nice video!

    :)

  • @freake95 Specs are fine, Ubuntu (which I would recommend) can run on pretty much nothing. Latest version is 11.10. Great community and support, if you screw up (which is almost inevitable), they will help you out.

If all you're using is Blender, 160 GBs probably isn't necessary, but since you have the entire HDD with that, might as well if you have the space.

  • OWNED.. THIS IS SOFTWARE REVOLUTION :) FREE SOFTWARE FOR EVER! this is a Production quality!

  • what build are you using. all the ones i get on graphicall have bug so that when you switch to gpu it just closes

  • WOW!!! Blender Cycles is so beautiful it is like an Orgasm in my eyes!!!! d:

Nice BMW model, good enough to go into a commercial!!

  • I want your computer xD great work

  • I have a nvidia quadro 600 1gb card on the way, would that be faster to render than a regular consumer card?

  • Cycles is the kind of software you only expect to see in CSI.

Working with it is really quite amazing.

  • Very nice, you got a ton of beautiful renders of your car.

  • @AlexanderLee1 Nice way of saying "enough of this car! Now model a different one already!" :)

  • @mpan3 haha, not intentionally. I'm just amazed that every lighting setup you tried looked really nice.

  • @mpan3

    Hi.

Would you please tell me about the software you are using for this demo? I mean how much memory, CPU, and graphic card?

I am intending to by a new PC.

Thank you, I would like to recieve any advice of my questions !

  • @carlosgoferreira It's blender, free software, you don't really need a good pc at all, there always a way to put your view port on fast editing, or arrange your computer tu get speed up.

  • @Chooboh

Thank you for the comment !

    I still need a better computer :)

  • @carlosgoferreira No problem, and about hardware, if you want to do many renders take a good CPU, else if you want to be in the 3D workspace or 3D game engine, you would like to have much RAM as you can, for the video card you don't need a crazy one, the better your CPU and your RAM is the most epic is your scene ^^

  • @Chooboh

Thank you for the information !

    :)

  • @mpan3 can you help me out on how to set blender to render with GPU, cause i cant make it render with it... can you PM me how or something...

  • Why didn't I hear about this when I chose to stick with 2.56?

  • does it runs on blender 2.49b?

  • @Luc1590 No.

  • Nice! But next time, make a realtime capture, because this "timelapse" gives a fake impression of speed of rendering!!

  • Is that caustics I see? 0:28

  • Very impressive ...

    Can't wait to test it.

Is it possible to switch off all lights ?

  • >>>>Cool! Where can I download it?

  • @axelwickm You can download the build from graphicall. the blend file is available from my blog.

  • brilliant!

  • Awesome, Mike!

I wonder how long it will take for technology to evolve so we can have this in real-time (30 - 60fps) :)

  • This is bananananas awesome!!!

So the render preview is built right into the 3dView like 'Textured/Solid/Wire...etc'?

So how is it with animations?

  • Could someone tell me how I could set this up on windows

  • @redbook5544332211 only available for linux for now

  • Hie MPAN , CAN YOU MAKE A REAL TIME CPTURED VIDEO TO SEE IT BETTER IN ACTION, THANKS YOU MAN!

  • better use ffmpeg sreengrab or RecordItNow KDE screen recorder it dont mess up with video speed like recordmydesctop or what software you use

  • I don't understand how you can do a progressive render demonstration by means of a timelapse...

  • I upgraded to Natty and grabbed a build from graphicall... Works perfectly.

Youtube has clearly some problem to handle Xvid (captured) videos... It seems that a conversion is required before upload.

  • looks epic!! (too bad my old machine can't support it yet >.<) Hey, I'm running Natty as well, and I get a strange text error every time I start up Blender 2.57. any ideas why/how to fix it? I don't see errors on yours.

  • @testingte There is also a CPU-only path for non-CUDA systems. It still feels faster then the Blender internal rendering engine.

  • This looks so friggin awesome

  • Arion is the same only it uses cpu with gpu, i think this only uses gpu, looks super fast! that might be due to ubuntu, lets see how fast it is with a million polys, would have been nice to see poly/speed, i bet ur gpu temps get high, in arion both my cards SLi get to 75 idol, i havent even thought about adding more polys !in fact i still use max , im like the only one still using 32 bit os with intel core 2 duo cpu, its a 64 bit cpu, i rather wait to see what os i go with, ubuntu looks nice.

  • @dfhohj Comparing an Intel Quadcore at 3.0Ghz vs GTX 570 running CUDA, i'd say the GPU is about 5 times faster. (no quantitative analysis yet, just gut feeling)

  • Does it have a Mac OS version?

  • You should erase the no speed up..

but the video worth for watching.. anyway.. We got what you want to show to us

  • I'm calling full blown BULLSHIT on the speedup part.

  • The good part is, even when it's speed up, it's better as blender internal. It doesn't do the full rendering at once but does the render with iterations, so whe don't have to wait till the full render is done to check the result

  • No, its more like Viewport 2.0 in Maya, where its all rendered in realtime... that's what he's saying. Not that the video is actually going at real life speed, but that instead of changing your scene... pressing F12.... changing your scene... pressing F12... etc... that all your changes are automatically updated in the render viewport or in REALTIME. that was his point. of course its not a realtime video... no one moves a mouse THAT FAST!

  • i want this....its like.....indigo render...but free

  • I don't think you're really trying to be dishonest, but you really need to clarify the "there is no speed up" comment! What I believe you're trying to say is that the *rendering* was in real time and you recorded it live. You've obviously sped up the video though.

  • This looks Awesome! cant wait! i know alot about gpu rendering and now that blender has stepped into a new world of rendering im sure blender will top the 3dsoftware list:D

  • WITCHCRAFT!

  • Even if it's 5x sped up, it's still lightning fast. Besides you couldn't get this quality in blender internal if you left it rendering for a year ;)

  • Thanks Mike...

I'm still trying to build it on ubuntu 10.10. => make error ! m(_=_)m

  • How can I test this on windows? is there a build available to the public yet??

  • @defcon2XX8 build is available. Not compatible with windows... (yet) some people on #blender are attempting to build it.

  • @defcon2XX8 Not yet. That will take a while. Only builds awailable for public is Linux.

  • Seems like your frame rate got messed up which makes it loose some credibility conserning no speed up, looks awesome though!

  • @TheArtisten Yup, remind me not to upload something, and then go to sleep right after without checking it first.

  • "There is no speed up."

Curious, considering the video's a little over a minute long, yet your clock starts at 11:57 and ends at 12:07. Still quite impressive, though.

  • @tansunn The time lapses were probably from loading and setting up the different scenes.

  • @tansunn hmm, Strange, I captured it at 10fps, but it seems Youtube is not interpreting the framerate correctly in the mkv container correctly. So yeah... It's obvious it's a timelapse now, I can't move the mouse around THAT fast.

  • @tansunn read the video description for god's sake.

  • @elebowski You are aware that the video uploader is able to change the description after comments have been written, right? That note wasn't there when I wrote that.

  • @tansunn wtv man, merry xmas.

  • the gpu rendering is fast indeed but unfortunately I see time lapsing in your video.

  • will this eventually be released?

it looks awesome and crazy fast!

  • @invisible0tom Serious? No it will never be released, Brecht worked with the intention never to finish it and make users suffer from disappointed. Jokes. Of course it will. This is planned to become the new BI.

  • Amazing. U have skills!
