I just got my first tank started and I chose barbs. I have a green, a tiger and 2 rosy barbs. They are all right at 1 inch. (very young). Will their colors come out like these guys? I hope so.
@dontbeapunk1 give it time. for tiger barbs, only the males get more colorful when they get older. as you can see, the males have more red in their tails and on their nose tips. for rosy barbs, the males become more red across most of their bodies when they get older. So if you start seeing red, you've got males.
i have two small barbs in a 1 gallon....they have alot of room but its funny seeing them fight one has a red tipped fin and the other is more of a faint orange....the red one always wins...i call him wes welker and the other 1 tom brady
I recently had similar to this...but they were face-to-face for about 5 minutes in a 'top-fish' fight! they bumped noses all over the tank and were smashing into anything...in the end the original 'alpha' fish retained his title...so i felt a bit sorry for the bruised one lol!
I have four TB, and a couple of days ago, they were doing something similar, but a lot more aggressive, someone tell me is that's a fight or I'm going to have more fish?
i was thinking about getting tiger barbs. they dont fight until death do they? and will all males or all females get along? i dont want them to breed. i dont know if they will in the tank or if they would only breed in a tank breeder.
tiger barbs are like people. some don't get along. I had slight success with these tiger barbs. there's one or two dominant ones that cause trouble and will harass the others into submission (injury and death). So i guess the key is to have a big tank and a lot of tiger barbs (15 or more) to spread out the aggression. Some people say to have at least 6, but trust me that's not enough to spread out aggression!
I know tiger barbs have to be in groups of about 7, but i was wondering if i could get like 3 tiger barbs 3 albinos and like 1 green tiger barb in a 12 gallon tank with weekly 25% water changes and ideal water conditions? Im not sure if i'd be overstocking or not but i doubt that they will get to be their maximum size anyways. Please help
that's fine man. all types of tiger barbs can get along. they only get to be around 2 inches so a 12 gal is ok for 7. make sure they got a lot of aeration, on top of the ideal conditions. they're tight fish!good luck.
thanks a lot. the fish i asked about are going to be the next fish i get. im new with the fish keeping hobby and i have 6 neons and 3 x ray tetras. one died i got it when it was an adult and unfortunatly i used them to cycle the tank. didnt realize theres other ways to do it. but they seem like they're happy. thanks for the help
Hey man, I don't know about tiger barbs but I do know by putting a bigger filter inside of a tank will keep it clean enough that you would not need water changes weekly. (20-30 gallon filters) or dependign on the space you have you could simply get a pair of filters.(undergravel and power filter combo) I would advise not to over do it like i tried. (55 gallon filter in a guppy tank( BAD IDEA))
1) eggs are not being deposited into plants or any shelter. 2) they're two male tiger barbs, which have red tails and noses. they're fighting for hierarchy within the gang. look them up if you don't believe me, YOU RETARDED NOOB. GET OFF ME
And wow, I just realized that you have all the fish in your tank that I want for mine! I just don't have a large enough tank yet...the rose line torpedo barb, and the red tail shark, and various color stains of the tiger...glorious.
thanks...good luck with your future fish. warning: the red tail shark is a territorial killer if you don't provide enough room (check out my videos of him), so i hope you can afford at least a 40 gallon for him to establish a territory of his own.
THESE FIGHTING TWO ARE MALES,WHICH HAVE RED TAILS AND RED NOSES,OK. THEY'RE FIGHTING FOR DOMINANCE,RANK. if you notice, they're locking their mouths together like cichlids when they battle
i got 12 years and counting of aquarium fish experience
ok follow my advice since i got 13 years so far in fishkeeping:get 8 tiger barbs for your 10 gal. i kno its crowded a bit but their aggression will spread out, you see.you wouldn't want injured barbs. trust me on this!
SOMEONE PLEASE REPLY!!!! HI I AM PLANNING ON GETTING 5 OR MAYBE SIX TIGER bArbs FOR MY TEN GALLON> WILL THEY BE FINE IN A TEN GALLON FOR THEY're LIFETIME AND WILL THEY BE hAPPY??? BY THE WAY I AM NOT PLAnnING ON PUTTING ANY OTHER FISH IN THE TANK JUST THE BARBS.
yea,it's somewhat overloading, but(based on my experience) if you only get 5, a dominant barb(usually a male with the red tail/nose) will terrorize any weaker fish, and you'll be left with ragged/torn fins. So, with more, the aggression is spread out. besides, they get to be only 2.5 inches. GOOD LUCK!!!

you probably just got your tiger barbs, huh? it takes some time for them to establish in your tank and later they'll color up as they get older. just be on top on their care and they'll show healthy colors
Can You Help Me ive Got 4 Tiger Barbs And They still small Like Yours And They aLl Out Of Colour They Are All Ligh Black And Light Green Can You TEll Me Why Plz
check your water conditions, make sure your tank got ph 7, temp. 75-79 deg. F, ammonia, nitrates down, etc. feed them quality food like frozen bloodworms. btw, only male tiger barbs are colorful with red marks on their noses and tails. GOOD LUCK!!!
I going to get some tiger barbs soon along with some bristlenose catfish and i will probally put some real plants like java fern in there as well. I think fish are pretty cool.
i was unexperienced before and had 1 fighting fish 1 goldfish and 1 tiger barb now the guy at the pet store say fighting fishes wont attack other fish now he got along fine with the goldfish but the tiger barb love nipping at bother fins then i think the fighting fish killed the tiger barb then the fighting fish grew sick and turned from a bright red to all white and died 2 year later my goldfish died who had to be at least 2.5 inches long
I've grown really attached to my tiger barbs. I started with four of them, back in the day, and one of them has turned mostly black and is almost as tiny as the day I bought him. He is healthy as any of the other fish, but my partner and I tend to call him "Fall Out Boy," just because of his emo behaviour. Nice tank setup.
I tend not to keep any less then 6 of a type of fish at a time. I have never had problems with tiger barbs picking on other fish. In fact I have tiger barbs and guppies in the same tank right now. I also had half a dozen rainbow sharks and they where so busy with each other that the also left the other fish in the tank alone.
Oh man, I can't tell you how many problems I've had with the Tiger Barbs! They are NASTY! I remember we bought 2 giant leopard catfish and the next morning, we found one mauled to death and the other COMPLETELY missing
i got 4 fish in a 10 gallon aquarium, I probably will add one more, but it will be a cleaner, the 4 are tiger barbs. it is a small aquarium, but i would like to add some real plants, any suggestions?
that's coo! If your getting a cleaner,a good one is the clown pleco which i have and it only grows to about 4 inches. it scrubs the algae real well...the plants i got are fake but i had experience with java fern which is easy to care for and doesn't need a lot of light!
thanks, maybe that is why one died... now i have 3 tiger barb in a 10 gallon tank. :( he was a runt anyway... didn't see Blue's response 4 months ago, heh, glad you replied yugito! haven't bought a cleaner yet, but tank stays pretty clean will try the clown pleco and java fern if i get a bigger tank. will use 10 gallon as test tank. lets see if i can keep these alive for a few more months :)
i had a red tail shark sometime ago..their best left alone foreal..i had this dumbass idea of addinf guppies and the shark killed em'..but yeah, tiger barbs are cool..their more active and less boring
10 but all the tiger barbs eventually got killed by my mean shark! i replaced them with faster more streamlined fish that can easily avoid his aggressive chasing
The only shark I see in this video was the Redtail shark... I just got a redtail shark in the tank with my 50gallon tank. 2 green tiger barb, 2 albino barb, 3 drawf rainbow, 6 different types of platie... so the redtail shark is that aggressive?
