Takes a Christian to let a book influence their view of reality. Ever stop to think that the fact that you can let a book have such a profound effect on you is the reason you're a christian in the first place?
Why would you urge Christians not to read it? Is your faith that fragile and shaky that it can't withstand "dangerous ideas"? Twain was basically expressing the Vedic Hindu idea that all that exists is God, and he is dreaming the entire universe. If that view is wrong, and Christianity is true, then you have nothing to fear from other Christians reading about it.
You should read because you want to expand your thoughts. Graphic violence and sexual content are traits of the bible not the mysterious stranger. One would say that the mysterious stranger is a more morally upholding book than the bible. And if a book can make you question your faith than you don't have faith, Christians should be more open minded and not confuse fictional entertainment with fictional scripture.
IMO, you're looking at this too much like theology and not enough like philosophy.
The entire work is a statement of hypocrisy in organized religion and the futility and emptiness of human existence.
Also, and I think you brought the issue of lies in the video, the Mysterious Stranger is a powerful and intriguing character because he DOESN'T lie. He is an observer, looking in from outside our understanding. He says nothing but the truth even to his last speech, because he has no need of deceit.
I don't really care if what I do is bad or good, as long as humanity progresses faster! Maybe it's a thing like that with the angels? Oh, and I don't believe in Mark Twain... he was after all a man who believed a comet brought him down from the heavens! Which is says something about his faith in God!
what the hell are u saying? so , according to you, christians shouldn't read certain books? i am an atheist, but you don't seem to get the book... try reading it again, but without the christianity "hanging on your back".
@johncastle i am an atheist, and the book is by far my favorite book. but one could say that the end is without a doubt anti-christian, and argualy even anti-human.
Mark Twain uses his entire litterary brilliance to ridicule christianity and the very idea of a god.
as a earlyer protestant turned anti-theist i can attest to that :P
@johncastle Actually i'm very much struck by the parallel with the Flood account. Satan and YHWH aren't that different at all. Also, There are 3 versions of this story, which is why the claymation video could be made at all, as an amalgamation of two of the stories.
One of the earlier accounts of a flood event in the epic of Gilgamesh is that people did in fact become "too noisy" and were subsequently drowned.
Im almost done with the book and enjoying it. i find it very easy to read and hard to stop reading as well. I personally think that "satan" is not an angel, givin the fact from the book that angels do not know from right and wrong and therefore cannot do wrong. And i think also mentioned that angels cannot sin? or at least that he has not sinned. Anyways point is throughout the book "satan" does sin. He tells lies, causes death to life, and other sinful acts that i cant recall at the moment.
@keymaster555 the bible says that adam and eve walked around naked, but it was only when they ate the fruit from the three of life that they became aware of it. before that they were innocent and could not distinguish good from evil, like babies or (arguably) animals.

You don't recommend that people read it because you're a christian? How is this book any worse than the bible?

Typical, a Christian trying to dissuade people from reading a book that inspires open thought.

I remember when I first read the Mysterious stranger. I would agree it is very intriguing but also agree it requires a properly formated conscious.
I first saw it in the animated film you showed a clip of so read it online, the ending is impactful.
